This is a documentary on the particular lifestyle led by people from the outskirts of a town; the director would eventually toil in the most fanciful of “Euro-Cult” genres (Peplums, Gothic Horror and Spaghetti Westerns) but, here, displays a keen eye for the humdrum. Incidentally, though Italy was responsible for spearheading the “Neo-Realist” approach to film-making, this short adopts a rather pleasant color palette throughout! It depicts the unassuming and unhurried everyday chores of the various country-folk (shepherds, fishermen, construction workers, entertainers – with even the children doing their bit as scavengers)…despite the fact that their humble dwellings stand just a few paces away from the big cities, whose modern edifices loom in the background!
