Some Playboy titles make for easy reviews if not great watches. Put 'Playmate Pajama Party' in that category and mark it down as a question of what a viewer wants in a video. Do you want to be turned on by beautiful women getting naked or are you looking for some history into the famed company, founder, mansion? If you're like me and find yourself sitting firmly in the first boat then you might be better choosing something else. Nudity is here, but it ain't the priority.
The intro (6 mins) naturally plays up the company and Hef with the use of a narrator as clips - parties, vintage times - are shown. "Renewing the Spirit" is the featured Playmates (Laura Cover, Jaime Bergman, Stacy Sanches, Stacy Fuson, Heather Kozar, Lisa Dergan, Alexandra Karlsen, Vanessa Gleason, Deanna Brooks, Elisa Bridges) arriving. Champagne, spread of food and they sign the guest book in cheesy fashion. Old Playmate contests are shown and then really forced soundbites with the ladies. Many of them go topless at the pool which continues into checking out animals nude. There's very likable shots of laying out, causally posing sans clothes but also many misses such as a parrot, the grounds intercut. (6.5 mins)
"The Tradition Continues" sees the history, use of the tennis court explored before some of the Playmates play, laugh. An odd on purpose upskirt or topless shot here as they carry around or watch (3 mins). "Something for Everyone" is back to the exotic animals on the grounds and then talk about their fav rooms in the place. It cuts to the gym for full body sights of Lisa, Deanna and then Laura & Heather. I can't deny the visuals are good, but it's over pretty quick (3 mins). "The Lap of Luxury" continues about the mansion as now three of them (Deanna, Laura & Heather) are in a sauna. Again some of the very yummy visuals but short (2 mins). Now Elisa & Vanessa have an outdoor shower and again more good looks (some in slow-mo) but thankfully a bit longer (3.5 mins). Lastly it wraps on Deanna getting oil put on and a massage with some great closeups of her buns and then Vanessa gets the same treatment (3.5 mins, 9 mins total).
"Let the Games Begin" plays up how the atmosphere at the mansion changes at night which leads to four (Lisa, Elisa, Deanna & Vanessa) playing cards then you quickly realize it's strip poker. Bra's taken off in succession, panties, lingerie which is fairly nice (4 mins). A chat with a different bunch leads to a mini tour vintage pics shown on the walls for the less interesting part (7.5 mins total). "Slumber Party" gets back to the right type of visuals. Five of them (Heather, Deanna, Stacy, Jaime, Elisa) hang out in cheesy but fun girlie fashion. Lots of nudity & a playful vibe make this part a winner (4 mins).
"Fun and Games" has a quick word about the game room and vintage footage is shown. Then a bevy of them (Alexandra, Stacy, Heather, Laura, Lisa) in only nighties or tops/panty combos play pool & slowly get naked. They play foosball nude as things wrap. It's not as hot as "Slumber Party" but there's some good pieces (5.5 mins). "The Grotto" starts with another chat on the topic before more vintage clips. Once you get past this filler you get the ladies in and out of the water sipping on champagne. A naughty look between Elisa's legs shocked me in a good way, but there's other nice peeks though maybe not as many as you would expect given the placement (5 mins). "Rooms With a View" drops more vintage, celebrity footage before the group of ladies take over in the screening room. Hot clips from various PB titles splash the screen, but it's kinda a copout. At the end a pillow fight gets started in the hall and the nighties come off, but it's cut short squeezed onto the end (9 mins).
'Playmate Pajama Party' isn't without merit, but a focus on the wrong elements take it down a peg. I could tune into a few docs that discuss Playboy's history, ups & downs, triumphs, sore spots if that was my goal. The vintage clips, silly self serving narrative thankfully never became a pain, but are a waste of time. Thankfully there are some good pieces with the beautiful Playmates. If you're aware of what you're stepping into I'd say give it a go, but it's not one of their top tier titles.
