This weekend sees the 2019 summer movie season come to a close with the second worst weekend of the year so far, in which the top twelve generated a combined $69.5 million. The summer performance currently ranks as the eighth largest summer of all-time, in which the domestic box office generated $4.22 billion, down ~4% compared to last year's summer total which actually saw the box office rise considerably compared to the dismal 2017 summer season.
Leading this weekend's charge for a second week in a row was Lionsgate and Millennium's Angel Has Fallen with an estimated $11.57 million. The film is expected to deliver $14.5 million for the four-day holiday, which would bring the domestic cume to $43.6 million by the end of day on Monday.
Universal's Good Boys landed in second, dipping -21% compared to last weekend, bringing in an estimated $9.19 million, pushing the film's domestic cume over $56 million. The film is expected to add...

As the summer movie season comes to a close, we're looking at what is likely to be the second worst weekend of the year so far. There are no major new wide releases, though there are a couple of moderate debuts in Don't Let Go and Bennett's War, yet both are likely to fall outside the top ten. That said, the landscape should be nicely cleared out for what should be a strong opening next week for Warner Bros. and New Line's It: Chapter Two as the fall movie season hopes to get off to a strong start. Expected to repeat atop the weekend box office is Lionsgate and Millennium's Angel has Fallen. The film's $21.3 million opening was less than $300k shy of the opening for London Has Fallen, but the film has managed to outperform London over the past three days since its debut. However, we can't really...

"Going wheel to wheel is not smart for someone in your condition." Forrest Films has debuted an official trailer for an indie injured war veteran meets racing sports drama titled Bennett's War, the latest from filmmaker Alex Ranarivelo. The film is about a young soldier in the Army Motorcycle Unit named Marshall Bennett, who is injured by an Ied while serving in combat. He returns home and makes a remarkable comeback from a broken back and leg to be a champion motorcross racer. Michael Roark stars as Bennett, with a cast including country star Trace Adkins, plus Ali Afshar, Allison Paige, Hunter Clowdus, Brando Eaton, Tony Panterra, Michael King, & Taylor Kalupa. This looks exactly as cheesy and kitschy and uber heroic as described, but maybe that's what works for this. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Alex Ranarivelo's Bennett's War, direct from YouTube: After surviving an Ied explosion in combat overseas,...
