With every Grand Theft Auto game, there’s a before and an after. The series is a cultural force, even if you limit its catalog to the three classic titles found in Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition. This set redefined what everyone thought was possible with video games, and when the third entry, San Andreas, dropped in 2004, its impact was no different from the titles that came before it. Where GTA III and GTA: Vice City are stories set in single cities, GTA: San Andreas sprawls across an entire state, spinning a yarn just as expansive. There’s an awful lot to see and do in GTA: San Andreas. Surprises are at every turn, and we’ve got a few tips to make your life of crime a little easier. (Check out 10 other all-time-great games on Netflix.)

The GTA series is regarded as one of the most popular gaming franchises of all time. This series has given us some legendary titles like Grand Theft Auto 5, San Andreas, Vice City, and many more. Along with the fame, the franchise is often criticized for some of its controversial aspects as well.

Be it Grand Theft Auto 3 being banned in Australia or the controversial dialogues in Vice City, citing hate crimes – these series had to face a lot of backlash from the people. But things went out of hand when some in-game files of an unreleased minigame in San Andreas were found by modders later on.

When the matter’s about a video game like GTA 6, it is natural to see the hype surrounding it. That is both good and bad. If a game meets those expectations, then it’s definitely worth it. But what if it fails? That will be a pure heartbreaker.
There is no release date announced officially for the Rockstar’s game but fans are already celebrating being ‘one year’ away from the launch. They are full of hope on this one. But setting the bar too may just not be feasible if things go sideways.
Let’s Take a Look Back at What Happens With Overhyping Something
GTA 6 is perhaps the most hyped-up video game in the market’s history. That’s understandable when a beloved series gets a new product having a range of qualities. The graphics, the largest map in the series-ever, new mechanics, and more.

GTA V may be a decade and a year old but it is holding up well against other open-world games in 2024. The gaming community knows the entire map of the reimagined state of San Andreas like the back of their heads as they fall in love with the beautiful scenery and relate to the miserable characters.

“In space, no one can hear you scream… your girlfriend’s name,” would be a good tagline for Slingshot, a psychological sci-fi thriller about an astronaut suffering major romantic withdrawal during a voyage to Saturn’s largest moon, Titan.
Starring Casey Affleck and directed by Mikael Håfström, the film plays at times as both an intimate, low-key riff on Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, and a variation of James Gray’s Ad Astra. But it’s ultimately neither of those movies, opting for lots of narrative red herrings and plot twists instead of celestial wonders or emotional climaxes. The result feels more like a B-grade thriller that’s been elevated by a good cast and a script with some clever moves — which should help Slingshot land smoothly on streamers after a theatrical release.

Arthur Morgan may have taken the crown from John Marston with the release of Red Dead Redemption 2, but the original still delivered an impactful story. While games may have traditionally been about ‘victory’, those tropes are now subverted for a more Greek tragedy approach.
Despite being noble and kind, characters might not meet the ending the audience feels they deserve. However, it’s their trials and tribulations that make their end much more impactful. Here are five characters we feel deserved better but have become iconic because of how they went out.

There are always those characters, like Revolver Ocelot, who give off a bad vibe from the moment they show up in certain video games. Whether it’s due to their shady actions, evil plans, or just their vibe, these NPCs often turn out to be much worse than they initially seem.
A lot of them start off as either allies or neutral characters, and then stab you in the back. Sometimes you just wish you had taken them out as soon as they appeared instead of letting them cause problems later on. There are specifically five notorious NPCs from popular games which, in hindsight, should have been dealt with at first sight.
Major spoilers ahead for Metal Gear Solid, Red Dead Redemption, Modern Warfare 2, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

Sunday Update: Deadpool & Wolverine continues to govern the global box office, now with an estimated $824.1M through Sunday. The breakdown here is $395.6M domestic and $428.5M at the international box office. On a worldwide basis, D&w has already topped the cumes of Deadpool ($783M) and Deadpool 2 ($786M).
It is the No. 3 R-rated movie of all time, and the 2nd highest global studio release of 2024 to date. Falling in behind Inside Out 2, this has helped push The Walt Disney Studios to become the first studio to cross $3B globally this year (the estimated cume through Sunday is $3.109B).
D&W saw a great 41% dip in the sophomore session overseas (with strong holds in several areas) and remains the No. 1 non-local movie in all international markets.

