Transient
(2024)

Excellent. Darkly Beautiful.
Very pleased we got to see this at it's premiere. My wife and I loved it and were very impressed. She got scared and gripped my hand tight! She said it's the scariest movie she's seen in a long time, and it was mind-blowing. I really enjoyed it, too. It was a thought-provoking and gripping story, looked and sounded great, had talented actors all around. It was darkly beautiful. The music was epic. No spoilers, but there were some things in story that may be open to interpretation (or I misunderstood), so it created some good discussion on the way home. Looking forward to watching it again and seeing what these filmmakers get involved in next.

Don't Breathe
(2016)

Nice Little Thriller.
Nice little thriller. For the first hour or so, at least.

I went in knowing very little about it with low expectations and was pleased. Very tense. Believable acting. Flawed, but not completely unsympathetic characters kept me engaged. Good cinematography. Editing wasn't distracting. Neither was the music. Nice running time, too; they didn't stretch the movie out to two hours and overstay it's welcome.

Third act had me cringing more from storytelling choices than from the story itself. (Particularly, *Spoiler?, the implication at one point that atheism necessarily leads to immorality. Ugh. My SJW blood pressure started pumping.)

Enjoyable, original flick, though.

It Follows
(2014)

I Absolutely Loved It.
Would definitely pay to see again on the big screen. If you're a horror fan, you must, must, must see this flick. Every thing about it I enjoyed- the natural look, trippy and somewhat retro synchronized score, casual pace, likable characters. It's fairly scary, too, and does not rely on JUMP-OUT-ATCHA scares, but has some creepy and exciting scenes. Just remember to suspend your disbelief and enjoy the fun vibe, reminiscent of classic horror like Halloween. As Joe Bob Briggs would say, there's not much story to get in the way of the plot. Please support original horror at the box office. You won't be disappointed.

Evil Dead
(2013)

Loved It- Even as a Rabid Fanboy of the Original
I absolutely loved the new Evil Dead! If you have any interest at all, see it.

It's not so much a retelling of the first movie (as far as the first had a "plot," ha ha). It's more of a sequel that takes place in the same cabin with the same evil forces. Other than that, the reboot holds it's own and has a story that actually makes good sense, e.g., there's a reason for the twenty-somethings to go to the cabin, and their reasons for sticking around are feasible.

The characters are likable. The music is excellent. The thrilling scares come-a-plenty. Gore-fans will be pleased with the rivers of blood. (It's hard to believe the MPAA approved this for an R.) Even the credits are beautiful.

Just realize this one doesn't have the same campy tone. There is a lot less dark humor, but, strangely, it doesn't really need it. The movie is thoroughly enjoyable.

Of course, if you haven't seen the original 'ultimate experience in grueling terror,' go with that!
