Ever wanted to become a paranormal renovator, clearing out haunted mansions to restore them to their former glory? Image Power is looking to give you that opportunity with Haunted House Renovator. The team recently announced a Kickstarter to help get the necessary funds to “make the best game possible” for not only PC via Steam, but also consoles.
Touted as being both a relaxing and spooky, Haunted House Renovator has you as a ghost-hunting renovator, whose job it is to exorcise ghosts and other monsters from mansions, then restore said mansions to a livable state. It’s not as easy as it sounds, as applying new wallpaper won’t be enough to convince your customers that a house is safe. There’s also the issue of dealing with whatever is haunting the mansion.
You’ll deal not only with ghosts and monsters, but also curses and possessions, with each locale...

This year celebrates 25 years since the final year of the 1900’s. A year that brought about such classics as The Matrix, Fight Club, American Pie, and Office Space as well as my personal favorite movie of all time: Arlington Road. The year was so successful that 20 years later it would inspire a book titled Best Movie Year Ever.
With a vast cannon of films ranging from highly anticipated block busting prequels (Star Wars: Episode 1- The Phantom Menace) to that years’ eventual Best Picture winner American Beauty and a movie that changed the meaning of twist endings forever (The Sixth Sense) 1999 truly was a year for the ages.
I will be honest, after compiling last weeks list for Best Movies from 1994 and now this list, I have to say 1994 was far more deserving of its own book! But that isn’t to say that 1999 doesn’t have a number of...

Since January 2, the four motion picture guilds comprising makeup artists & hairstylists, costume designers, art directors, and sound mixers have announced their nominations for the year’s best work in their respective fields. While there has been plenty of variation in their choices, all four organizations have shown solidarity in recognizing three films: “Barbie,” “Maestro,” and “Oppenheimer”. All of these rank among our top 10 Best Picture candidates, with “Oppenheimer” in first place, “Barbie” in third, and “Maestro” in sixth.
Six of the remaining nine guilds will be heard from over the next week, starting with both the actors and directors on Jan. 10. They will be followed in order by the cinematographers (Jan. 11), producers (Jan. 12), sound editors (Jan. 15), and visual effects artists (Jan. 16), all of whom will reveal their awards finalists during the Oscar nominations voting period.

Some of the movies we talk about have opinions fueled by nostalgia if they are good or reputation if they are bad. Of course, everything is subjective when speaking about how you feel about a movie. It can be tied to events in your life that make you happy or sad. You can enjoy it on the strength of an actor, writer, or director you enjoy being involved or hate it for those exact reasons on a creator not being your favorite. Some things are irrefutable though such as box office or critical appraisal. Van Helsing (watch it Here) was the culmination of what Stephen Sommers had been working towards with tales of fantasy like The Adventures of Huck Finn...

Shane MacGowan, lead singer for The Pogues, has died at the age of 65. MacGowan had been in the intensive care unit following a diagnosis of viral encephalitis, an inflammation of the brain. He later passed away on November 30th.
Shane MacGowan’s distinct vocals and the band’s melding of punk aesthetics and Celtic tradition helped make The Pogues one of the most revered bands of its genre. Haunted Ulster Live is part homage to, and part parody of the BBC’s infamous Ghostwatch. For those unfamiliar with it, it was a 1992 Halloween special hosted by Michael Parkinson and presented as a live broadcast from a haunted house. Unfortunately, many viewers didn’t know it wasn’t the real thing and the BBC ended up fielding over 1,000,000 from concerned viewers. An early entry in the mockumentary/found footage genre it’s also the precursor of films like Kild TV, Deadstream, and The Cleansing Hour.
It’s Halloween night in 1998, TV veteran Gerry Burns and children’s TV presenter Michelle Kelly along with radio DJ Declan broadcasting live from the attic of an allegedly haunted house. They’re joined by the home’s owner Sarah, her daughter Rose,...

It might sound strange but the concept of hauntings – ghosts, poltergeists, strange phenomena – are something of a comfort to Danny Robins, the British writer, broadcaster and journalist behind the highly successful podcasts Haunted, The Battersea Poltergeist, The Witch Farm and Uncanny, the latter of which is now also a three part show which aired on BBC 2, now available on BBC iPlayer. Created during the pandemic, Robins’ foray into supernatural podcasting felt, well, natural.
“Battersea Poltergeist was the first time where I just felt like I was really myself on tape,” he tells Den of Geek. “I just felt it was like a deliciously refreshing invigorating thing to just completely be yourself, to make something that you really desperately care about.”
If that level of care and enthusiasm is apparent from the podcasts (it is), then it’s even more so in the show, where Robins investigates a story over the course of an hour,...

