The Columbia film, Nightfall, opened in Chicago on Wednesday, February 20, 1957, at the Roosevelt theatre (State nr Washington), an ad reads: "Adventure races to a climax at . . . Nightfall"; it was shown as the bottom-half of a double-bill; the top-half featured The Big Land, with Alan Ladd, Virginia Mayo and Edmund O'Brien. The film played two weeks.

1949 Novel Will Be Basis for Copa Productions Movie-- Raphael Hayes Scenarist

Hollywood, Calif., July 5--Copa Productions, the Tyrone Power-Ted Richmond producing company, is preparing a film version of the novel "Nightfall," written by David Goodis and published in 1949.
Raphael Hayes, brother of Alfred Hayes, the novelist and scenarist, will write the screen play. It will deal with a commercial artist traveling by automobile from Chicago to New York who is tricked by three supposed victims of an auto accident into helping them in a bank robbery.
Edmond O'Brien and Barry Sullivan are being considered for the role of the artist. Barbara Stanwyck read the novel and "likes it," according to Mr. Richmond. Negotiations with the actress have been delayed pending her recovery from a back injury sustained in a fall last week. Copa, which releases through Columbia, expects to start the film in September.
