Movie was on dutch TV tonight, watched it but I'm really disappointed. The movie has a great cast, some fine dutch actors.
But there where some writers that made a lot of effort to keep it from becoming a good movie. There are like 3 a 4 different stories in the film which don't supplement each other.
Every potential to make it a good story has been left unexploited. No humor, a a shortage of tension, stories didn't merged together. I saw the clock and noticed there where only 10 minutes left to complete all the stories. And this is really done in 10 minutes, it's a shame.
All great actors but a bad story writer....

I saw this movie in the 'Sneak Preview' last night and I have to say this is the worst Dutch movie since 'Vet Hard'. I was quite excited about seeing this because it was made by the people who created 'Shouf Shouf Habibi' and Dutch movie I really enjoyed.
Kicks has got like three stories to it. On one side you've got these two Moroccan young boys who like to rap and seem to think all Dutch people are racists. Then you've got the twisted story about a commercial maker who wants to make a feature film involving bestiality and illegal immigrants. The last story is about a Moroccan guy and girl who are about the get married when the girl tells the guy she isn't a virgin anymore.
The movie lacked comedy, lacked story.. Afterwards I heard several people say how the hated the movie and they also didn't know what it was about. Besides Mimoun Oaïssa is being type casted far too much together with all of his Maroccan friends. Please! Aren't there any other Dutch/Maroccan actors out there?!?
Kicks is a TV movie at best and even that would disgrace to the term TV-movie.

This would be my first "review" on IMDb, but I can tell you why I'm going to do this. First of all. I just got back from seeing this film and I'd like to share my opinion.
When the movie started I thought it was just going to be another dumb dutch film, with bad acting and no storyline. However, this might still not have great acting talent, it is definitely one of the best I've seen so far.
If you've ever seen the movie "crash" which won an Oscar in 2006 you'll instantly realize the similarities. There are to many to count. The critical difference, which makes this movie a good movie, is that they used only typical dutch stereo types and gave an accurate cultural portrayal of the current society.
Anyway, should you decide not to want to watch a movie like this I as no other would understand, but this is NOT a bad movie.

In my opinion "Kicks" could have been a great movie, if the director had been more creative at some points. In the beginning of the movie i noticed the different story-lines, and expected that the story would develop in a way like movies like "Pulp Fiction", "Go" and "Snatch": different stories within a movie would all come together at the end and would make perfect sense. That is what lacked at this movie in my opinion.
Please, don't nag about the fact that Mimoun Ouaissa and all his Moroccan friends play in every Dutch movie about Dutch Moroccans. Every one of them is one of the best Dutch-Moroccan actors we have. And besides, it's kinda the same as Rob Schneider appearing in almost every Adam Sandler movie (and the other way around). Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller: same story. I think it's funny that all Adam Sandler's friends (Allen Covert, Peter Dante, Jonathan Loughran) appear in lots of movies he plays in (like Big Daddy, Little Nicky etc.). Mimoun Ouaissi, Mimoun Ouled Radi and Mohammed Chaara are a club like them.
