Alone season 5 remixed things in a different way with familiar cast members and a new setting. This was needed after the very weird Alone season 4. The “coming in heavy advantage” helped season 1 runner up Sam Larson win because he started heavier than everyone else. The untested setting of Khonin Nuga, Mongolia, truly one of the world’s unexplored areas, was well received. The fact that contestants couldn’t use fire-starting devices was another positive twist.
