- TriviaThe director set up a color scheme for the movie with which everyone is dressed in white, black, or gray unless they believe in the "magic" of Kevin's sentience, with which they wear a lot of color; the black-and-white communicating those living in a dull, monochromatic world. This culminates in a scene midway through with which four of the characters are dressed in bright colors while playing board games with Kevin. When Kevin goes missing, his parents feel less connected to him and become more monochromatic while Velvet realizes her affection for him and her wardrobe and makeup becomes more vibrant. In his ransom video, Dunbar is wearing black but is seen with a red overlay; at this point, he simultaneously acknowledges Kevin as a doll and is immersed in Kevin as a living entity.