Halloween isn't just for children. That's why whenever scary season rolls around, you need a music playlist that keeps everyone in mind - from the kids who love the latest ghoulish Disney Channel Original Movie musical to those who got down to Michael Jackson's "Thriller" when it first came out in the '80s.
That's also why you have to get creative when it comes to the spooky songs you choose for your Allhallows' Eve playlists. If you only include songs that are explicitly Halloween-themed, like "Monster Mash" by Bobby "Boris" Pickett and the Crypt-Kickers or "This Is Halloween" from "The Nightmare Before Christmas," the tunes could get stale real quick. So remember to work in music that has Halloween vibes, too.
Jimin's "Filter" may not strike you as a Halloween song at first but with lyrics like, "I can be your genie / How about Aladdin? / I'll be...

Evanescence are celebrating the 20th anniversary of their seminal 2003 album Fallen with a Super Deluxe Edition box set and expanded vinyl and CD reissues, arriving November 17th via Craft Recordings.
Each format includes various demos, outtakes, B-sides, and live recordings from the Fallen era, including a previously unreleased demo of the band’s massive hit “Bring Me to Life” that can be streamed below.
Amy Lee and company pulled out all the stops for the Super Deluxe Edition box set, which includes the standard 2-lp reissue and a box-set-exclusive cassette featuring unreleased demos and voice notes. It’s a boon for Evanescence completionists, as any Fallen-era rarities and demos have only surfaced on obscure bootlegs up to this point.
Additional ephemera in the box set includes a book featuring new track-by-track notes from Lee, a turntable slipmat emblazoned with the band’s logo, a double-sided poster, and an enamel pin set.

Updated with details of capture: Look for the bear necessities, the simple bear necessities — like shutting down rides and attractions at Walt Disney World when there’s an ursine interloper in the park.
That’s what happened this morning at the Orlando resort as a bear was spotted near Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Frontierland shortly after the park opened, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
Officials from that office were later able to capture and relocate the bear, who likely was trolling for food ahead of its winter hibernation. Bears gonna bear.
Orlando NBC station WESH2 published video showing officials carrying “a large black figure in a white tarp.” The station – and the rest of us – later confirmed with Fish & Wildlife that the bear was, indeed, captured.
Disney had already returned to business as usual.

Atari is reaching back to bring back one of their classics. Their 1982 precursor to the modern Survival Horror game Haunted House (which turned 40 not too long ago) is getting a modern makeover in the form of an isometric roguelite, courtesy of Orbit Studio. Best of all, you won’t have to wait long, as Haunted House is set to arrive on PC via Steam, PlayStation 4 and 5, Nintendo Switch, Atari Vcs, and the Xbox One and Series on October 12.
Drawing inspiration from the original classic while adopting modern stealth-horror characteristics, Haunted House sees players take on the role of Lyn Graves, the niece of renowned treasure hunter Zachary Graves. When Lyn learns of her uncle’s disappearance, she and her friends head to his mansion to investigate, but before long, Lyn’s friends are also swallowed by the mansion.

It's been 13 years since horror master John Carpenter has blessed the world with a new directorial project, but the icon behind movies like "Halloween," "Escape From New York," and "The Thing" is finally returning to our screens this autumn — with a documentary-like TV horror series. "John Carpenter's Suburban Screams" will feature six nerve-shredding true stories retold by those who experienced them, and will couple the testimony with dramatic (and decidedly scary-looking) visual retellings of the story. The show is also set to include archival footage and news clips.
Carpenter is only set to direct one of the six episodes of "Suburban Screams," but he's involved in the project in other ways, lending his considerable talents as a composer to its soundtrack and executive producing the Peacock project. The show sounds like it will meet at the intersection of reality and horror movie sensibilities, which could be the perfect recipe for some great scares.

“Haunted Mansion,” Disney’s second attempt at adapting its beloved theme park attraction as a live-action feature, will soon find a home on Disney+. The new movie — released theatrically this past July and starring Lakeith Stanfield, Owen Wilson, Rosario Dawson and Tiffany Haddish — will debut on Disney’s streaming platform on Oct. 4, just in time for Halloween spooky season.
In this “Haunted Mansion,” Dawson plays a young single mother who moves into the titular abode, which is stuffed (of course) with 999 happy haunts. She calls on a variety of paranormal experts, including Stanfield (who does New Orleans ghost tours), Wilson (a priest) and Haddish (a psychic), along with Danny DeVito as a local history professor with a keen knowledge of the house and its tangled history.
Also, Jamie Lee Curtis shows up as Madame Leota, the iconic Haunted Mansion character (she’s the iconic medium-in-the-crystal ball from the attraction). As you might expect,...

