Before rewatching Mirrors (get it Here), I was a little confused as to why it’s either forgotten or, honestly, kind of hated on. It was one of those movies that I saw in theaters when it came out and then have clear memories of when it came to my Blockbuster for rent. It’s got a fun cast of reliables and was directed by one of the early 2000s freshest and goriest directors. The director has gone on to have a steady and varied career and his new movie starring Halle Berry called Never Let Go sounds as intriguing as ever. After watching Mirrors again, I still really enjoyed it, but I now understand why it has the reputation it has and why it’s perfect for a black sheep. Let’s take a look but maybe be wary of any mirrors that don’t look exactly right.

The Pocket Film of Superstitions opens with a title card that reads “The Following Moving Picture Presentation May Contain Scenes of Irreverence”, and irreverent is a very apt way to describe the latest film from writer/director Thomas Lee Rutter.
It’s shot with the visual stylings of an old silent movie complete with the blue tint they used to indicate a night scene and the occasional title card. But it isn’t a silent film, there are sound effects and occasional short exchanges of dialogue. But most of the information is relayed to the viewer via narration by Shend, which is probably the best choice for a film like this.

Gary Kent, an actor, director and, most notably, stuntman whose career is thought to have been an inspiration for Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, died Thursday at an assisted care facility in Austin, Texas. He was 89.
Born on June 7, 1933, in Walla Walla, Washington, Kent’s early film credits include 1959’s Battle Flame, and roles in other low-budget films of the 1960s including The Black Klansman (1966) and biker film The Savage Seven (1968). In 1969, he served as a stunt double for Bruce Dern in the now-cult-classic Richard Rush-directed exploitation film Psych-Out.
Among his other credits were such drive-in movie favorites as Peter Bogdanovich’s first film Targets (1968), featuring Boris Karloff, 1970’s Hell’s Bloody Devils and, the following year, The Incredible 2-Headed Transplant and Angels’ Wild Women.

In this edition of The Silver Lining, we’ll be covering Grégory Levasseur’s Egyptology-based Found Footage flick, The Pyramid.
Acclaimed director Alexandre Aja first rose to notoriety as a member of the early 2000s French Extremity movement after shocking audiences with the intensely gory Haute Tension (A.K.A. High Tension/Switchblade Romance). While this peculiar little slasher flick eventually led Aja to an international career as a celebrated director and producer, part of his success can be attributed to his friend and frequent collaborator, Grégory Levasseur.
From Haute Tension to The Hills Have Eyes and even Piranha 3D, Aja has always been backed up by Levasseur, who co-wrote and produced most of his projects. That’s why it stands to reason that the director would eventually pull a few strings and scramble together a budget for Levasseur to direct his first feature film, which would come in the...

John Oliver isn’t too pleased about the new host of Jeopardy! either.
The HBO Max host noted his disgruntlement on today’s episode of Last Week Tonight while discussing school mask mandates.
Early in the episode, Oliver played a clip of an angry mob accosting a school board member over mask mandates with a man screaming, “We know who you are.”
“It is genuinely hard to imagine a five word phrase less welcome than ‘we know who you are’ aside from obviously ‘new Jeopardy host Mike Richards,'” Oliver quipped.
The news of Mike Richards and actor Mayim Bialik succeeding the late Alex Trebek has been the focus of much internet scrutiny after fan favorite LeVar Burton was ultimately passed for the hosting gig.

News that Mike Richards is in advanced negotiations to become permanent host of “Jeopardy!” made headlines coast to coast on Wednesday. But in what has become a familiar pattern for public figures, older incidents of questionable actions from his past quickly became a hot topic of conversation on social media.

The search for new permanent host of Jeopardy! has come to an end. The show’s executive producer Mike Richards is finalizing a deal to succeed the late Alex Trebek as emcee of the venerable syndicated game show, I hear. Noone would comment but I hear Richards, who emerged as a frontrunner early in the search, was quietly appointed as the host a couple of weeks ago with the deal now in final negotiations. Sony Pictures Television is expected to make an official announcement in the next few days.
Richards, who has hosting experience, was well received by fans when he served as a guest host earlier this year along with a slew of celebrities who filled in for the beloved Trebek. The show’s longtime host lost his battle with cancer in November.
“He was everything you could hope for and more,” Richards said of Trebek on the show.

Since long-time “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek passed away last November, many have wondered who would be taking the reins as permanent host. Several different guests have assumed hosting duties over the last several months, including controversial choices like Dr. Sanjay Gupta and Ken Jennings, whose past ableist tweets resurfaced when his temporary gig was announced.
In news exclusive to Variety, the show’s executive producer Mike Richards is considered the frontrunner to take over the job permanently. Richards joined the show last year as EP and, per the report, impressed producing studio, Sony Pictures, with his knowledge of the game and on-air manner.
Prior to working at “Jeopardy!” Richards hosted the game shows “Divided” and “The Pyramid” for Sony’s Gsn channel. He also previously hosted “High School Reunion” and “Beauty and the Geek” and sold the revival of “Let’s Make a Deal” to CBS. He’s produced over 4,000 hours...

