As Netflix is want to do, in the aftermath of the success of the "Black Mirror" episode "Bandersnatch", they are again gamifying one of their other titles for a "choose your own adventure" style edition. I've reviewed each individual season of "Camp Cretaceous", but it wasn't until now that I discovered that this existed. It's an interesting mix of styles that rewards multiple play throughs.
After a storm leaves Darius (Paul-Mikel Williams) in the nest of a Tarbosaurus, he discovers a video camera that shows Hal Brimford (Bill Nye) trying to get a message to Owen Grady. The video also intimates that Brimford, a ride designer, may have stockpiled supplies at the Hidden Adventure amusement aspect of the park. A clue to the location of these supplies is lost in the Raptor enclosure, after which the gang must cross the park and locate the food cache. The Tarbosaurus though, is tracking Darius.
As far as the basics of the episode, this looks pretty good. Visually it's impressive, with the dinosaurs having the slight stop motion quality and good movement. The humans are slightly more artificial than normal, the story has some first-person aspects as you go into Darius' head to make decisions. A few of those shots are a little unusual. The vocal performances are nice though.
They've done a good job with the stories. I played through twice, making different big choices each time, and there is a nice mix of minor changes, major changes and deaths that can result in your decisions. There are two whole sections of the plot, one near the beginning and another near the end that are available only through making major choices. Though it does bring both stories together for a set piece in the middle. Both of the late choices though have major references to the first "Jurassic Park" movie in them, which is a nice touch.
I'll never go back for a third time, even though there must be a couple of options that I didn't investigate, but it was a fun time whilst it lasted.