GTA 6 is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated games of this decade, and it is currently scheduled to be released in the latter half of 2025, which has given Rockstar a long time to work on the game.
However, deja vu is appearing in front of Rockstar, as something similar happened during the production of GTA San Andreas. One of the developers from the olden games recalls the amount of time they had—3 years—to finish San Andreas, and they decided to go crazy with the addition of extra features in the game.

The GTA series is one of the most popular video game franchises of all time. Known for its violence and adult themes, many probably don’t know how extensive the lore of the games is.
GTA Online has kept the player base entertained for over a decade. Started out on the PS3 and now on the current generation, the stories of rival gangs continue in the online service.

Expectations are like a double-edged sword for developers. On one hand, they can give studios like Rockstar Games the hit of dopamine it needs to hone GTA 6’s depth and polish.
On the other hand, studios like Ubisoft use this to market mediocre games like Skull and Bones and call it a “Aaaa” title. Given the resources and hype that’s being put into developing GTA 6, maybe it will be an actual game-changer for real?

When Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto V hit shelves in 2013, it redefined what players could expect from an open-world game with its innovative three-protagonist structure and explosive multiple endings. Players were forced to decide the fates of Michael, Trevor, and Franklin in a series of heart-pounding missions – a narrative twist that set a new benchmark for player choice in open-world games.
It’s this “multiple impactful endings” formula that could give Rockstar an edge in GTA 6, especially when combined with the game’s rumored lead female protagonist, Lucia, and her (potentially) complex relationship with her partner-in-crime, Jason.
The recent trailer hints at a deep, intimate bond between these two criminals, one that could not only be tested but shaped by the player’s actions throughout the game.

Editor’s note: This story was originally published on June 20, 2017, in celebration of the 42nd anniversary of the release of “Jaws.” We are re-publishing it today with some light updates to celebrate the film’s 49th anniversary.
The original trailer for Steven Spielberg’s “Jaws” hardly hinted at the industry-changing blockbuster it was ultimately selling, instead playing up some serious melodrama (“it is as if God created the Devil and gave him jaws” is easily the best line of a highly quotable bit of marketing) and leaning into the best-selling bonafides of the book it was based on. The trailer boasted some of the film’s iconic shots and lines (you better believe “you’re gonna need a bigger boat” is in there), but mainly seemed interested in imparting the high stakes drama and horror of the story to audiences seeking a scary summer distraction.

For many of us who have grown up with the Grand Theft Auto series, it’s hard to imagine a world without Rockstar’s groundbreaking open-world adventures, unforgettable characters, and boundary-pushing gameplay. From the top-down chaos of the original GTA to the cinematic brilliance of GTA V, each entry has left an indelible mark on the industry and in our hearts.

Few developers in the video game industry have courted controversy as consistently as Rockstar Games. The company behind the immensely popular Grand Theft Auto series has never shied away from pushing a few boundaries and ruffling a few feathers.
But in 2004, one particular incident involving their hit game GTA: San Andreas would escalate into a full-blown political firestorm, attracting the ire of lawmakers and forever changing the scene of video game regulation.
The scandal erupted when Dutch modder Patrick Wildenborg uncovered a hidden mini-game buried deep within the code of GTA: San Andreas. This mini-game, which would later become infamous under the name “Hot Coffee,” allowed players to engage in explicit s*xual activities with the protagonist, Carl “Cj” Johnson’s girlfriends. The “Hot Coffee” scene, named after the euphemism used in the game to invite Cj inside their girlfriend’s home, featured fully animated s*xual intercourse, including oral s*x.

