Now, I was lured in to watching the 2021 South Korean thriller "The Hypnosis" on account of it being an Asian movie that I hadn't already seen, nor actually heard about, but also because I found the movie's cover to be rather interesting.
However, the cover turned out to be the most interest aspect there was to "The Hypnosis", because the script that writer and director Jae-Hoon Choi managed to put together here wasn't exactly particularly thrilling or entertaining. And that made it very difficult to sit through this movie.
Not only was the storyline and narrative lacking interesting aspects, but the characters in the movie felt very one-dimensional and offered little to delve into here, and that made for a flaccid movie experience.
As for "The Hypnosis" being a horror/thriller, well sure, if you are a newcomer to the horror genre. But for a life-long fan such as myself, then director Jae-Hoon Choi just simply didn't make a homerun.
If you enjoy Asian horror, like I do, then "The Hypnosis" is not really going to rock your world. And while I managed to endure the ordeal to the end, then this is not a movie that I will ever return to watch a second time. Nor is it a movie that I would recommend to fans of the Asian horror cinema.
My rating of "The Hypnosis" lands on a three out of ten stars.
