Cole Mitchell Sprouse was born in Arezzo, Tuscany, Italy to American parents, Melanie (Wright) and Matthew Sprouse, and was raised with his older identical twin Dylan Sprouse in Long Beach, in their parents' native California. Cole began his acting career alongside Dylan at the tender age of six months. From 1993 to 1998 the twins shared the role of Patrick Kelly on ABC's hit series Grace Under Fire (1993), soon booking them as Julian in Adam Sandler's box office hit, Big Daddy (2000). That same month, their second feature film, The Astronaut's Wife (1999), starring Johnny Depp and Charlize Theron, was also released. After that, Cole began starring alongside his twin in their own half-hour sitcom on the Disney Channel, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody (2005). After wrapping his sixth year of this program, Cole chose to attend NYU and remain absent from entertainment until he finished his college education in 2015, graduating with honors. The graduate soon booked the role of Jughead on Riverdale (2017), becoming a fan favorite, and then starred as Will Newman in the box office hit Five Feet Apart (2019), which was one of the highest-grossing non-genre teen movies of the 2010s.

Since 2001, he has worked steadily on major film, television, and advertising productions as a 1st and 2nd Assistant Director, contributing to notable international productions such as HBO's Rome, Spike Lee's Miracle at St. Anna, Rob Marshall's musical Nine, Jane Campion's Bright Star, Ron Howard's Inferno, Fernando Meirelles' The Two Popes, and Christopher McQuarrie's Mission Impossible 7.

In parallel, he has continued collaborating with prominent Italian filmmakers such as Dario Argento, Alessandro Baricco, Cristina Comencini, Paola Cortellesi, Emanuele Crialese, Marco Tullio Giordana, Luca Guadagnino, Paolo Sorrentino, and Franco Zeffirelli. He also supported Giovanna Mezzogiorno in her directorial debut with the short film Unfitting, produced by Bvlgari and presented at the Rome Film Festival in 2023.

He also works as an Assistant Director in high-profile advertising and music video productions, including the music video Turn Up the Radio by American singer Madonna, and various fashion films for international brands such as Gucci, Bvlgari, Burberry, Diesel, Fendi, Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Armani, and Valentino, collaborating with iconic directors in the field, including Floria Sigismondi, Mert & Marcus, Mario Sorrenti, Charlotte Wales, Max Siedentopf, and Tom Munro.

Very interested in social issues, he has worked in projects about several topics: safety at work, with the social campaign Per me la Sicurezza è... (For Me Safety is...) produced by INAIL; dyslexia, with the documentary Come una macchia di cioccolato (Like the Stain of Chocolate), produced by AID; detention, with the documentary Oggi voglio parlare (Today I want to Talk), produced by Regione Toscana.

In 2015 he founded his production company Advaita Film Srl, and produced a multimedia package displayed at the Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore Museum, Florence, curated by Mons. Timothy Verdon, among which is La Volta del Cielo (The Vault of Heaven), a documentary about Brunelleschi and the Cupola of Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral.

In 2016 Gianmarco produced and directed his first independent film, the documentary Camminando sull'acqua (Walking on Water), about the tragic events of November 4, 1966, when a flood devastated Florence, with outstanding and unreleased color footage. The film has been selected to more than 45 international film festivals, winning several awards, including Best Director, Best Documentary and Audience Choice Award. The film has been broadcasted by Italian network Mediaset and the Swiss RSI.

In 2017 Advaita Film Srl produced for the Fondazione CR Firenze, the corporate documentary and advertising La nostra Storia parla di Futuro (Our History Talks about the Future), to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Foundation. During the same year, for the Fondazione Parchi Monumentali Bardini e Peyron, the advertising for the Bardini Villa and Garden has been produced.

In 2018 Advaita Film Srl produced the documentary Tutto il Mondo, Piano Piano (The Whole World, One Step at a Time) and the advertising Portiamo la Scuola dove non c'è! (Bringing Schools to Where There Are None!) for the Italian NGOs Il Filodijuta and Pang'ono Pang'ono, that are bringing schools, health care and clean water to the south of Bangladesh. The one minute advertising has been awarded in several film festivals worldwide, winning the prestigious "Best Social Film" at the United Nations in Geneva.

For the Uffizi Galleries, Gianmarco created, produced and directed two multi-vision installations for two exhibitions curated by the archeologists Lorenza Camin and Fabrizio Paolucci. A Cavallo del Tempo (Riding through the Time), for the exhibition set up at the Boboli Garden in Florence (26 June - 14 October 2018), is a 300 square meters large projection about the art of horse riding, from antiquity to the Middle Ages. This video art has been awarded as "Most Original Film" and "Best Global Film" at the Equus International Film Festival in Montana, USA, which is the most important festival about film and horses in the world. Ai Piedi degli Dei (Worn by the Gods), for the exhibition set up at Palazzo Pitti in Florence (17 December 2019 - 20 September 2020), is an immersive projection about the art of shoe making in the ancient world, the epic movie and contemporary fashion.

In 2020 Gianmarco has consolidated his relationship of trust with the most important museum institutions in Florence.

For the Archdiocese of Florence, together with Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore, he produced and directed the documentary Rinascenza come Resurrectio: il Santo Sepolcro di Leon Battista Alberti nella Firenze del Quattrocento (Renaissance as Resurrection: Leon Battista Alberti's Holy Sepulcher in Fifteenth-Century Florence), written and narrated by Mons. Timothy Verdon.

For the Bargello Museums he wrote (with the novelist and screenwriter Matteo Bortolotti), produced and directed the short movie Il Bambino che sarà Cavaliere (The Boy who would become a Knight), featuring animations by Dario Imbrogno, on permanent display at the Museum of Palazzo Davanzati.

Gianmarco is producing the documentary Florence, the Consul and Me, that will tell the story of the director's quest on the trails of Gerhard Wolf, the German consul in Florence during WWII who risked his life to save Florence from Nazi fury. The project has been granted the Development Fund by Creative Europe and the Production Fund by Toscana Film Commission.
