Will Forte (The Last Man On Earth) and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s Kaitlin Olson are set to star in Flipped, a new comedy series, from Groundlings alums Steve Mallory and Damon Jones, and Funny or Die, for Jeffrey Katzenberg and Meg Whitman’s short-form video platform Quibi. Desperate Housewives alumna Eva Longoria, Arturo Castro (Alternatino) and Andy Garcia (Mama Mia: Here We Go Again) also star in the series which begins production today.
Written by Mallory and Jones, Flipped centers around chronically underemployed couple Jann (Forte) and Cricket Melfi (Olson), self-proclaimed home renovation “experts” who are more than confident they are television’s next great home design celebrity duo. Flipped follows the clueless pair as their dreams of basic cable fame and glory are derailed when they get themselves kidnapped by members of a drug cartel, and are forced to renovate their sprawling homes.

“Lady and the Tramp” is Disney’s latest live-action reimagining, only a) this one is actually live-action, unlike certain remakes using fancy shmancy CGI animation, and b) the new film is headed for Disney+, not theaters. See for yourself in the first trailer below.
Per previous synopses, “Lady and the Tramp” is set to tell the story of an upper-middle-class American cocker spaniel named Lady (voiced by Tessa Thompson) who meets a street-smart, stray mongrel called the Tramp (Justin Theroux), and the two embark on many romantic adventures together — which will of course include the iconic spaghetti smooch scene from the original film.
With a script by Andrew Bujalski (“Support the Girls”), the new film could find fresh footing in the class disparities these two adorable puppers represent. Bujalski balanced similar inequality issues with a great deal of exuberant fun in his critically hailed 2018 film (starring Regina Hall), so perhaps...

Comedian Arturo Castro is tackling the issue of gun violence and mass shootings in America in one of the sketches on tonight’s episode of Comedy Central’s “Alternatino.” Castro said in an interview with TheWrap he wanted the sketch to come from “a place of kindness,” where we aren’t swayed into thinking about politics, but of our own safety.
“I’m not American, so I didn’t want to come to it by saying ‘ban this,” Castro, who is Guatemalan born, said. “It’s hard to understand the amount of mass shootings. I want to be on the side of the victims.”

Comedy Central's Alternatino With Arturo Castro will air a sketch highlighting the cultural specificity of American gun violence on Tuesday night's show, just days after a weekend that saw 31 deaths in mass shooting events.
The sketch, "Welcome to America," focuses on a Central American immigrant to the U.S. named Diego (played by Castro) as he attends a "cultural assimilation" class that touches on American mass shooting events. Initially under the belief that he is safe from gun violence in the U.S., Diego is quickly disillusioned by his teacher, who baffles him ...

David Spade’s “Lights Out,” Comedy Central’s latest attempt to fill its 11:30 p.m. time slot, averaged 270,000 total viewers in its premiere week.
Among adults 18-49, which is the key demo for advertisers on entertainment programming, “Lights Out” averaged a 0.17 rating from Monday-Thursday. Spade played slightly better among adults 25-54, averaging a 0.20 rating.
None of those are great numbers.

On Monday, Spade’s show drew 970,000 gross viewers. That tally includes the sum of its 11:30 p.m. series debut, which was simulcast across Comedy Central, Paramount Network and TV Land, plus one Comedy Central encore. Of that all-in count, which is not really a typical way to tabulate a show’s rating in the first place, 428,000 viewers were between the ages of 18 and 49.
It’s been downhill since there.

Comedy Central Pulls Tonight’s ‘Alternatino’ Episode With Mass-Shooting Sketch After Gilroy Killings
The Comedy Central sketch show “Alternatino” is pulling tonight’s originally scheduled episode, “The Gift,” which includes a sketch with a mass-shooting theme, TheWrap has learned exclusively. Instead, the Viacom network will air next week’s original episode in its place and plans to run “The Gift” next week. The decision was made two days after three people were killed in an active shooter situation in Northern California.
In the sketch in question, comedian and show creator Arturo Castro plays a Guatemalan immigrant who is taking a “Welcome to the United States” class when his teacher cautions them about gun violence, including mass shootings. Castro’s character is in disbelief that shootings are so prevalent and seemingly random in the United States.
When reached by TheWrap, Comedy Central had no comment on the programming decision.

