Josh Hutcherson is treating fans to a second serving at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza.
As he prepares to enter production on the upcoming sequel in New Orleans, the Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 star said that “fans are gonna flip” for the follow-up to director Emma Tammi‘s 2023 feature adaptation of the popular horror video game series.
“It’s much bigger; the stakes are higher,” Hutcherson told Esquire. “There’s more animatronics being brought in, different animatronics being brought in, and the world just opens up in a big way.”
Fnaf stars Hutcherson as Mike Schmidt, a troubled security guard who begins working at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. While spending his first night on the job, he realizes the night shift at Freddy’s won’t be as easy a gig as he thought.

The Five Nights at Freddy’s video game series has captivated horror fans for nearly a decade with its mysterious lore and terrifying robotic antagonists. Into the Pit, the latest installment, takes players on a harrowing adventure through pixelated 1980s pizzeria.
We join young Oswald, who finds himself transported back in time after exploring an abandoned ball pit. His discovery sets in motion a dark chain of events that sees Oswald’s father abducted by the sinister Spring Bonnie.
Oswald now must brave both past and present to rescue his dad, navigating two time periods that harbor growing dangers. In 1985, the pizza venue welcomes Oswald before its horrors are known, while present-day finds the place deserted yet still haunted. Oswald must outwit mechanized monsters from both eras. All the while, a mysterious killer rabbit remains always near, willing to stuff even more children into frightening costumes.
Can Oswald succeed where so many have failed before?...

Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament is back. While studios during Covid wildly embraced the theatrical day-and-date model when cinemas were closed, they soon realized there’s nothing more profitable than a theatrical release and the downstreams that come with it. If anything, theatrical is the advertisement for a movie’s longevity in subsequent home entertainment windows. Entering the conversation in 2023 were the streamers, such as Apple, who have also realized the necessity of theatrical to eventize their movies. The financial data pulled together here for Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster Tournament is culled by seasoned and trusted sources.

Listen close! Follow my instructions. There is no time for introductions. The score for "Five Nights at Freddy's" is officially getting the vinyl treatment from iam8bit, and these albums are going to go fast. Officially licensed with Blumhouse and Universal Pictures, the "Five Nights at Freddy's" score contains the music from The Newton Brothers as featured in the smash-hit film adaptation of the ridiculously popular video game series. If you're reading this, you probably already know that and don't need me to explain why "FNaF" is so popular, so I won't waste your time. For the rest of you, here's your homework.
The "Five Nights at Freddy's" soundtrack comes on red vinyl, but it's not just any red vinyl, it's specifically "Pizza Party Red." What does that mean, exactly? Well, it's the color of red many associate with those perfect plastic cups from places like Pizza Hut in the 1980s and 1990s,...

Spoilers for "Five Nights at Freddy's" follow.
The old Hollywood adage, "Pain is temporary, film is forever," is normally reserved for the on-set hardships endured while filming swords-and-sandals epics like "Gladiator" or the sprawling "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. Now, it seems that turn of phrase could also apply to this year's highest-grossing horror film, "Five Nights at Freddy's."
Based on the immensely popular video game series created by Scott Cawthon, "FNaF" (for short) became an online phenomenon mostly due to viral videos of YouTube influencers playing the liminal horror game that's carefully designed to produce as many jump scares as humanly possible. Set in the fictional kids restaurant Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, "FNaF" harkens back to a time when full-size animatronic bands like Showbiz Pizza's Rock-afire Explosion entertained (and slightly terrified) children of all ages.
To recreate the baked-in tactile terror of these supposedly amiable monstrosities, "Five Nights at Freddy's...

While several big-budget movies have experienced quite a bit of trouble at the box office both this year and since the pandemic first started in general, one genre continues to stay afloat consistently: horror. And when such movies are geared toward younger audiences and inspired by source material with a rabid fanbase to begin with? Well, that's when you know you probably have a hit on your hands.
That's exactly what happened with "Five Nights at Freddy's," the movie based on the cult video game franchise that promptly smashed box office records the weekend of its release. Not even a thorough critical lashing could stop this runaway hit in its tracks, adding another appropriately irreverent layer to a phenomenon that's likely to become a gateway film for young horror fans everywhere. In Emma Tammi's new horror film "Five Nights at Freddy's," based on the popular video game series, a night watchman (Josh Hutcherson) is stalked through a disused, 1980s pizza restaurant/arcade called Freddy Fazbear's by the restaurant's animatronic animal band. By the all-too-complex mythology of the film, taken from the games, the animatronics have been brought to life by the souls of missing children, kidnapped and murdered by an evil stalker in a yellow bunny costume. It's best not to delve too deeply into the "FNaF" canon, as it gets very complicated very quickly. Focus on the fact that people are being stalked and killed by robotic Chuck E. Cheese-style pizza mascots, and you'll be on surer footing.
The Freddy Fazbear's band consists of the bear Freddy (Kevin Foster), the chicken Chica (Jessica Weiss), the red fox Foxy (voiced by Kellen Goff), and the blue rabbit Bonnie (Jade Kindar-Martin). Kindar-Martin,...

