New Delhi, June 15 (Ians) Punjab batter Mandeep Singh was on Thursday named as skipper of North Zone side for the Duleep Trophy, while Gujarat opener Priyank Panchal has been made the captain of the West Zone team.

Alongside Panchal, Prithvi Shaw, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad are the other openers in the West Zone team. Other prominent squad members include Harvik Desai, Sarfaraz Khan, Arpit Vasavada, Atit Sheth, Shams Mulani, Chetan Sakariya and Arzan Nagwaswalla.

Ahmedabad, Dec 2 (Ians) Veteran Sheldon Jackson’s fantastic unbeaten 133 not out overshadowed Ruturaj Gaikwad’s 108 as Saurashtra beat Maharashtra by five wickets in the final, here on Friday, to win the Vijay Hazare Trophy for the first time since their title triumph in 2008.

Continuing his superb form, Ruturaj hit his third century on the trot and overall four from five games in the 2022 edition of the tournament, but he didn’t get ample support from other batters Maharashtra posted a total of 248/9 in their 50 overs.

Chasing a par total, Jackson and Harvik Desai (50) stitched an opening partnership of 125 runs to put Maharashtra on the backfoot. Both openers looked in brilliant touch and scored boundaries at regular intervals to bring their century stand in 21 overs. New Delhi, Nov 30 (Ians) Maharashtra, Saurashtra reached the final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy after registering wins over Assam, Karnataka in their respective semifinals on Wednesday.

While Maharashtra beat Assam by 12 runs in a high-scoring contest to reach their maiden Vijay Hazare final, Saurashtra registered a comfortable five-wicket win over Karnataka in the other semifinal.

Rajkot, Oct 2 (Ians) A superb all-round performance by Saurabh Kumar helped the Rest of India (Roi) take control of the Irani Cup 2022 match on the second day against hosts and defending champions Saurashtra at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, here on Sunday.

Saurabh first hit a brilliant fifty (55) to push Roi’s lead beyond 250 and then claimed both Saurashtra wickets that fell in the closing minutes of play in a stellar spell of 4-4-0-2. Saurashtra were 49-2 in their second innings at stumps on Day 2, trailing by 227 runs.

Earlier, both overnight batters, Sarfraz Khan (138) and skipper Hanuma Vihari (82) missed out on the respective milestones after Chirag Jani sent them packing in the morning session.

Rest of India were 205-3 in their innings, leading by 107 runs at stumps on Day 1 after bowling out Saurashtra for just 98 in the first innings.

New Delhi, Sep 4 (Ians) All-rounder Shardul Thakur has replaced injured Prasidh Krishna in the India ‘A’ squad for the ongoing three-match series against New Zealand ‘A’ team, being played in Bengaluru.

Down with back spasms, the 26-year-old Krishna did not play in the first four-day test that started on Thursday.

After his inclusion into the India ‘A’ squad, Thakur had to be pulled out of the West Zone squad for the Duleep Trophy in which he had earlier been named, a Cricbuzz report said.

Left-arm pacer Chetan Sakariya of Saurashtra has been named in Thakur’s place in the zonal squad. Rajkot, Dec 25 (Ians) Fast bowler Jaydev Unadkat will captain Saurashtra in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 Tournament, the Saurashtra Cricket Association (Sca) said as they announced the team for the tournament on Friday.

Apart from Unadkat, the team also includes Arpit Vasavada, Harvik Desai and Chirag Jani, all of whom played an integral role in Saurashtra's Ranji Trophy victory last season.

The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy is slated to begin on January 10 and Saurashtra are placed in Group D along with Services, Vidarbha, Goa, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Their matches will be played in Indore. Saurashtra's first match of the season will be against Services on January 10.

The quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final of the tournament shall be played in Ahmedabad from January 26.