“Alternatino” starts with a defining sketch in more ways than one. When a father hears his young son is going out with a female friend, the graying older gentleman tries to sit him down for “the talk.” Yet instead of imparting any knowledge onto the boy, the dad gets an overwhelming education of his own.
First off, the boy isn’t interested in girls, he’s interested in women. But he also knows he’s interested in women right now — he’s young, things change, gender is fluid. As the dad stutters and tries to regain his authority, his son presses on, talking about how sex is different for different people, trying to get his old man to define what kind of sex he’s talking about, and chastising him for describing penis-to-vagina sex as “normal.”
The gag is simple: The roles are reversed, and the person in-the-know isn’t...

In some circles, Arturo Castro is best known for his role as the colorfully comedic Jaime on Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer’s “Broad City,” while others recognize him most as the much more serious and dramatic David on Netflix’s “Narcos.” But the writer, producer and performer doesn’t want to be put in a box. That’s why he began doing online sketches on comedycentral.com a few years ago and has now taken such material further, for his own variety series, “Alternatino with Arturo Castro.”
“The show started as a love letter to my upbringing,” Castro tells Variety.
Castro was born and raised in Guatemala, but spent the most recent decade and a half of his life, and crux of his professional career, in New York City. With experiences from both places shaping him as a man and comedian, Castro acknowledges he has a unique point of view.

There’s something extremely cathartic about watching a Latinx comedian get his own platform to do as he pleases, ripping cliches in the entertainment industry and beyond with invigorating vehemence. With his new Comedy’s Central sketch show “Alternatino,” Arturo Castro has the rare opportunity to tell his own story and skewer the inevitably cringe-inducing perceptions of it, and he seizes it with palpable gusto.
Castro’s best known for his wildly different turns in “Broad City” (as Ilana Glazer’s sweet roommate) and “Narcos” (as an entitled son of a cartel boss), so it’s fitting that he continues to show his range in “Alternatino.” With the help of a prolific hair and makeup department, Castro transforms himself into several different characters per episode, ranging from well-meaning dads to sly sendups of Latinx stereotypes to singing sensation Pitbull (Mr. Worldwide!). Comedy Central's Corporate will close shop with its third season.
Get ready for one more soul-sucking shift at Hampton DeVille, as Comedy Central has renewed their critically praised scripted comedy series Corporate for a third and final season.
The half-hour series, which debuted in 2017 as the highest-rated basic-cable primetime comedy of the 2017-18 season among males 18-34, saw viewership decline in Season 2, but critical marks soar; Corporate Season 2 currently sits at 100 percent on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.
Created by Pat Bishop, Matt Ingebretson and Jake Weisman, the series stars Ingebretson and Weisman as junior executives-in-training at the soulless mega-corporation Hampton DeVille. The duo must navigate the office politics and needless bureaucracy put in place by egomaniacal CEO Christian DeVille (a hilariously unhinged Lance Reddick) and his top, sychophantic executives John and Kate (Adam Lustick and Anne Dudek). Ten years ago, Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer wrote themselves a web series about their close friendship and the glorious paradox of being dirtbag ladies in New York City. With Jacobson playing the game Mary Tyler Moore character to Glazer’s wilder Rhoda, “Broad City” was frank, incisive and, most of all, funny as hell. But it still took years for the idea of a TV version to catch on at a network that understood their vision and the apparently confusing concept that there could be more than one show about women on TV — or per broadcaster.
“We were forever compared to ‘Girls,’ which is understandable if you haven’t seen either show,” Jacobson deadpanned recently over breakfast in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, tucked in a booth alongside Glazer. “At Fox, it was like, ‘We already have “New Girl.”’ That was a real sentence!”
But the two knew they had something special.

Comedy Central’s latest development slate is diverse in more ways than one.
Not only has the cable network put together several new series with performers of color at the center, but the three shows picked up Tuesday by Comedy Central are all very different.
Ordered to series are the stand-up/musical show “The New Negroes,” the comedy game show “Taskmaster” and the scripted comedy “Corporate.” In development are shows from creators including Awkwafina, Neal Brennan, Arturo Castro, Franchesca Ramsey, Noël Wells and Flint Wainess, among others.
“The network when I got here was pretty traditionally targeted toward young white guys, both in terms of who the audience was and who was creating the shows for the audience,” said Comedy Central president Kent Alterman. “We started changing that a few years ago by expanding that into having funny women on the network, with Amy Schumer and Broad City and a lot more since.
