Ahead of its opening on February 26th, the first trailer has landed for The Truth Commissioner directed by Declan Recks (Eden). Filmed on location in Belfast, Derry and Dublin, the film is adapted from David Park’s award winning novel of the same name and looks behind the rhetoric surrounding the Northern Ireland peace process. Synopsis: Set in a post-troubles Northern Ireland, The Truth Commissioner follows the fictional story of Henry Stanfield (Roger Allam, V for Vendetta), a career diplomat who has just been appointed as Truth Commissioner to Northern Ireland. Co-starring Barry Ward (Jimmy’s Hall), Sean McGinley (The General), Conleth Hill (‘Game of Thrones’), Ian McElhinney (‘Game of Thrones’) and Tom Goodman Hill (The Imitation Game), the story revolves around the lives of three men who are directly or indirectly involved in the disappearance, 20 years earlier, of 15-year-old Connor Roche. Though Stanfield starts bravely, he quickly uncovers some.

Haifaa Al-Mansour’s A Storm In The Stars and comedy Halal Daddy among those supported in latest funding round.
A culture-clash comedy set in Ireland’s first Halal meat factory is among the productions backed by the Irish Film Board (Ifb) in its latest round of funding decisions, which totals more than €3m.
Halal Daddy - the story of a young Muslim’s struggle to manage a rundown abattoir in the West of Ireland - has received a production funding commitment of €500,000.
It is one of a number of comedies backed by the Ifb as it faces the challenge of building on what has been a buoyant period for the Irish film industry, with a number of projects performing strongly throughout awards season. Comedy traditionally performs well with domestic audiences.
Halal Daddy will begin shooting in Sligo in early summer and was written by Conor McDermottroe (Swansong: Story Of Occi Byrne) and Mark O’Halloran (Adam & Paul...

Katie McGrath was born on October 24, 1983 in Ashford, County Wicklow, Ireland. She attended Trinity College in Dublin and graduated in History. Katie never considered acting as a career. Her real interest was in fashion journalism. After graduation she worked for lifestyle and fashion magazine, Image. Katie's mother had a friend who was an assistant director on the TV series The Tudors (TV). This friend was instrumental in getting Katie a job as a wardrobe assistant on the series. While working on The Tudors (TV) Katie said "A couple of producers said I should give acting a try. I just thought, "Why not?" It's like running away to join the circus, everyone wants to do it when they're young but then you grow up and get a proper job." Taking their advise she sent her photographs to Irish agents. As a result, she landed the plum role of Morgana on the...

As soon as we thought we could predict the outcome of the Oscars, here comes another surprise! This one's brought to you by the Writers Guild of America. Picked for Best Original Screenplay was Christopher Nolan's "Inception." The director, famously dissed for not getting a Best Director Oscar nomination, may just win the Best Original Screenplay come Oscar night. Oscar front-runner, "The King's Speech" was not nominated because it didn't quality under union rules which prompted Nolan to say during his WGA acceptance award that he looked forward to a time when he could accept the award "without qualification."
That could be the beginning of a great script Mr. Nolan, go write it :happy
For adapted screenplay, I'm happy to report that Aaron Sorkin's fantastic script won! Based on "The Accidental Billionaires" by Ben Mezrich, "The Social Network" was the only film last year that I predicted to win this very category.

Winner of the Best Actress award at this year's Tribeca Film Festival, Eileen Walsh is an Irish actress known largely for stage work and an Irish TV show, Pure Mule. But her new movie Eden, which won her the award at Tribeca and opens today, has already introduced her to American audiences with her tender, heartbreaking performance as Breda, an ignored and lonely wife. The martial drama started as a play performed in Dublin, and Walsh knew the director, screenwriter, and her co-star Aidan Kelly, all of which went into making Eden the emotional experience it is. Having traveled again to New York while five months pregnant, Walsh talked to me about getting into her lonely character, and the grand experience of making the movie with who she calls "the boys." Were you in New York when the film was at the Tribeca Film Festival? I was here for three...

by Eric Kohn (November 12, 2008) In Irish director Declan Recks' remarkably tense romantic drama "Eden," actions speak louder than words -- or, at least, more coherently, as far as American audiences are concerned. For those inexperienced in the careful discernment of regional accents, "Eden" offers no subtitles, but the central themes are thankfully not lost in translation. Recks relied on visual lyricism as much as dialogue when translating Eugene O'Brien's devastating 2002 play about an estranged young married couple from the stage to the screen. As a result, he doesn't mind if a few lines remain unintelligible to certain viewers. "It makes them pay attention more," Recks told indieWIRE. "People might not get every single word, but they know what's going on from the performances. It's not a very heavily plotted film; it's a character study."...

Some movies unfurl slowly. The characters draw you in and then gradually reveal themselves, allowing the audience to see, feel, and breathe their world through their point of view, regardless of how ugly or boring it may be. The indie movie Eden (Liberation Entertainment) is one such movie.
Irish director Declan Recks expertly adapts writer Eugene O'Brien's award-winning play about a marriage teetering on the brink of extinction while exposing the tedium and underlying staleness that many couples experience after growing too comfortable with each other.