Hopefully, Fable won’t release anywhere near GTA 6.
Rockstar Games has been keeping details about this highly-anticipated title pretty close to their chest. Gamers are hyped and rumors are flying all over the place about all the crazy gaming systems and things that will be featured in the game. Not many games grabbed attention in the Xbox Showcase as much as the upcoming Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater did. Originally released in 2004, the game remains one of the most iconic titles of the franchise, and Konami is trying to recapture the magic with a remake. While fans are excited about the game, one feature hinted at on Konami’s website’s about a legacy-style filter that’s left many scratching their heads.
The idea that a remake can be played with a legacy-style filter sounds appealing but could be a cash grab as the original and remake might look identical. Fans are also questioning why the filter is necessary to include in a modern remake.
What Does Legacy Filter Bring to Metal Gear Solid Delta? Metal Gear Solid Delta could be launched this year.
The remake is built on Unreal Engine 5, upgrading the visuals while retaining the original landscape.

“Any time your film is called The Smashing Machine, you’re going to kind of get smashed up.” That’s how Dwayne Johnson put it, as he revealed he suffered an injury on his right elbow while filming his new wrestling drama for A24.
“I got banged up pretty good today in our scenes. There might be some soft tissue fluid in there, we’ll see,” Johnson said Tuesday in a video posted to Instagram. “But the pain feels pretty good. All good.”
He said he will need to have fluid drained before having an Mri to assess the damage.
Johnson stars in The Smashing Machine as Mark Kerr, a two-time UFC Heavyweight Tournament Champion. Uncut Gems co-director Benny Safdie wrote and directs the project, which is being positioned as a prestige play for Johnson, who became one of the world’s top movie stars in big-budget fare such as the Fast & Furious movies,...

Arguably the most hyped gaming release is now knocking on the door. Fans’ anticipation regarding GTA 6 right now doesn’t know any boundaries. Rockstar Games has confirmed that this highly anticipated open-world title is coming in the fall of 2025. However, no solid release date has been confirmed yet.
Along with the game come new expectations and demands. There are many new and old features fans want in GTA 6. For example, the six-star wanted level, dual weapon wielding, or the ability to hit the gym after eating anything like in San Andreas. But there is one unique aspect that a fan has pointed out that should be in the game.

As gamers eagerly wait for the arrival of GTA 6, we can’t help but wonder how mini-games and businesses would work in the State of Leonida. The fictional place in Grand Theft Auto’s next open-world adventure is going to feature some iconic locations based on real-life Florida.
Despite being a parody of the real world, titles from Rockstar Games often play too close to home when it comes to the underworld. This time, the fans would like to see businesses inspired by real-life events and this is how GTA 6 can make it possible.
Money Laundering Could Be a Thing in GTA 6 What would it take to be a kingpin in GTA 6? Just some simple Money Laundering schemes.
When games like Yakuza and Mafia showcase the underworld, a lot of it may be hidden under a layer of sugarcoated businesses and stories that may help civilians believe that everything is okay.