Today, Universal/Blumhouse’s Five Nights at Freddy‘s is clocking past the $100M domestic mark, a box office milestone for the studio when it comes to its experimental theatrical day-and-date releases on its Peacock streaming service.
That’s not only the highest that Uni has seen from a pic that’s been distributed via such means at the box office, but it’s also per the conglom the most viewed movie or series ever for the Ott paid service in its first five days, outstripping the debuts of Halloween Ends, The Super Mario Bros. Emma Tammi's "Five Nights at Freddy's," an adaptation of the popular video game series that began in 2014, has already raked in a great deal of box office lucre, making over $132 million on a modest $20 million budget in its first weekend of release. This, despite also being released on Peacock on the same day. It seems that the game's reputation preceded it, and the film was attended by many, many "Freddy's" fans eager to see the wicked animatronic Freddy Fazzbear commit acts of violence.
The film follows a beleaguered night watchman (Josh Hutcherson) who is hired to guard a kid's pizza palace, abandoned since the 1980s. There is still electricity in the building, however, and the animatronic band still operates ... and walks around the restaurant of their own volition. Freddy Fazbear and his creepy animatronic buddies are lighting up the box office, as Universal/Blumhouse’s “Five Nights at Freddy’s” is setting multiple industry records with its $78 million domestic/$130 million global opening weekend.
Not only is it more than double the highest opening seen on Halloween weekend and the largest opening for a film releasing day-and-date on home platforms, but it has also topped the 2018 revival of “Halloween” to become the best opening ever for Blumhouse.
While its numbers aren’t as high as “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” “Barbie,” or “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour,” “Five Nights at Freddy’s” is enjoying the same kind of strong hardcore fan turnout as all three of those 2023 box office hits.

This article contains spoilers for "Five Nights at Freddy's."
"Why do kids like 'Five Nights at Freddy's' so much?" This is a question I've gotten a lot over the last few months, as many adults rightfully see the uncanny horrors of killer animatronics. Meanwhile, younger fans are begging for Freddy Fazbear stuffies and one of the over 80 different Funko Pop releases. As frightening as they are, there's something weirdly cute and comforting about these mechanical monsters, because the innocence of what's inside the animatronics creeps through the terror.
The lore of "Five Nights at Freddy's" is pretty twisted, with the villainous William Afton murdering children and stuffing their corpses inside the animatronic machines. This means that as Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy shuffle around the pizzeria, they're doing so with the remnants of dead children. But in a heartfelt turn, the live-action adaptation has allowed the animatronics to maintain...

The "Five Nights At Freddy's" game franchise and its feature film adaptation share the same basic premise: would you, either as a game player or in the audience proxy guise of Mike Schmidt (Josh Hutcherson) in the film, take a night job as a security guard in an abandoned '80-style kids entertainment establishment, a la Chuck E Cheese or ShowBiz Pizza? Furthermore, the premise assumes that the "Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria" restaurant was a successful venture in its heyday, with its original animatronic characters putting on a faux-concert of the latest '80s pop hits while "interacting" in real-time with the guests.
All of that lore nearly completely flies out the window when one actually sees what Freddy, Chica, and their other robot friends actually look like: these things are creepy looking from the jump! And that's before they become possessed by the spirits (not to mention the decomposing bodies) of murdered children,...

One of the best decisions the creatives behind Blumhouse's "Five Nights at Freddy's" film adaptation (read /Film's review) made was hiring Jim Henson's Creature Shop to manufacture its merrily murderous mascot animatronics as real-life puppets and not CGI creations. Both the movie and the original video games take place at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, a Chuck E. Cheese-style family entertainment center populated by giant animatronics who like to sneak around and murder people under the cover of night. It would be one thing if Mr. Fazbear and his friends were obviously computer-animated in the film. But the fact they're as tactile as the flesh-and-blood humans they're stalking makes the horror of the situation that much more immediate and perceptible.

