One of a series of second feature films based on Edgar Wallace novels, released between 1960 and 1965 in British cinemas. The films were later sold to American TV and screened there as The Edgar Wallace Mystery Theatre (1959).
The portrait above the fireplace was a print of a very famous 1950s painting by Vladimir Tretchikoff called "Chinese Girl" but better known as "The Green Lady". This was incredibly popular and in the 1960s in the UK, the majority of homes had a copy. It was one of the best selling prints of the twentieth century.