A long-awaited video game adaptation now has new life. Universal Pictures has officially boarded the "Just Cause" movie, and the studio has some impressive talent behind the camera to make the project a reality. That starts with director Ángel Manuel Soto, best known for directing the DC superhero movie "Blue Beetle." The project has also added "The Fall Guy" director David Leitch and his producing partner (and wife) Kelly McCormick on board as producers with their company, 87North.
Universal has a longstanding relationship with Leitch, as the filmmaker made "Hobbs & Shaw" for the studio before stepping behind the camera for "The Fall Guy." He also very nearly directed the new "Jurassic World" film before Gareth Edwards took over. 87North has a first-look deal with the studio, so this partnership makes sense. Dmitri M. Last year, Jennifer Lopez starred in so-so Netflix actioner "The Mother," in which she sniped her way through wave after wave of bad guys. Unfortunately the film marked yet another moment whereby the streaming age subsumed a former megastar into its nebulous cloud of generic "content." If "The Mother" isn't enough to convince you of such developments, just take a look at "Atlas," the latest Lopez-starring Netflix original film.
It should be said that the trailer for "Atlas" did look promising, but critics certainly aren't too impressed with this sci-fi actioner, which comes from director Brad Peyton ("San Andreas") and also stars Simu Liu, Sterling K. Brown, and Mark Strong. Lopez plays an AI-wary data analyst who quickly finds herself in a situation where she's forced to rely on a synthetic consciousness to survive a mission gone awry. Nothing comes easy for “The Fall Guy” (Universal). Despite a home release 18 days after opening (typical for Universal) and outgrossing “Civil War” by $4 million despite playing for four weeks less, Alex Garland’s film shares top honors with the stuntman actioner this week on the VOD charts.
Both films, available for rental for 48 hours at $19.99, placed #1 on one chart apiece. “Civil War” leads at iTunes (ranking by transactions), while “Fall Guy” does at Fandango (calculated by revenue). One factor differentiating the two is that “Civil War” was released on Friday, while “Fall” debuted the previous Tuesday. That gave the latter an edge on Fandango, which has a weekly Monday-Sunday chart. It was #1 on iTunes on Wednesday through Friday, with “Civil War” #1 since.

Plot: Atlas Shepherd, a brilliant but misanthropic data analyst with a deep distrust of artificial intelligence, joins a mission to capture a renegade robot with whom she shares a mysterious past. When plans go awry, her only hope of saving the future of humanity from AI is to trust it
Review: Jennifer Lopez has been in five films over the last two years, and another, Unstoppable, is still on the way. After her acclaimed 2019 performance in Hustlers, Lopez has starred in two romantic comedies, two action films, and a bizarre music video-slash-biopic monstrosity linked to her latest album. Now, her second Netflix feature in as many years, Atlas, aims to be J.Lo’s Marvel-esque blockbuster but falls short in every conceivable way. Directed by San Andreas helmer Brad Peyton, Atlas is a special effects-laden foray into the most cliched science fiction genre offering I have seen in a long time.

Netflix’s sci-fi thriller Atlas, starring Jennifer Lopez, Simu Liu, Sterling K. Brown, and Mark Strong, was released on May 24, 2024, and while it seemed like Netflix was going to have an action-packed hit in its library, the first reactions aren’t that great. The movie has been out for just a couple of hours now, and the critics had their say on the movie; from what we can infer from the initial reactions, the movie is actually – horrible! Based on several reviews, the movie has been declared Rotten on Rotten Tomatoes, as critics pan the movie. The initial audience reactions have yet to come in.
The movie was initially announced back in 2022, with principal photography beginning on August 26, 2022; the shooting ended in November 2022. Atlas is directed by Brad Peyton from a script by Leo Sardarian and Aron Eli Coleite.

Atlas Movie Review Rating:
Star Cast: Jennifer Lopez, Sterling K. Brown, Mark Strong and Simu Liu.
Director: Brad Peyton
Atlas Movie Review(Photo Credit –IMDb)
What’s Good: Some of the action is fun in a cheesy way, and the movie doesn’t know when to hold on to its unhinged energy.
What’s Bad: The acting is awful across the board, and great actors like Sterling K. Brown and Mark Strong are wasted.
Loo Break: You could take a break at any point, and you wouldn’t be missing much, as the film’s twist is just too predictable and there are no action or character moments worth waiting for.
Watch or Not?: This film is an overall pass. There are better offerings out there, especially with Furiosa and Dune still playing in theaters.
Language: English (with subtitles).
Available On: Netflix
Runtime: 118 Minutes.

It’s been a rather dreadful year for big Netflix original sci-fi films in 2024, and “Atlas,” the big event science-fiction dystopian thriller from director Brad Peyton (2015’s “San Andreas” and “Rampage”), won’t change that narrative in the slightest. Set in a conventionally bleak dystopian future—aren’t they all?— “Atlas” is rote and routine, using the concept of sci-fi and artificial intelligence in the most obvious way: A.I.

