One of Michael Raven's first movies, "Rage" is a model of succinct filmmaking, presenting a gripping little drama that holds one's interest beyond the requisite five sex scenes.
Herschel Savage is the lead character, seemingly going crazy and unable to distinguish anymore between fantasy and reality. He's married to the impressive Sydnee Steele (who would become Raven's favorite actress) but goes to a doctor played by Stephanie Swift on the advice of shrink Ron Jeremy (one of his guest cameos, uncredited).
Swift's "neuroscan" therapy elicits several dream sequences, presented as if taking place inside Herschel's brain, with Raven balancing drama and comedy as characters seemingly trapped in his head make wise cracks or have sex, including John Decker and Raquel Devine.
Story plays like fantasy or science fiction, neatly tied up at the end of just 76 minutes. Several performers, including Evan Stone and Lexington Steele, have their sex scenes presented for only a few seconds, a testament to Old School editing where the XXX content was subservient to the storytelling, almost a lost art in porn these days.