Pizza, a security guard, and – most importantly – homicidal robots are key elements of Universal Pictures and Blumhouse’s Five Nights at Freddy’s, based on the popular video game.
Five Nights focuses on Mike Schmidt (Josh Hutcherson), a former mall security guard who was recently fired for beating up the father of a little boy who he mistakenly thought was a stranger trying to kidnap the child. Mike can’t really be faulted; he’s haunted by the memory of witnessing his little brother being kidnapped when he was 12.
Desperate to find another job to retain custody of his 10-year-old sister Abby (Piper Rubio), Mike reluctantly accepts the job of overnight security guard at the closed, formerly family-friendly restaurant Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria. The restaurant was extremely popular in the 1980s (think Chuck E. Cheese) but...

The success of the Super Mario Bros. Movie in 2023 is a hell of a thing. It took so many years for Hollywood to realize that just taking one of the most popular video game franchises ever and translating it to the movie screen in the most basic way can net them a ton of money. They figured this out with comic books years ago, but only now are they realizing that maybe you can use that same strategy with games instead of giving a middle-aged man a silly haircut and claiming he’s supposed to be Bowser.
Now in the latter half of the year, we get a video game movie from the other side of the spectrum. Instead of video games’ golden boy, it’s the little indie series that could. Five Nights at Freddy’s, an inexpensive breakout gaming hit from nine years ago, has a movie coming out...

The latest horror film from Blumhouse concerns a security guard tasked with safeguarding a long-shuttered family-themed pizza restaurant whose giant animatronic animal characters spring to life and go on murderous rampages.
And that’s the most credible element of the story.
Based on, what else, a hugely successful video game franchise, Five Nights at Freddy’s, premiering simultaneously in theaters and on Peacock, never quite figures out what it wants to be. It seems to be aiming for cult status, but isn’t nearly transgressive enough to achieve it. It promises a gore fest, but keeps the violence sanitized enough to secure a PG-13 rating. And rather than expand on the sort of mayhem contained in the video game experience, it provides a tragic backstory that seeks to provide emotional depth but instead just slows the proceedings to a crawl. The ultimate result is a snooze.

The weekend before Halloween is set to be a good one for the box office with the debut of Universal/Blumhouse’s “Five Nights at Freddy’s,” a horror film based on the indie video game series that has blown by exhibitors’ expectations for ticket presales despite its day-and-date release on Peacock.
Independent projections for “Five Nights at Freddy’s” are predicting an opening weekend of at least $50 million. But theater owners who spoke with TheWrap say there’s huge upside for the film and the potential for a launch as high as $80 million.
Those optimistic predictions should be taken with a lot of salt — exhibitors were predicting $100 million-plus figures for “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” that the still successful concert film didn’t reach — but the consensus within the industry is that “Five Nights” has a good shot of beating the $49.4 million opening of “Halloween Kills,” which also opened day-and-date on Peacock in 2021.

Nearly a decade ago, Scott Cawthon’s point-and-click survival game Five Nights at Freddy’s was released into the world and became an instant hit, thanks to its effective jump scare delivery system via killer animatronics and engaging lore. The concept practically begged for a feature adaptation, and so did the video game series’ loyal fanbase. It’s finally here, with Cawthon producing and sharing co-writing duties with Seth Cuddeback and director Emma Tammi to ensure a faithful adaptation. While seeing this world and its killer characters on screen might be enough to appease the fanbase, don’t expect the same level of visceral scares.

In the new film version of the popular video game Five Nights At Freddy’s, it is the Jim Henson Creature Shop and its talented puppeteers and character actors who are the real stars of this Blumhouse take on the game that the under-25 male set particularly warmed up to since its debut in 2014. Whether they will be happy with this carefully constructed but safe PG-13 movie that sacrifices hard-core horror for character development and that at times just drags along, time will tell.
In case you aren’t familiar with the game franchise created by Scott Cawthorn, Five Nights At Freddy’s is a phenomenon in the sector, having hatched nine different games to date, several spinoffs, a novel trilogy and an anthology series all for the love of Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy the Pirate, 70foot-tall animatronic creatures who are capable of violence or love depending who is in the room with them.

When "Five Nights at Freddy's" creator Scott Cawthon first began advertising his new game, only three animatronics were displayed — Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie the Bunny, and Chica the Chicken. The reason behind the decision was to add to the scare factor of the game, catching players off guard when suddenly a pirate fox with a hook for a hand came sprinting down the halls of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. It was extremely effective, and given the character's different design from the main three, many fans find Foxy to be the scariest of the original animatronics. Foxy is somewhat of a lone wolf (err ... fox) compared to the rest, performing in a special themed area called "Pirate's Cove" rather than with the rest of the band on the main stage. Because of this, he also sports a distinct, dilapidated pirate look.

