Rainie Yang and her pooch feel the terror in The Child's Eye.
The Child’s Eye, the fourth installment of the Hong Kong horror-thriller franchise The Eye that was launched by The Pang Brothers (Bangkok Dangerous) nearly a decade ago, is coming to DVD from Lionsgate on Oct. 11 for the list price of $26.98.
Just as they directed The Eye (2002), The Eye 2 (2004) and the bafflingly titled third film in the trilogy The Eye 10 (2005), The Pang Brothers (Oxide and Danny) are back behind the camera as the directors of 2010’s The Child’s Eye, which focuses on a group of friends who find themselves stranded in Thailand after unexpected airport closures. The MPAA just came back with ratings for several horror and thriller themed movies most notably Red State from Kevin Smith and The Howling Reborn. People who checked out the leaked trailer for The Howling Reborn compared it to The Twilight Saga. So was the werewolf action of this reboot watered down enough that it earned a PG-13 rating like the franchise that it evoked? Did Kevin Smith, who has had trouble with the MPAA in the past most famously for Clerks which originally earned an Nc-17 for language, run into trouble with the big bad old MPAA again? Here's the ratings the MPAA handed down on Boy Wonder, The Howling: Reborn, Red State and The Child's Eye.

Though very similar to the original one-sheet, the domestic artwork for the Pang brothers' latest entry into their Eye series, The Child's Eye 3D, has been tweaked a bit for us Yanks. Dig it!
The good news? It doesn't look as if anyone's farting to keep the spirits away in this one, though that cat is clearly suspect. But now it seems as if we get RPG's. Can heavy artillery keep the spooks away? I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
Synopsis
Stranded in Thailand by the political uprising and airport closure, Rainie and her friends were unable to return home. Reluctantly, they decide to stay in an aged and shabby hotel. Among them is Rainie’s almost-breakup boyfriend, Lok, Ling and her brother, Rex, and Ciwi with her beloved boyfriend, Hei. The moment they check into the hotel, they come across three weird children and a puppy that seems slightly odd.

The Pang Brothers' greatest successes - their international breakout with The Eye, their Cannes selection with Re-Cycle - have both come with star Angelica Lee in the lead so is it vain to hope that her third on-screen pairing with a Pang could restore them to their previous form?
The Pangs - twin brothers Danny and Oxide - have stumbled badly in recent years, seeming to favor quantity over quality with their standard output being one solo film each and a Brothers film almost every year. though their visual skills are still on display in fits and starts there's simply no denying that the quality of their scripts has been in steady decline and the international fan base built by The Eye has been steadily eroding. That said early work such as The Eye and the original Bangkok Dangerous still stand as potent pieces of work, making it difficult...

Three Hong Kong films were selected for this year's Venice Film Festival. Teh 67th edition will welcome The Child's Eye, Red Earth and the most buzzed film which is also bound for Tiff in Legend of the Fist: the Return of Chen Zhen. Red Earth, a short film directed by Clara Law (an Australian co-production), was previously selected for this year's Hong Kong International Film Festival as one of four films for "Quattro Hong Kong," a section of films produced by the festival society as a sort of tribute to the city of Hong Kong. Red Earth is about a management consultant played by Daniel Wu who goes to Hong Kong to meet a girl briefly encountered before, he checks in a hotel to wait for her to show him an unforgettable view of sunset that she promised him. The Pang Brothers will be off to Venice soon to premiere their latest effort, the 3D entry into their Eye franchise, The Child's Eye 3D. The story doesn't really seem to matter with these any more but the basic gist is a bunch of pretty young things in a haunted old hotel building where scary - or supposedly scary - things happen. Mileage may vary per viewer on this but to these eyes the gas seems to be running out of the tank.

The full lineup for this year's Venice film festival has been announced – but there's a no show for the new Terrence Malick
The full programme for this year's Venice film festival has been announced and, as predicted, many film-makers whose films weren't quite ready for Cannes will debut on the Lido. Somewhere, a Hollywood-set drama from Sofia Coppola, is amongst the premieres, likewise Vincent Gallo's Brown Bunny sequel, Promises Written in Water, apparently a black-and-white tale of a girl with a terminal illness.
Julian Schnabel's Miral, which follows Hind Husseini's efforts to set up an orphanage in Jerusalem after the 1948 partition of Palestine, also finds a home. However, Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life, which many had predicted would screen at the festival, is not on the list; nor that for the Toronto film festival, which directly follows Venice.
Other hotly tipped titles include Meek's Cutoff, Kelly Reichardt...

The Afflecks will celebrate on the Lido together - both actor-turned-directors are featured in the Out of Competition line-up (see below) and will surely jet back to Tiff together with The Town and the Phoenix doc - though those chances are indeed slim. Speaking of Toronto, the Ooc also features Anurag Kashyap's That Girl in Yellow Boots and Andrucha Waddington's Lope (Tiff claims they have the World Premiere, but I think we might see a correction on that later on). Takashi Miike gets celebrated, so does Asian 3D films, and John Turturro feels at home with his first Italian language docu feature. Finally, the Golden Lion for his career will go to John Woo - who is presenting Reign of Assassin. Rome -- Sofia Coppola's comedic drama "Somewhere" and "Road to Nowhere," a romantic thriller from veteran director Monte Hellman, were among the highlights of the main competition lineup for the 67th Venice Film Festival, which was released Thursday.
Other in-competition films include Vincent Gallo's "Promises Written in Water"; "Meek's Cutoff," a western from Kelly Reichardt; and Athina Racehel Tsangari's drama "Attenberg."
Artistic director Marco Mueller said that -- notwithstanding the presence of the 78-year-old Hellman -- the competition lineup was the youngest ever in the storied history of the festival, with the average age among the directors of the 22 in-competition films just 47.
"I think this is evidence of a new and dynamic kind of cinema that is being produced," Mueller told a standing-room-only crowd of reporters and industry players at Rome's Excelsior Hotel Thursday.

Let's try and forget about that horrid American remake of The Eye (though that Being Blind is Lots of Fun song I made up still brings a smile to my face), shall we? Danny and Oxide Pang's original chiller is still very much the goods! Yes, the sequels suck, especially Part 3 but hey! The next one's gonna be in 3D. Joy.
Production Weekly reports this morning that the Pang Brother's are hot to get started on their third sequel, The Child's Eye, in 3D. The only other details to report about this new project is that Elanne Kwong & Rainie Young have been cast.
Hey, as long as people aren't farting to keep the ghosts away (Damn you Part 3) I'll be more than happy to give this one a chance! Keep it here for more!
