For a show so overwhelmingly light, it is a suprise that it's becoming heavy handed on its use of positivism. The show has no real gravitas or conflicts anymore, it's becoming more and more a Xmas special (and not its great Xmas episode from before). With life being so bleak by itself it is refreshing to have a more uplifting show, but it has become a bit monotone and forced, thus moments that should be powerful don't seem earned anymore. The show itself was brilliant in showing how Ted's 24/7 optimism and unbridled enthusiasm was troublesome, so it is ironic that the show is falling on the same trap. Its brilliance comes when it takes the harsh reality of things and add a bit of magic, the "lasso way". But when everything is magical and fluffy, suddenly it's not so special anymore.
Ps: I love Trent, but I can't be the only one troubled by the fact that he went from the most intelligent man in the room to "the dummy that we love" and basically the one that's telling us, stupid viewers, how it is aaaall coming together.