When the trailer for "Five Nights at Freddy's" first dropped, fans were shocked to see not just security guard Mike Schmidt, but also a little girl, his sister, Abby. It was doubly peculiar to see a scene of the small girl catching a cab with Golden Freddy, and not looking at all like someone terrified of a haunted animatronic killing machine. In fact, Abby looks delighted to be hanging out with the oversized robo-bear, which mirrored the young actor's real-life experience on set.

Murderous animatronic mascots are disconcerting and all, but everyone knows that's not the scariest part of "Five Nights at Freddy's." No, the true horror of the mega-popular multimedia franchise is the prospect of ... having to search for a new job (shudder). The days start to blur together when you're unemployed, at least when you're not worrying about how to pay your monthly utility bills or whether you can actually afford to buy groceries this week. It's also why once you lock down your latest gig, it's hard to want to give it up, even if it does entail working the night shift at a crumbling family entertainment center where your co-workers are prone to committing homicide for funsies.
One presumes that's the same reason Mike Schmidt (Josh Hutcherson) ignores all the red flags upon being hired to operate as the late-night security guard at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza in the "Five Nights at Freddy's" movie.

Did you know that the "Five Nights at Freddy's" trailer features more than one version of Freddy Fazbear? That's right. The Freddy that is shown on stage ready to sing with Bonnie, Foxy, and Chica is not the same Freddy shown in the back seat with Abby Schmidt (Piper Rubio). That Freddy is known as Golden Freddy and is a completely different character with different motivations. I know, unless you've dedicated years of your life to making sense of the lore, this might not be the easiest thing to follow. The best way I can explain it is that Golden Freddy is like ... a limited edition version of Freddy Fazbear.

Spooky season is well underway, which means now is the time when people start consuming anything with even a hint of pumpkin spice flavoring, marathoning horror movies, and preparing for the upcoming new horror releases. After over eight years of waiting, Universal and Blumhouse are finally debuting the film adaptation of "Five Nights at Freddy's," the Josh Hutcherson and Matthew Lillard-starring horror film based on Scott Cawthon's massively popular video game franchise of the same name. Those unfamiliar with the series might assume the game is just "Chuck E. Cheese or ShowBiz Pizza Place, but make it horror," but there is so much more to this terrifying world.
For one thing, the animatronics are walking around and causing chaos because they're inhabited by the souls of murdered children. For another, there are well over 1,000 characters in the entire "FNaF" series, and there are multiple variations of the main four characters.

We're reaching a point where movie studios are willing to invest a little more in video game adaptations, leading to big-budget tentpoles like "The Super Mario Bros. Movie," "Uncharted," "Gran Turismo," and the TV series "The Last of Us." Video game flicks have always existed, dating back to 1993's poorly received "Super Mario Bros." with Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo. Still, this new phase feels different, like producers have finally caught wind of the massive audiences behind these titles.
Hence, the reason for the "Five Nights at Freddy's" movie.
Based on the popular video game of the same name, itself a YouTube sensation, "Freddy's" arrives with plenty of talent attached, notably producer Jason Blum and a cast that includes Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, and Matthew Lillard. Fans of the popular "Five Nights at Freddy's" series have been waiting a long time for the film adaptation, eight years to be exact. With animatronics built by the legendary Jim Henson Creature Shop and a cast that boasts names like Josh Hutcherson and Matthew Lillard, there's plenty to get excited about. But when the teaser trailer and poster for "Five Nights at Freddy's" were first released, hardcore fans were immediately on the defense. Why were the animatronics' eyes red as opposed to the piercing white glow of the video games?
The frustration is understandable. Glowing red eyes are extremely common, with Terminators and even the robots in "Wall-e" glowing red to indicate danger or a malicious override. The practice is so common that it even has its own page on TV Tropes. The white eyes of "Five Nights at Freddy's" helped set the creatures apart from their contemporaries. Freddy Fazbear of may be the leader of the animatronic nightmare party from "Five Nights at Freddy's," but Chica the chicken has always been my favorite. She's the lady of the group and her singing is a treat, but keep an eye on your pizza 'cuz she's a bird who likes to eat! Donning a "Let's Eat!" bib and a beak filled with teeth for maximum noshing, Chica's adorably terrifying appearance makes her the strongest designed member of the crew. But Chica isn't alone, as she comes with an often buck-toothed companion, an animatronic cupcake sitting on the plate she holds. Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria is a pretty popular place for children's birthday parties, so it's fitting that one of the characters would be in permanent celebration mode.
