Alex Proyas' 1994 Gothic superhero-adjacent film "The Crow" -- based in the 1989 comic book by James O'Barr -- may not be the best film of the 1990s, but it might be the most 1990s film of the 1990s. Proyas' bleak, overdecorated Bauhaus aesthetic, paired with the film's self-pitying themes of violent, vengeful angst, speak incredibly loudly to the Gen-Xers who saw it as teens. "The Crow" gave voice to a certain generation's tendency to see the world as corrupt and untrustworthy, and it was only rising above death and destroying the evildoers that a bleak kind of catharsis might be achieved. "The Crow" is adolescent, yes, but important.
The plot of "The Crow" is dark and simple. In a dark, alternate version of Detroit, Eric Draven (Brandon Lee) is shot and killed while he watches his fiancée (Sofia Shinas) get brutally assaulted. A mystical crow, however, finds Eric's departed soul and reunites it with his body,...

The Phantom of the Opera is sometimes considered one of the Universal Monsters. I get it. From the 1925 version that gave us one of the most infamous unmasking sequences ever courtesy of the great Lon Chaney Sr., through the Hammer iteration with Herbert Lom, all the way up to the 2004 film that gave a lot of us our intro to Gerard Butler. Speaking of that movie, its inspiration and reason for its existence was the Andrew Lloyd Weber musical that premiered in October of 1986 and has had runs all the way through as recently as 2021. 1989 was the beginning of its U.S. tour and we got not one but Two Phantom movies that year. Phantom of the Mall: Eric’s Revenge is cheesy and may just be more well known due to our friend Joe Bob featuring it on the Last Drive In recently. Here in the JoBlo Horror kitchen today...

The Story: A college kid (Brandon Lee) witnesses a gangland hit. Betrayed by witness protection, he’s recruited by a task force headed by a no-nonsense cop (Powers Boothe) as a pawn, but little do they know he’s more than able to handle himself against any of his foes.
The Players: Starring: Brandon Lee, Powers Boothe, Tzi Ma & Nick Mancuso. Directed by Dwight H. Little.
The History: The early nineties were the heyday of the martial arts movie star. Steven Seagal and Jean-Claude Van Damme were consistently churning out hits, so if they could become icons, why not a guy like Brandon Lee? He was movie star handsome, could move, was charismatic and could act. Oh yeah – he also happened to be the son of the greatest Kung-Fu movie star of all time, Bruce Lee.
“I wouldn’t want to refer to them as stepping stones. That seems to demean them.

A few months ago, director Dwight H. Little – the director of such films as Rapid Fire (starring Brandon Lee), The Phantom of the Opera (starring Robert Englund), the Steven Seagal vehicle Marked for Death, Free Willy 2, the Wesley Snipes mystery Murder at 1600, Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid, Tekken, and my favorite of the Halloween sequels, Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers – released a memoir called Still Rolling: Inside the Hollywood Dream Factory (copies can be purchased at This Link). In one passage of the book, Little discusses the series of mistakes and oversights that led to Brandon Lee’s tragic shooting death on the set of The Crow. With a remake of The Crow set to reach theatres in June and Rust armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed having just been found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the case of the shooting death on the set of that film,...

After working together on the 2021 version of Wrong Turn, director Mike P. Nelson and screenwriter Alan B. McElroy are re-teaming for the Brazil-set creature feature Titan – and Deadline reports that Kiana Madeira of the Fear Street trilogy and Jessica Rothe of the Happy Death Day movies are set to star in the film!
The story Titan is set against the backdrop of Brazil’s Curuçá River in the present day. When a team of young doctors embark on a local humanitarian mission through the Amazon rainforest, it soon becomes clear that not everyone – or everything – is happy to see them. Their arrival draws the attention of an ancient predator, the “Boiúna”. This ancient killer, dominant on land and water, clashes to reclaim the jungle. The ensuing fight for survival blurs the roles of hunter, prey, and hero.
The film is coming our way from the Resident Evil franchise makers at Constantin Film and Jb Pictures.

