Exclusive: Lionsgate’s John Wick spinoff Ballerina starring Ana de Armas will be delayed a year from June 7, 2024 to June 6, 2025. The move comes as John Wick architect Chad Stahelski has inked a new deal with Lionsgate to oversee the franchise. He’s working with Ballerina director Len Wiseman on additional action sequences for the movie, to amp it up even more than it is.
Advance tracking is already hot on Ballerina, Lionsgate just wants to make the feature, produced by Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee’s Thunder Road even better. Currently, the Ballerina stands alone on her new summer 2025 date.
Now, there’s nothing for exhibition to fret, for the Rupert Sanders’ redux of The Crow will be taking over Ballerina‘s summer date of June 7 this year. Bill Skarsgård takes on the iconic role of The Crow in this modern reimagining of the original graphic novel by James O’Barr.

“The Beta Test,” the critically-acclaimed indie about the intersection of toxicity in Hollywood and digital culture, has unveiled an anxiety-ridden first trailer.
The IFC Films title, which played the Berlin International Film Festival this year and sits at 100% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, stars Jim Cummings, who wrote and directed the film with Pj McCabe.
The satire follows an engaged talent rep who accepts a mysterious offer to engage in a consensual and anonymous sexual encounter — only to face severe repercussions as his work and home life fall apart in the aftermath. The filmmakers called the project a dark thriller about the problematic nature of the entertainment industry and humanity’s willingness to jeopardize our happiness in small and constant decisions.
The film asks the question “In the age of internet consumerism and digital tracking, does anyone truly have privacy? And can we ever truly rest without having all the answers?...

Indie director Jim Cummings and co-star Pj McCabe have made a scornful part-thriller about an unctuous agent in thrall to the system
Writer-director-actor Jim Cummings’ has already made two films, Thunder Road and The Wolf of Snow Hollow, which were very well received on the American indie circuit. His latest, The Beta Test, co-written and directed with its co-star Pj McCabe, is part delicious satire of Hollywood culture and part frustratingly muddled thriller. But the good bits are sufficiently impressive it wouldn’t be fair to hold its flaws against it too much. We mustn’t be greedy for perfection.
Greed, as it happens, is probably the major sin of a Tinseltown agent called Jordan (played by Cummings), followed closely by lust, wrath, pride and envy. Given his rigorously gym-toned figure it would seem that Jordan is less guilty of gluttony or sloth, but there’s probably more than enough...

Everyone notices the eyes first, languid, those of a somnambulist. Robert Mitchum, calm and observant, is a presence that, through passivity, enamors a viewer. His face is as effulgent as moonlight. The man smolders, with that boozy, baritone voice, seductive and soporific, a cigarette perched between wispy lips below which is a chin cleft like a geological fault. He’s slithery with innuendo. There’s an effortless allure to it all, a mix of malaise and braggadocio, a cocksure machismo and a hint of fragility. He’s ever-cool, a paradox, “radiating heat without warmth,” as Richard Brody said. A poet, a prodigious lover and drinker, a bad boy; his penchant for marijuana landed him in jail, and in the photographs from his two-month stay he looks like a natural fit. He sits, wrapped in denim, legs spread wide, hair shiny and slick, holding a cup of coffee. His mouth is...

There’s nothing like a good car chase in a movie. Maybe it’s the daring-do of the stunt drivers that makes you feel you’re in danger even though you’re comfortably in your seat, or the high stakes of the moment in which the characters we’re rooting for will either get out of the situation or have a gruesome finale, but an impressive car-chase scene can make even a mediocre movie a beloved classic. What makes a car chase legendary, you ask? They’re the ones that keep you at the edge of your seat and actually fit in with the rest of the plot.

