Spain at the end of the 50s. Miguel (Raúl Arévalo) and Antonio (Juan Diego Botto) , both single and in their early 30s, go on a trip to Ibiza, lured by the European sexual myth and the illusion of freedom. Along the way , they have fun and fall in love with foreign girls . But on the island, nothing will be as they expected.
Holydays in the magic island of Ibiza where supposedly to take place a sympathetic and entertaining film about intimate romances and diversion . However , in Los Europeos (2020) find us a sad and tired drama with no interest enough , happening some incidents and misfortunes without the due attractiveness . While the irruption of a pregnancy modifies the tone of what until then was intended to be a generational comedy of nights and constant drunkenness , into a pseudodrama about "duties and obligations". The film avoids placing the protagonists in greater events than their own personal problems . The environment, society, the church, the civil guard do not influence the decisions nor do they transmit that necessary fear of punishment in the event of an abortion , at the time a terrible crime with strong penalty . The obvious budget limitations try to avoid the inevitable, that the environment that surrounds these characters bears little resemblance to the one photographed . Sour and little interesting script written by the considered to be one of the best writers of Spanish cinema , the deceased Rafael Azcona . Regularly directed by Víctor García León , son of a known and better filmmaker José Luis Garcia Sánchez . This "Los Europeos (2020)¨ achieved a number of awards and nominations such as : Nominee ASECAN Award Best Spanish Film , Cinema Writers Circle Awards, Spain 2021 ,Nominee CEC Award Best Actor : Raúl Arévalo ; Feroz Awards, ES 2021 Winner Feroz Award Best Actor in a Supporting Role : Juan Diego Botto , Nominee Feroz Award Best Actor in a Leading Role : Raúl Arévalo , Best Poster David de las Heras , Best Film: Comedy Enrique López Lavigne ; Goya Awards 2021 Nominee Goya Best Supporting Actor : Juan Diego Botto , Best Adapted Screenplay Bernardo Sánchez , Marta Castillo , Best Costume Design ; José María Forqué Awards 2021 Nominee Award Best Actor : Juan Diego Botto ; Málaga Spanish Film Festival 2020 Nominee Golden Biznaga Best Spanish Film Víctor García León ; Yago Awards 2021 Winner Impepinable Yago Juan Diego Botto .
It displays a colorful and evocative cinematography by Eva Díaz . As well as sensitive musical score by Selma Mutal , adding attractive songs . The motion picture was middlingly directed by Victor Garcia León , though it has some flaws and gaps . Vicente is a good writer and director who has made a few movies . His film debut was ¨Más pena que Gloria¨, a true portrait of adolescent impulses at the beginning of the century, following ¨Vete de mí¨, a very black dramatic family comedy that clung to a social reality that has been prolonged when some children unable to abandon the paternal house after 30 years. A segment of "Hay Motivo" and even ¨Selfie¨, a product that took advantage of the country's political situation to reflect, like a caricature, many of the paradigms of Spanish youth, and that deflated as its footage progressed, these flicks were capable of offering a critical view of the present and past more than Los Europeos (2020) . Victor Gárcia León also directing some TV series as "Hispania la leyenda", "Familia", " vota por Juan" and "Derecho a soñar" . Rating 4.5/10. Average dramedy.