Dwight Little’s legacy falls into one of three categories: horror, action, and TV. From the horror couplet that is Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers and the Robert Englund-starring Phantom of the Opera to the action trilogy of Rapid Fire, Marked for Death, and Murder at 1600, as well as his TV work (The X-Files among his most-known projects), Little has managed to reinvent himself numerous times over his 30+ years career.
It’s not an easy task to stay relevant in an ever-evolving landscape, especially in the age of streaming, but Little’s instincts have always guided his creative hand. Mumbai, Dec 5 (Ians) Director-producer Karan Johar, who currently hosts the streaming chat show ‘Koffee With Karan’, has shared that he along with the team of the show tried to find a replacement to the iconic rapid fire round for the chat show.
The ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ director recently spoke with the media at a special event for the show, where he spoke about how despite being an iconic segment on the show, the rapid fire has time and again come under the scanner for the sheer controversies it spells out.
Talking to the media, KJo said: “We are in a very sensitive climate currently mostly because of social media. Today, things can go out of proportion in a heartbeat. If someone says something, it draws reactions from the people on the Internet. People who come on my show, I have a responsibility towards them because I have invited them to my show.

‘Koffee With Karan’ Season 8 Episode 4 Recap & Review: Kareena Kapoor and Alia Bhatt Spill The Beans
The fourth episode of Koffee with Karan brought together two actresses who are not only related to each other through marriage but have both been considered among the best actresses to come out of the Hindi film industry. Both belong to a family of producers, directors, and actors, and despite their legacy, they have carved their own paths. One of them is a veteran, while the other has cemented herself as an exceptional artist in just ten years. Kareena Kapoor Khan and Alia Bhatt graced the Koffee Kouch, and Karan rightly described them practically as his blood. Alia is like the first child he never had, while Kareena Kapoor has been his best friend for many years. The conversation they had over the course of the episode is a testament to the friendship they share and the respect they have for one another.

The third episode of Koffee with Karan had two distinct young actresses from the Hindi film industry who are trying to create a niche for themselves. Sara Ali Khan and Ananya Pandey are only a few films old, but they have left a mark through certain films and have set themselves apart as artists who can be banked upon. Koffee with Karan Episode 3 was filled with Gen-z lingo and humor as the new generations of actresses graced the Koffee couch this week. Let’s find out what happened in the episode through a detailed recap of the talk-show.
Sara and Ananya begin the show by speaking in detail about being workout buddies. They also talk about how they always remained friends and how the paparazzi have never been able to pin them down together, which they believe gives them a lot of relief. Even on the couch, the two converse...

Koffee with Karan Season Eight began with a bang, and it generated a lot of positive and negative reactions on social media that focused on Ranveer and Deepika’s relationship dynamics. Discourse is necessary in a country like ours, but moving on to the next episode is the best thing to do to get over all the white noise around the last one.
The second episode had two of the most subdued guests, who have been known for delivering both hit and flop films spanning decades. Sunny and Bobby Deol grace the couch for the second time in twenty years. Nothing has changed in the dynamics the brothers share. The feeling of family values they projected two decades ago still resonates in this episode as well. Their career trajectories have gone through various ups and downs, but they retain a strong, dignified stature throughout the show. Sunny Deol and Bobby...

John Beasley, an actor best known for his roles on the TV shows ‘Everwood’ and ‘The Soul Man,’ died Tuesday at the age of 79.
Beasley’s son Mike shared the news of his father’s death on Facebook.
“Man…you know this is a part of life…but that doesn’t make it any easier,” Mike W. Beasley wrote above a photo of him and his father. “I lost my best friend today. They say you shouldn’t ever meet your heroes because they don’t turn out to be who you thought they were. That is so wrong. My hero was my father. Thank you for everything. I hope I made you proud. Love you more.”
The character actor died in a hospital in his hometown of Omaha, Nebraska, where he’d been undergoing tests on his liver before his condition unexpectedly worsened, Beasley’s son Tyrone told The Hollywood Reporter.

I've got a trailer for a great looking thriller for you to watch today for a film called Last Rampage. The movie has a modern day western vibe as Robert Patrick escapes from prison and goes on a murderous rampage as he is being hunted down by Bruce Davison. The movie also stars Heather Graham and is based on a true story. Here's the synopsis:
In the summer of 1978, convicted murderer Gary Tison (Patrick) and his cellmate Randy Greenawalt (Chris Browning) staged a daring escape from an Arizona State Prison, with the help of Tison’s three teenage sons. Their murderous rampage through the southwestern desert shocked the nation with its brutality. While Sheriff Cooper (Davison) hunted the men down, Tison's wife (Graham) vehemently defended her family in the press.
The movie is an adaptation of the book Last Rampage: The Escape of Gary Tison written by James W. Clarke.

