Star Trek: Nemesis
(2002)

A great movie that deserved to do better
I have no clue why this great film is being smashed but I will address the "complaits"

Buggy Scene - Ok its 5 MINUTES OF THE MOVIE! Are you telling me five bad minutes ruin the entire film? All the critics and fans comment on this scene but really, who cares? So what if the prime directive is streched? No offense but its pure geekness to whine about something as minor as a few aliens seeing a buggy and shuttle

Shinzon/Picard - Another complaint is that Shinzon is too whiny and too much emphasis is placed on the Picard/Shinzon conflict. OK its called NEMESIS! What should it be about except a philosophical/personal battle between two beings?

Data Singing - 2 minutes of comic relief people.Take a chill pill

Riker/Troi - Many feel this was tacked on.Well, Insurrection hinted at a reunion so there

The Reman viceroy running away during the fight - Most people found this to be pointless and had no impact on the plot. Here's how it breaks down: Ok what did Shinzon want? Picard! You think that the viceroy could have gotten through Worf? No! So he tried to sneak around. Think People think!!!!!

Becuase of stuff like this, Nemesis made 30 million in two weeks and probably wont make it to the century mark, not to mention kill the movie franchise. Its not the film's fault. It introduced new speciesa and concepts, did some unexcepted stunts(Enterprise's "tactics" against the Scimitar), swesome battles and a deep conflict we have not seen the likes of since Khan. No it is the critics and nitpicky fans who killed this movie and the movie franchise. Nice job

Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance
(2002)

Complete redemption for the franchise
When I first heard about this game, I was admittedly uninterested.Mortal Kombat's last attempt at 3-D fell short so why should MK:DA be any different? Overall MK just seemed dated and I doubted MK:DA would be any good. Was I ever wrong.Since I own an XBox, fighting games are hard to come by and as such I decided to rent MK:DA. For starters, this attempt at 3-d works quite well as it is a true 3-d fighter.Graphics are lush and beautiful. The game also has alot of replayability as a new feature, the Kyrpt has been incorperated.Much in the vain of Marvel Vs. Capcom 2's shop mode, you can buy hidden charecters, new outfits, artwork and even videos among other things with Kredits earned in the game.

As for the storyline, its probably the best and most gutiest yet.In the three minute intro to the game we find out that Quan Chi has escaped from the Netherealm and has discovered the infamous army of the dead Dragon King.Of course this does Quan Chi little good as all the soliders are dead, but what is dead can be revived. For this, Quan Chi forms an alliance with Shang Tsung("Deadly Alliance"), who's powers with soul transplantation can be used to resurrect the army. This new alliance first must elimate those who could pose a threat to their plans. The first is Shao Khan. They approach him, declaring a false alliegnece to him and then charge at him while he's sitting on his throne. The next scene a loud scream is heard and Khan's helmet falls, covbered with blood.Next the Alliance travels to Earth to eliminate Lou Kang.Kang takes on Tsung and gains the upper hand but is then hit from behind by Quan Chi.Tsung takes the oppertunity and snaps Lou Kang's next, killing him.He then absorbs his soul. The intro concludes with images of Tsung resurrecting the army and Raiden telling the remaining Earth fighters"We must stop this Deadly Alliance"

The cast is nice and varied with returning favorites(No Lou Kang obviously) and some new charecters. The old charecters have recieved some very nice resigns. As for the fighting, each fighter can switch to one of two different fighting styles or one weapon style. This adds great variety to the game.

I went and bought this game immediatly after returning the rental.I highly recommend this game, especially to long time MK fans. 5/5

Shin kidô senki Gundam W
(1995)

A disgrace to the name "Gundam"
I had watched alot of UC Gundam and was getting somewhat tired of it...I needed something new and fresh(not to say UC isn't, I just saw too much of it). Some of my friends told me how great Gundam Wing is so I thought I'd give it a try....

Aghh....this "series" is a complete and total rip off of the original gundam.Zechs? A total clone of Char Anazable(even die hard GW fans can't deny this, just look at them!!!) right down to his history(father was a political activist who was murdered, now he wears a mask and wants revenege). The plot itself is convoluted and again a ripoff of not just the orignal gundam, but all the gundam series up to Char's Counterattack.

Oh, and for those who think this is a comparsion and not a review, you couldn't be anymore wrong. The fact is gundam is a FRANCHISE! GW IS SUPPOSED TO BE COMPARED TO THE OTHER GUNDAM SERIES.DO YOU COMPARE THE PREQUELS OF STAR WARS TO THE SEQUELS? YES? THANK YOU!

Another thing, no warships? What's with that? Oh that talk about battlefield philosophy and human nature and pacifism? Its just trying to make the show more intelligent.Too bad it doesn't succeed. Most of this show consists of is the Gundam pilots destroying enemy cannon folder MS episode after episode. The characters are one dimenisional and flawed. Is Wufei all about honor and justice? Absolutly! That's why he goes around killing OZ soliders while they're sleeping in bed, because THAT'S the honorable thing to do. Heero? A machine. Relena? A pain Treize? He forgot the most important rule in war and fighting: there are no rules, just survival.Oh and he supposedly doesn't like long range weapons because they're "cowardly", yet he uses the dober gun in the series final battle.....

The final battle is a crock as well. It comes down to hundreds of OZ MS vs hundreds White Fang virgo MDs.Sounds good right? Lots of casualities that depict the horrors of war? Nope, virgos are unmanned MS.So all it comes down to is the same OZ cannon folder that get blown up ep after ep by Gundams now get blown up by unmanned drones. oh joy.

GW had potiential but it fell flat on its face. GW Endless Waltz is a different story, the characters actually have some depth and the story makes sense(although its a rip off of Gundam Z & ZZ).EW is what GW should have been

Kidô senshi Gandamu III: Meguriai sorahen
(1982)

All that is great about Gundam
Simply put, this is perhaps the best Gundam animation released in America yet. This is actually the last thrid of the TV series compressed into a film.70% of the animation was redone so it looks alot better than the first two films. Also the film changes some things from the show such as replacing the Guntank with another Guncannon, changing around the sequence of events(for the sake of drama) and cutting out some of the silly enemy mobile suits from the orginal such as the Braw Bro.Like the others the chartecterization is strong and the realism of war brutal. No Gundam fan should be without it *****/*****

Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Jion no zankou
(1992)

Excellent!
In UC 0083,three years after the One Year Year(Orignal Gundam) Zeon ace pilot Anavel Gato steals a prototype nuclear equiped Gundam from a secret Federation testing facility of the behalf of a Zeon remant force known as the Delaz Fleet.Test Piolt Kou Iraki tries to stop him in another prototpye gundam but fails.Kou and the Gundam are then assigned to the Federation Assault Carrier Albion which is despatched to retrive the gundam and stop the Delaz Fleet's plans. This series is very good in that like the orginal, captures the ambigoious, unglamorous attitude towards both sides of the conflict. In many ways this could be called "The Principility strike back" because it is extactly that. The mecha designs are lovingly done and animation too is top notch. The only flaw? The characters are incredibly weak.Other wise a great series ****1/2/*****

Ghosts of Mars
(2001)

Very entertaining
This film was very good...provided you don't take it too seriously. The acting is good in particular Ice Cube (who alone is worth the rental) and the fast paced. My only gripe is the flashbacks whcih are somewhat overdone **** out of *****
