A new breed of filmmakers who have veered into the profession from other vocations are drawing inspiration from their past calling. "I have worked at the stock market in 1990 and 1991, so I immediately related to this story and idea. From there, we started researching and working on it. Those times were so different," says Kookie Gulati.
Kookie Gulati's upcoming Abhishek Bachchan-starrer "The Big Bull" is an instance. The film draws its plot from the securities scam of 1992, and is broadly based on stockbroker Harshad Mehta's life and his involvement in financial crimes over a period of 10 years from 1980 to 1990. Gulati reveals how his stint working at the stock market in the past helped him.
Gulati had other references from his own life in the script. "It's basically the struggle of a guy who starts from the beginning and a lot of it actually happened with my father when he came to Mumbai from Ahmednagar.

Mumbai, March 21 (Ians) Hansal Mehta's web series "Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story" seems to have triggered off an interest in our film and web series makers in the subject of scams. As many as five projects are on the way, which talk of the biggest scams to have hit the headlines in India.
Hansal Mehta is, however, reluctant to slot films and series based on the subject as a specific genre. Talking to Ians, he says: "Don't put stories into boxes. All you have to do is tell a good story, whether it is about a scam or love. A story well told, well acted-out and directed in an all-round manner is what counts. A story done in the right way resonates with the audience. It doesn't have to be about a scam or a biopic."

Producer Ajay Devgn today released Abhishek Bachchan starrer The Big Bull trailer. No sooner that the trailer went public, the netizens started reacting and comparing it to Hansal Mehta’s web series Scam 1992.
However what caught the attention of the author is the way Abhishek’s name was mentioned. There is an additional ‘A’ between Abhishek & Bachchan to read as ‘Abhishek A. Bachchan’. It appears that Abhishek A. Bachchan is trying a numerological amendment to the name. Though this is a subject that numerologists would know better, there have been a few Bollywood names that instantly come to mind who have (probably) followed this and continue to do so.
A very recent observation being Mahesh Manjrekar, who now seems to be written as ‘Mahesh V Manjrekar’ (1962: The War In The Hills). My initial observation was with filmmaker ‘Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’ and ‘Vipul Amrutlal Shah’. In the beginning they used...

The Big Bull starring Abhishek Bachchan and Ileana DCruz is all set to release digitally on April 8. Actor Ajay Devgn, who is bankrolling the project posted a teaser of the upcoming crime drama while confirming the release date.
In the blink-and-you-miss glimpse in the teaser, Abhishek Bachchan's mannerisms take you back to his earlier successful Gujarati character in Guru. Then also he had played a sort of under dog Gujarati business man who goes on to become a textile magnet.
Also the producer Ajay Devgn's voice over makes it a much awaited film even though the subject was made into a popular web series Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story by Hansal Mehta last year.

The Government of India has announced that cinemas will be allowed to reopen across the country starting October 15, and fans are overjoyed. The decision has been hailed by the film fraternity, too, who are now waiting for all the state governments to give a green signal.
Theatres had been shut ever since lockdown was imposed in March, to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus. On Wednesday, the Union Home Ministry announced it was allowing cinemas, theatres and multiplexes to reopen with 50 per cent seating capacity from October 15.

"This is a great announcement but we still have to wait for all the states to open up. Many states like Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu are yet to open up. 'Sooryavanshi' and '83' have been ready for quite some time. 'Sooryavanshi' was originally slated for a Diwali release, but it's not practical.

At a time when the industry is mulling the impact of Ott platforms on traditional cinema halls, 'Sarkar 3' and 'Total Dhamaal' co-producer Anand Pandit believes that evolution is only for the better. Yes, exhibitors are facing a challenging time but to think that the audience will stop going to theatres is incomprehensible to me," he shares.

And as a result, more people will benefit - be it, content creators, content exhibitors, or the audience," Pandit told. Also because, at least for me, I try not to take my work home. Certain remnants stay on but not much," Abhishek told Ians when asked if he detaches himself from a project once it is out.
Asked how the characters he essayed helped him evolve as an actor, Abhishek said: "You learn from each character you portray.