“Jeopardy!” executive producer Mike Richards is in advanced negotiations with Sony Pictures Television to become permanent host of the venerable quiz show, taking the reins of the syndicated powerhouse that was fronted by Alex Trebek for 36 years.
After Trebek’s death at the age of 80 in November 2020, Sony initiated a series of guest hosts, some of whom were hoping to land the permanent slot. Richards, who joined the show just last year as executive producer, impressed Sony Pictures brass with his command of the fast-paced game and easy on-air manner.
A Sony Pictures spokesman said discussions were ongoing with several potential candidates. He would not comment specifically on Richards’ status. A source close to the situation cautioned that there’s no certainty that the sides will close a deal and that other candidates remain in the mix, although Richards is clearly the front-runner.

Jeopardy! executive producer Mike Richards, filling in on hosting duties, paid tribute to the late Alex Trebek last night, saying that “working with Alex was even better than you could have imagined.”
“He was everything you could hope for and more,” said Richards, currently on Day 3 of a two-week temporary hosting gig. “He was an idol of mine, and I will work every day to try to live up to the example he set.”
Watch the tribute below.
Though Richards is certainly the least recognizable of the guest hosts lined up – he follows Ken Jennings, and will be succeeded by CNN’s Anderson Cooper, Today’s Savannah Guthrie and Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers – early viewer response on Twitter has been overwhelmingly favorable.
“10 min in & I feel Mike Richards has not only hosted a game show as a previous career but was also a stand in for Jon Hamm...

As the pandemic lockdown changes the landscape of film and TV, many are shifting the way they tell stories — and a lot of that is shooting remotely. Filmmaker Nick Simon has done exactly that with the film Untitled Horror Movie which recently completed principal photography.
Directed by Simon, who co-wrote it with Luke Baines, the comedy-horror was shot entirely during lockdown with the entire writing, pre-production, and filming process taking place remotely. Set on computer screens and found footage style content, the movie follows six actors who decide to shoot their own horror movie as their hit TV show is on the brink of cancellation. In their search for a plot, they unintentionally summon a spirit with an affinity for violence, who starts picking them off one by one.
Baines also stars alongside Claire Holt, Darren Barnet, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Katherine McNamara and Timothy Granaderos (13 Reasons Why). The cast also features Kal Penn, Kevin Daniels, and Sohm Kapila.
“I’ve always believed that film should be a collaborative art form, and I don’t think there’s a truer example than with this picture,” said Simon, who was mentored by Wes Craven. “The actors did everything from lighting themselves — guided by our incredible Dp, Kevin Duggin — to recording their own sound and doing their own hair and makeup. As crazy as that could have been, it was easily one of the most enjoyable experiences in my professional life. It was one of those once in a lifetime moments when everything aligns at the exact right time.”
The film comes from Sundance and SXSW Grand Jury Award-winning producer Bronwyn Cornelius and Marina Stabile. Randy Sinquefield’s Spectrum Studios financed the picture. CAA Media Finance represents the film’s worldwide distribution rights.

Written by Daniel Meersand and Nick Simon, The Pyramid is directed by Gregory Levasseur (The Hills Have Eyes, Piranha 3D). It makes use of the found footage storytelling device to depict the adventures of father and daughter archaeologists Miles Holden (Denis O’Hare) and Nora Holden (Ashley Hinshaw) as they explore a mysterious three-sided Giza pyramid (most of the pyramids of Giza have four sides) with their team during the Egyptian protests of 2013. At first, they rely on camera-equipped, remote-controlled robot “Shorty” to show them what’s what inside the pyramid.

Just as a fair warning, I’m currently writing this review under the influence of alcohol, because The Pyramid didn’t think a press screening was necessary, or provide any Thursday night/midnight public releases before its December 5th release date. While I desperately try not to let such aggravating situational roadblocks cloud my judgement, what’s a critic supposed to think when a December horror movie refuses early screenings, Thursday night conveniences, and even midnight horror crowds?!

(It isn.t playing where I live, which may or may not be inside of a haunted pyramid.) There.s also Erik Skjoldbjærg.s Norwegian thriller Pioneer, but that.s got an even smaller release window. On the VOD front, December 5th saw the release of the thriller Poker Night, which stars Ron Perlman, Titus Welliver, Giancarlo Esposito and Ron Eldard. (Go watch The Babadook if you haven.t yet.) In smaller news, Uwe Boll has taken to Indiegogo to try and fund the presumably violent sequel Rampage 3: No Mercy. (Why?) The highly anticipated sci-fi thriller Z for Zachariah, starring Chiwetel Ejiofor and...