After watching J.Lo’s latest film, I began to wonder: Is Atlas the first pro-artificial intelligence movie of the decade? A prominent issue today is the use of AI. Atlas comes across as a movie from a studio trying to convince the public that AI is good for society. Initially, you might say no because Atlas spends so much time trying to destroy AI rather than protect it.
However, as the film progresses, the subtext and themes become so blatant that they’re impossible to miss. Atlas is the first pro-artificial intelligence film of its kind, practically propaganda. One of the film’s hidden messages is that AI doesn’t hurt society; the people who create it do. The other is that AI can be helpful if used in the right way.

Arriving on the heels of “The Greatest Love Story Never Told” — a true milestone of superstar transparency where Jennifer Lopez expressed a clear-eyed view of her current career status — “Atlas” feels like an underwhelming return to the kind of projects that have maintained Lopez’ place in the Hollywood firmament, but not the ones that catapulted her there in the first place.
One of her few science fiction-themed films, its novelty alone should make it stand out, especially with Brad Peyton, a reliable purveyor of large-scale spectacle in the director’s chair. But a dearth of original ideas undercuts the appeal of “Atlas,” leaving Lopez to fend for herself in much the same way her character is forced to in the film’s formulaic story.
Lopez plays the title character, a coffee-addicted, “rigid and hostile” data analyst whose mother Val (Lana Parilla) developed the first artificial-intelligence being, Harlan (Simu Liu), when Atlas was just a child.

Jennifer Lopez and her “Atlas” co-star Simu Liu shut down a reporter during a press junket in Mexico City for their new Netflix action movie after he asked Lopez if rumors are true she’s getting divorced from Ben Affleck. Rumors circulating online that Lopez and Affleck are ending their marriage have coincided with Lopez’s “Atlas” press tour, which included starry premieres in Los Angeles and Mexico.
“Ok, we’re not doing that,” Liu immediately told the reporter who asked about Affleck (via NBC News). “Thank you so much. We really appreciate it … come on, don’t come in here with that energy.
Lopez was even more blunt, telling the reporter: “You know better than that.”
Liu later heaped praise on Lopez, who both stars in and produced “Atlas.” Directed by “Rampage” and “San Andreas” filmmaker Brad Peyton, “Atlas” stars Lopez as a brilliant data analyst with a deep distrust of artificial intelligence.

Brad Peyton had his work cut out for him on the set of his new sci-fi action film, Atlas. The Canadian director’s new 2071-set film centers on Jennifer Lopez’s Atlas Shepherd, a data analyst whose deep mistrust of AI is tested to the extreme when she must rely on an AI-driven mech suit to survive after the latest attack by an AI terrorist (Simu Liu’s Harlan).
Having fled Earth nearly three decades earlier, Atlas is finally able to track down Harlan’s distant whereabouts on an alien planet. But just before a team of mech rangers can deploy on a mission to capture the villainous humanoid, Harlan attacks their ship in outer space, forcing Atlas to take refuge inside a mech suit that can land her on Harlan’s home planet. So, will this new project from Houser surpass the works that made him famous and well-known in the video game industry, creating a new game franchise?

All these decades later, GTA III still stands tall for the groundbreaking freedom it gave players. It’s easy to take for granted now, but prior to 2001 no other game like it existed. Science fiction not only aspires to tell stories that predict the future and the moral lessons that come from an uncertain path, but much of science fiction is also inspired by the current climate of culture. After movies like The Creator from Gareth Edwards, we may be seeing an influx of AI-related stories. The upcoming Atlas from Netflix has Jennifer Lopez fighting her own war in an exo suit that is run by an AI program that Lopez must trust in order to survive. The new trailer has now premiered online courtesy of Netflix.
The official plot synopsis from Netflix reads,
“Atlas Shepherd (Jennifer Lopez), a brilliant but misanthropic data analyst with a deep distrust of artificial intelligence, joins a mission to capture a renegade robot with whom she shares a mysterious past. But when plans go awry, her only hope of saving the future of humanity from AI is to trust it.
