It is a portrait. correct, fair, moving in few scenes. but dry. because, like many Catholic films, it gives lessons. it presents the hero. like a statue. Pope Francis is kind, spiritual, courageous, wise, free. but not alive. something missing. something essential. and between the pope Francis from the news and the pope by Dario Grandinetti is a too large distance. sure, it is an artistic film , not a documentary. but this is motif for give to the lead character its own identity. because it could be a film about any pope life, from John Paul II to Benedict XVI. sure, it is a religious film. its target is more precise. but, it could be more than a decent film. this is all.