Super Bowl 50 champion Peyton Manning dropped by The Tonight Show Thursday to share some reflections from the big game. But if the Denver Broncos quarterback's memories seemed hazy, there's a good reason: He was being impersonated by Zoolander 2 actress Kristen Wiig, who hilariously fumbled answers to Jimmy Fallon's questions.
"I'm still so tired – from Sunday!" she says in the clip. "I tried really hard!" When Fallon asks what was going through Manning's head during the final Super Bowl seconds, the fake quarterback responds, "I'm thinking I'm so far from the line.

EA details the character abilities we'll see as we play Han, Leia or Palpatine in Star Wars: Battlefront...
We're already preparing our best gravelly "Fully operational battle station" Emperor Palpatine impression, as EA reveals details of three additional characters in Star Wars: Battlefront. As you've probably gathered, they're household names from the Star Wars-verse: on the side of all that's good in the galaxy, there's Leia Organa and Han Solo. On the side of evil, the cackling, scheming Emperor Palpatine in his fright make-up.
They join the characters already announced - Luke Skywalker, Boba Fett, Darth Vader - as the six heroes and villains we'll be able to briefly control at certain moments in the game. Each will have their own unique ability; Luke with his Force Pushes, Sabre Rushes and Smouldering Sulk ability (we may have made the last one up), Vader with...

What a difference four months, and some good campaigning, makes.

Unshaven Comics has attended this show several times, and we’re big fans. The show-runners are nice, honest, and bring a solid block of comic-focused attendees every year. But, as it would seem, their show is under some kind of duress. With a shorter runway then I’ve been privy to seeing prior, they launched a campaign seeking $10,000. A double episode takes Defiance closer to its season two finale. Here's Billy's review...
This review contains spoilers.
2.10 & 2.11 Bottom Of The World & Doll Parts
I'm not sure why, but a bunch of shows this week decided to double-down on episodes, like sprinters diving for the seasonal finish lines. Defiance was one of these, so my review covers both Bottom Of The World and Doll Parts, episodes ten and eleven respectively.
Last week was a low point for the season because of the way that the main story arcs appear to be being ignored. But it’s not just that, it’s the way that Nolan realises what a threat the engineered creature inside Irisa is, but crosses his fingers and hopes that she’ll work it out herself. Luckily in these two stories he eventually works out that being an optimist isn’t sufficient to fight Ark-brain tech, and it...

Robin Williams, beloved actor and comedian, took his own life yesterday. He was 63. Rather than post a drippy and maudlin obituary, it’s preferable — especially when it comes to comedians — to remember their comedy and remember the laughs. These are our favorite stand-up moments from his celebrated career.
1. Robin Williams roasts Richard Pryor. If comedy were a religion, Richard Pryor, George Carlin and Lenny Bruce would be the Father, Son and Holy Ghost. When Pryor was roasted in 1977, Robin Williams was one of his roastees. In hindsight, this makes perfect sense, but at the time Williams was far from established. He was known in the comedy circuit but was still a few years away from Happy Days and Mork & Mindy. Williams’ set was brief, only two minutes, but in those two minutes he essentially stole the show. (Skip to 3:35 for Williams directly, though Marsha Warfield’s set was great also.

Unfortunately, unless Hulu comes through with an 11th hour save, there won’t be six season seasons and a movie. Truly this is the darkest timeline, but that doesn’t mean we can’t look back and appreciate what we once had: a clever, self-aware show that had as much heart as it did side-splitting hilarity.
Inevitably it’s hard to narrow down the 20 funniest moments from a show that had so many: Community had jokes layered with jokes, so even during repeat viewings there was often something new to enjoy. Yes, Community truly was a show that was too beautiful for this world, but it’s amazing the show lasted as long as it did. Rapid fire comedy isn’t for everyone, and while the in-joke humor is what created the hardcore fanbase that Community had, it also alienated casual fans and advertisers.
Frustrations and sadness aside, this...
