Not to be confused with the 1986 Gary Paulsen novel that was on your fifth-grade reading list, Adam Green's 2007 slasher "Hatchet" was intended to be an homage to the plentiful stalk-and-kill movies from the 1980s. The first "Hatchet" takes place deep in the swamps of Louisana where feckless city-dwellers get lost while taking a swamp tour. They trade stories of Victor Crowley, a local kid with facial differences who, years ago, was trapped in a burning house set ablaze by prankster teens. Crowley was accidentally killed by his father when he recklessly used a hatchet to free him from the fire. Victor's spirit is now said to haunt the swamp and murder interlopers. Of course, Victor will appear to start the predicted murders.

Look what’s come hopping down the bunny trail just in time for the holiday weekend, Easter Bloody Easter, the latest in the never-ending line of holiday horrors. We’ve already had our share of Easter-themed films from Faster Eater Bunny, Kill! Kill! and Easter Holocaust to Resurrection. But when it comes to low-budget horror, there’s no such thing as too many films on a subject, so what’s one more?
This one opens with a couple going at it in a church storeroom, “I want you to fuck me like some muffin top Jesus!”, being killed by a glowing-eyed rabbit that transforms into a glowing-eyed monster complete with Easter basket.
A week later Jeanie wakes up in her yard and tries to...

It seems like every year, either at Halloween or sometimes at the end of summer, a new seasonally themed anthology, or six, gets released upon the horror-viewing community. We’ve been subjected to some good, some great, and some not so great. Anthologies come and go, but a few remain favorites for good, and sometimes bad, reasons. Films like Tales of Halloween, 10/31, Creature Features, Southbound, and Creepshow have been successfully harnessing the anthology category for years, decades even, while films like the V/H/S sequels, All Hallows Eve, and Verotika have shown us that not all anthologies are created equal. Of course, everyone has a different opinion on what the best ones are,...

Nearly two years have gone by since we heard anything about Death Rider in the House of Vampires, the second feature directorial effort from musician Glenn Danzig (following the infamous 2019 horror anthology Verotika – watch it Here). At that time, the film was receiving a 200+ screen theatrical release in the United States… but after that theatrical run, the movie disappears. Now Screen Daily reports that Vmi Worldwide is presenting Death Rider in the House of Vampires to potential distributors at the Cannes Film Market – so if deals are secured there, more of us will have a chance to see the movie soon.
Scripted by Danzig, who also composed the score, Death Rider in the House of Vampires is a Spaghetti Western where every single character is a vampire. The story centers on the Death Rider, who travels to the desert Vampire Sanctuary ruled by Count Holliday. The price of admission… one untouched virgin.

The film industry is shocked, dismayed and angry following the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on Thursday. She was killed while filming “Rust” when one of the movie’s actors, Alec Baldwin, discharged a prop gun on set.
Director Joel Souza was also injured in the incident and required hospitalization. Frances Fisher, who stars in the movie alongside Baldwin, Jensen Ackles and Travis Fimmel, tweeted late Thursday night that Souza had been discharged.
No one has been arrested in the incident, and no charges have been filed. An investigation is ongoing.
In the meantime, there has been an outpouring of grief and anger on social media, from those who knew and worked with Hutchins as well as the industry at large. Director Adam Egypt Mortimer, who worked with Hutchins on 2020 film “Archenemy,” tweeted: “I’m so sad about losing Halyna. And so infuriated that this could happen on a set.

I’m not sure what’s more surprising, that I’m reviewing a movie called Death Rider in the House of Vampires or that, after Verotika, somebody put up money for Glenn Danzig to make another movie. But here we are.
As the film opens Death Rider is riding through a desert filled with warning signs and crucified bodies. He leads another horse, with a bound, topless woman on it. She is his entrance fee to Sanctuary, one female virgin. She looks like she probably couldn’t remember when she actually was a virgin but that’s besides the point.

Glenn Danzig is getting anxious for a return to “normal.” A year ago, the heavy-metal singer turned horror filmmaker was editing his new feature, a blood-soaked “vampire spaghetti Western” called Death Rider in the House of Vampires, when the Covid-19 pandemic forced the world into lockdown. Now that the film is complete, and quarantine protocols are loosening up, he’s hoping to get it into theaters within the next couple of months.
“We’ve already got a plan to go to theaters with it around the country,” he says one day in late March.

Glenn Danzig’s infatuation with B-grade horror movies defined his early work with the punk group Misfits, and now he’s making his own bloody splatsploitation flicks. His latest, Death Rider in the House of Vampires, sets a nosferatu story in the Old West, where a befanged Danny Trejo tussles with a dark figure in a black Stetson.

To say these are dark times is an understatement with a constant current of dread running through it. As I write this, countries are clamping down, flailing to stay ahead of an invisible boogeyman that could come for anyone, and as concern turns to fear, preventative measures are in place to slow the spread. Social distancing, quarantining, and cleaning like your mother-in-law is coming for a visit have become top priorities for people looking to stay alive while helping those that are most vulnerable. Since so many people are forced to be at home, they will naturally turn to creature comforts: activities that act as a security blanket when anxiety and depression become overwhelming. If you’re reading this, chances are you turn to horror.
Horror is certainly not a catch-all for most folks; there are many that will self-medicate to the sounds of Beethoven or Bad Religion, perhaps even both or somewhere in between.

"Destined for cult attraction." 1091 Media has released a trailer for an indie horror anthology feature titled Verotika, based on the filmmaker's own horror comic book series. It premiered at Cinepocalypse last year, and is out on VOD this month. The various stories and anthology segments in this focus on horror content that's often sexual and violent in nature, usually featuring scantily-clad female protagonists. How original. The film's cast features Alice Haig, Ashley Wisdom, Kayden Kross, Natalia Borowsky, Rachel Alig, Scotch Hopkins, and Sean Kanan. Not only does it look awful, but the trailer does the opposite of make me interested, just a mess in every way. Perhaps appealing to some? If you're strangely curious, take a peek. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Glenn Danzig's anthology film Verotika, direct from 1091 YouTube: Glenn Danzig's directorial debut, is a horror anthology that compiles stories from Danzig's line of comic books of the same name.