As we creep along to the midway point of Summer, this can only mean one thing at the multiplex (aside from added matinees): another installment of a big studio franchise (formerly a series) will be occupying several screens. We’ve already had a new Alien, and another Depp pirate pic as the Planet Apes and Transformers wait in the wings, along with that wall-crawling wonder. I suppose we’re due for an animated sequel, but this one’s from the most celebrated studio of the last couple of decades, Pixar. Aside from Toy Story, they avoided follow-ups to their other hit films until 2011 when the Cars gang refueled for Cars 2. Then one of the other hits got a prequel, Monster University, and another spawned last year’s box office smash, Finding Dory. Now here’s the automotive, track-burnin’ “hat trick” as good ole’ number 95, Lightning McQueen roars back...

Bruce Springsteen borrowed the title for his 1975 song “Thunder Road” from a 1958 Robert Mitchum movie, and since then it’s been borrowed back for a couple of TV movies. But filmmaker Jim Cummings not only took the title for his short film that won the Grand Prize at Sundance this year, he based his film around a performance of the Springsteen song, and even wrangled permission to use the song from the always-picky rock star. “Thunder Road,” one of the finalists in TheWrap’s ShortList Film Festival, is an alternately funny and wrenching story about a cop (played by Cummings...

In 1961, a 14-year-old Steven Spielberg produced and directed one of this first short films, the ominously named “Escape to Nowhere.” In the opening sequence to the movie, a title card reads “Produced and Directed by Steve Spielberg” before one of the first shots that states the setting is “Somewhere in East Africa.”
There is no dialogue in the two-minute clip that has surfaced online, just battle scenes that play to the sound of Richard Wagner’s “Ride of the Valkyries.” (Something tells us Spielberg was not able to license the rights to the music.) Spielberg’s sister Anne Spielberg is the only person credited in the cast on IMDb, which states that the entire short is 40 minutes long.
Though the production value is exactly what one would expect from a teenage filmmaker, Spielberg’s eye for dramatic action scenes and swiftly-paced editing are apparent even at this young age. “Escape...

Deadline reports that Thunder Road Pictures — the company behind movies like The Town and Sicario — has acquired a spec script titled Trigger Warning that's described as a female-led mix between Rambo and another Thunder Road action thriller, John Wick, in which "the reluctant heroine reveals herself in a small town."
A History of Violence writer Josh Olson and The Game scribe John Brancato (who also penned Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and Terminator Salvation) wrote the script. As the outlet points out, gender-bent twists on traditional plots are en vogue right now with Ghostbusters and the upcoming Ocean's Eight, so this fits in alongside those pretty well. I just hope Ronda Rousey doesn't end up starring in it. I'd love to see someone with some legitimate acting ability take on a role like this (sorry, Ronda).

Thunder Road – the production company that most recently delivered John Wick and Sicario – has snapped up a spec script written by Josh Olson (A History Of Violence) and John Brancato (Terminator: Salvation), titled Trigger Warning. The film is an original action tale with a female hero at its centre – and its development ensures the chance of women-oriented stories beyond the planned remakes and re-boots of male-led movies.
Little is known about the specific plot of Trigger Warning but, unsurprisingly, it is described in broad terms through comparison to well-known male-led movies. This is almost unavoidable, since the genre has historically been dominated by male-centric tales and so, Trigger Warning is characterised as a female Rambo: First Blood, with a dash of John Wick thrown in.
The significance of this project cannot be overstated. There has, for some time, been an increasingly vocal call for better female representation in leading roles in movies,...

"John Wick" and "Sicario" producers Thunder Road are assembling the action thriller "Smoke on the Water" which Basil Iwanyk and Kent Kubena will produce.
The script by Trey Callaway ("I Still Know What You Did Last Summer") and Rick Parks ("Ever After") deals with the worlds of offshore boat racing, high-tech open water drug trafficking and the so-called 'nautical narcotic highway' from Cuba to Key West.
The film has more of a "Fast and Furious" than "Sicario"-style tone of energetic and fun action, and will reportedly make good use of the still cinematically untapped world of Cuba as a filming location.
Thunder Road is currently developing "Gang Story" with Liam Neeson, "A Star is Born" with Bradley Cooper and "Splinter Cell" with Tom Hardy.