Haunted Mansion was launched as a theme park attraction at Disneyland in 1969. Riders get strapped inside “doom buggies” and whisked through a spooky old manor with chills and thrills around every corner. The ride doesn’t end at the last stop, either. A mirror along the exit captures the image of a phantom prankster attaching itself to each visitor. For Disney’s upcoming Haunted Mansion film, director Justin Simien wants to bring that feeling home.
“My number one goal as a filmmaker is to make sure you actually get haunted,” Simien tells Den of Geek magazine. “I was nine when I rode the Haunted Mansion at Disney World, and you couldn’t tell me that dude was not still over my shoulder all around the park.”
The feeling never left, so Simien brought that spirit to pitch meetings.

Drop everything now and listen to Taylor Swift’s latest release, Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), out via Apple Music and Spotify.
Originally released in 2010, Speak Now is arguably Swift’s most alternative album, complete with booming choruses and snarky, staccato pop punk guitar. Compare the plots and sound of “Better Than Revenge” to, say, Paramore’s “Misery Business,” and it’ll quickly make sense as to why Swift enlisted Hayley Williams to appear on the album’s re-recording.
Williams appears on a vault track called “Castles Crumbling,” while, in keeping with Speak Now’s alternative influences, Fall Out Boy contribute to the deep cut “Electric Touch.” The reissued LP also features the vault tracks “When Emma Falls in Love,” “I Can See You,” “Foolish One,” and “Timeless,” in addition to new recordings of the original 16-track album.
Notably, Swift also used the re-release to take back a now-controversial lyric from “Better Than Revenge.

At long last, Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) has arrived. The third release in Taylor Swift’s series of rerecorded albums, this updated version of her third studio LP flashes all the way back to 2010. Then, she was entering her twenties with her first entirely self-written record under her belt, a giant step that solidified the same legacy she’s attempting to protect by recording every album before Lover to gain control of her own master recordings.

Long before she traded in country music for unstoppable pop stardom, there was a moment in time when Taylor Swift decided to go full emo. And it really was just a moment, particularly the mid-point of NBC‘s Thanksgiving Special: Taylor Swift – Speak Now in 2010, just one month after she released her third studio album Speak Now. Her nine-song setlist could have soundtracked a fairytale: There were dreamy renditions of “Sparks Fly” and “Enchanted,” but when she reached “Haunted,” Swift let the teenage angst that inspired it consume her completely.

"This mansion is unhinged!" "These ghosts definitely don't wanna leave." Disney has revealed their first full-length official trailer for the Haunted Mansion movie, based on the beloved theme park attraction at Disneyland. The movie is directed by Justin Simien and will open in theaters in June. They dropped the first teaser a few months ago, with more haunted mansion footage to entice you in this one. A single mom named Gabbie hires a tour guide, a psychic, a priest, and historian to help exorcise their newly bought mansion; after discovering it is inhabited by ghosts. The film features an ensemble cast including Lakeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Dan Levy, Danny DeVito, Rosario Dawson, Chase W. Dillon, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Jared Leto as The Hatbox Ghost – who we finally get a glimpse of in this trailer. This look like fun! Didn't think I'd be so into this, but I'm ready for the ride.

The Conjuring producer Tony DeRosa-Grund wrote the initial story for The Conjuring, provided the film with its name, and created a road map for the franchise – and yet he hasn’t worked on any of the sequels or spin-offs that have followed. Now Cinedigm has announced that they’re teaming up with DeRosa-Grund to develop a new paranormal horror film called The Haunted, which they’re hoping will spawn another franchise on the level of the Conjuring movies.
The Haunted is said to be “based on verifiable events”. Story details are being kept under wraps, but Cinedigm did reveal that the first film in this hopefully-franchise-to-be begins with one family’s dark and terrifying real-life preternatural experiences which intersect with historical facts and legends surrounding a young pregnant woman accused by her own father of being a witch. That convergence places the family in impending mortal danger.

In “Dear Edward,” Carter Hudson portrays John, the husband of Lacey (Taylor Schilling). Lacey loses her sister in a plane crash and the couple takes in her nephew Edward (Colin O’Brien), the lone survivor, as a result.

And when it comes to the horror genre, there is one specific work of literature that had a hand in everything from the rise of Found Footage to the success of recent horror phenomena like the Backrooms creepypasta and even Kyle Edward Ball’s Skinamarink. Naturally, I’m referring to Mark Z. Danielewski’s House of Leaves, an experimental novel that you...
