Sex Doll
(2016)

What a surprise.
A wonderful movie. I didnt expect anything but ended up enjoying one of the most beautiful love stories I´ve seen in months.

María (y los demás)
(2016)

Great opportunity missed
The movie almost looks like a good french movie, some scenes reminded me to Rohmer or Ozon, especially the beach scene to "Sous le sable". But – spoilers ahead- the movie doesn't have an end, and it's a real pity. The main character is so well constructed, so real and lovable that everyone can identify with... María has inner conflicts for everybody.

They had it all. Everything in the movie sounds real, emotionally subtle, funny, sad, and some times even dark, but it just lacks character development and a little plot to cause it. It's almost like a first act movie. A great realistic inciting incident, a father re-marrying, but it's treated as a plot point, and it's not.

What a pity, what a wonderful material. A great opportunity missed and an artist, Nely Reguera, i will follow from now on.

Broken Flowers
(2005)

thoughtful film
It is well done and very well acted but it's not a movie one specially enjoys while watching it. One really enjoys the movie while thinking about it. I think that the point is that it doesn't really matters who wrote him the letter. The thing is that the letter changes Don Johnston completely. I think that it is very important that Don doesn't even remember who was the woman who really wrote him the letter, but the trip makes him realize the empty life he has lived, the trip changes him completely, showing him the superficial bonds that he has been harvesting during his life. He really wants the letter to be true, he desperately wants that that guy to be his son, that there is some kind of fruit It's a great last days of a depressing don Juan, thinking at last from an existentialist point of view: What do I leave behind? Nothing but sex as an exercise. (I wouldn't mind some exercise with Sharon... but, of course, you don't became immortal because of this) Beautiful thought but good ideas doesn't always make great movies. Still, it's worth watching.

An American Crime
(2007)

Nothing to learn.
Everything in this movie is fine but the story itself.

It is just a description of real events that doesn't make us learn anything.

There is no character development or narrative intention at all.

To me the only interesting thing is the fear under which they all lived. If you want to recreate yourself in the behavior of some human conditions under the absurdity of madness go get it.

Her parents where stupid and the mother-Hitler was nuts.

It is just a sad experience. Very well done, but, from a narrative perspective, this movie is nothing.

Gratuite suffering.

Tres días
(2008)

Bad story well done
This is the kind a movie I can't bear, the whole script rests on a main character who artificially postpones action in order to complete an hour and a half movie. I have the same feeling than watching Straw Dogs. As other comment says: "your guarding a bunch of helpless children from a known psycho, and a very suspicious stranger shows up when you are out in the middle of no where, you take him away from the house and you shoot him and then you shoot him again". You know the guy should shoot the bad guy from the very beginning, and there is no reason no to do so, you know and he knows... but we have to complete a movie.

The main character is also incoherent with his purpose of protecting the kids, leaving them alone, and breaking the unity of the family group. The action is done against basic human rules of behavior.

The acting is OK, is the writing and the whole movie concept that doesn't work.

Yo soy la Juani
(2006)

Unconventional, strong, and emotive
I agree with some of the comments here: the narrative structure doesn't develop La Juani's character completely, there is not a character arch, Juani doesn't change that much, the movie ends too soon, the plot line is not great, there are no really big events on Juani's life,... but I think all this light plotting was done on purpose, to grasp Juanis reality better. In one's real life there are not that many events.

Anyway, the acting is amazing, and la Juani is alive, full of truth and emotion... the movie has impressed me a lot.

It's been a long time without finding myself moved by a movie. But with all it's mistakes La Juani has done it. You can tell how some people's life really is, for example, all those young Hispanic girls coming from Southamerica to leave in Spain working in houses taking care of kids. It could have been better in some aspects... but still its good.

Descent
(2007)

From humiliation to pride
The pace is slow, OK, and it seems that in between both rapes there is nothing that has anything to do with a storyline. Wrong. It does have a plot, but is subtle, one can say a psychological plot that not even the main character is conscious of. This is not a movie about revenge, it is about one woman trying desperate to recover her self dignity taken away by a rapist. The foot smoking scene gives us a lot of clues of this movie's theme. It's about humiliation and pride. She loses her self respect but finds the person who will help her to get it back. The question is if it is possible to recover one owns pride by humiliating the person who took it away. It is? The movie doesn't really answer.
