Honest Cops, Dishonest Lawyers

Norman Foster is a smart young detective engaged to Judith Allen, the daughter of his lieutenant, Purnell Pratt. She's a lawyer, but has agreed to marry him when he makes Lieutenant. When he does, however, her boss, crooked lawyer Sidney Blackmer has made her the attorney on a murder committed by jeweler Theodore von Eltz. Can Foster take down Blackmer and von Eltz, and still get the girl?

It's a nice little tale of honest cops versus crooked lawyers, with a cast that includes Ford Sterling doing a Dutch accent, Edward Gargan, and J. Carroll Naish. Director Christy Cabanne directs with an occasionally humorous touch, and has DP Jack Marta move the camera to keep the compositions going. It's no world beater, but a pretty good Poverty Row movie.
