They’re back. Rlje Films presents the Stephen King reboot Children of the Corn by Kurt Wimmer on 500+ screens. It’s a redo of the classic 1984 slasher-horror film about kids possessed by a demonic spirit in a dying cornfield, with bloody, rampaging results.
King’s iconic short story features a 12-year-old Nebraska girl who recruits the kids in her small town for a killing spree of all the adults, and anyone else who opposes her. A bright high schooler who won’t go along with the plan is the town’s only hope of survival. There are some new twists, in Wimmer’s version, the corn is genetically modified. Starring Elena Kampouris, Kate Moyer, Callan Mulvey and Bruce Spence.
The story is great, spawning numerous spinoffs beginning with Children of the Corn II: The Final Sacrifice in 1992 followed by Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest in 1995. Most went direct to video.

Horror movies about ‘influencers’ seem to be getting made more and more. If you are unsure what an influencer is exactly then a quick Google search will show you – ‘To put it simply, an influencer is any person who influences the behaviour of others. In a marketing context, influencers are individuals who collaborate with brands to promote products or services to their audience.’ Perhaps unsurprisingly, influencers in most films I have seen, come across as generally unlikeable. And that’s pretty much the case with Mean Spirited.
In the movie, a struggling YouTuber spends a few days with friends in the middle of nowhere in the hope of proven that his former friend (now a moderately famous actor) is an awful person who left him high and dry.

It appears The Baker and the Beauty‘s cancellation will stick: Efforts to find a new home for the axed ABC romantic dramedy have proven unsuccessful, TVLine has learned.
The news comes three weeks after Alphabet network cancelled the show, citing low ratings. In the immediate aftermath of the announcement, the series’ leading lady, Nathalie Kelley, condemned the decision. “Baker and the Beauty is a show that depicts Latin families as warm, lovable, full of joy and compassion and humor,” the actress said. “A cancellation by ABC means that there are now no shows on the networks with a Latinx cast.

ABC on Monday opted not to renew The Baker and the Beauty two weeks after the romantic comedy-drama based on an Israeli format finished its nine-episode freshman run.
While the original series has been one of the highest-rated scripted series ever in Israel, its U.S. adaptation did not fair as well, ranking as one of ABC’s lowest rated series this past season. But it developed a passionate core fanbase who have mounted a Save the Show campaign with a petition that has been trending and has already crossed the 60K signatures mark, as well as a fundraiser to support the effort.
Meanwhile, I hear that there are plans in the works at the company behind the series, Keshet Studios, to shop it. The Baker and the Beauty star Nathalie Kelley got fans’ hopes up following the cancellation news on Monday, tweeting that “their loss will be someone else’s gain.

Kelley’s tweet was retweeted by her Baker and the Beauty co-star Victor Rasuk.

ABC has canceled The Baker and the Beauty. The hourlong romantic comedy-drama, based on the hit Israeli format, was one of two freshman series left on the bubble by ABC after it made the bulk of its renewals and cancellations last month. The other, drama For Life, has been renewed.
Tipped as comfort-food fare that could be a good programming fit during the pandemic, The Baker and the Beauty had a tough time connecting with viewers, ranking as one of the ABC’s lowest-rated series. Its nine-episode freshman season run wrapped on June 1.
Starring Victor Rasuk and Nathalie Kelley in the title roles, the Notting Hill-esque Baker and the Beauty hails from The Brave creator Dean Georgaris, David Frankel, Keshet Studios, Universal TV and ABC Studios.

ABC has renewed the freshman legal drama “For Life” for a second season and opted not to move forward with a second season of “The Baker and the Beauty,” the network announced Monday.
Created by Hank Steinberg and produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, “For Life” debuted back in February and wrapped its freshman run last month. The series is a fictional serialized legal and family drama about an imprisoned man, Aaron Wallace, who becomes a lawyer litigating cases for other inmates while fighting to overturn his own life sentence for a crime he didn’t commit. It is inspired by the life of Isaac Wright Jr.
“The Baker and the Beauty” debuted back in April and starred Victor Rasuk and “Dynasty” alum Nathalie Kelley as a baker who falls in with an international celebrity and fashion mogul after they meet during a wild night out in Miami.

ABC’s “The Baker and the Beauty” is pretty much exactly what it sounds like: An archetype-heavy story of Daniel, an industrious young man (Victor Rasuk) and Noa, a starlet (Nathalie Kelley). After a chance meeting in Daniel’s home city of Miami, the pair engage in a romance so whirlwind that it leaves Noa’s publicist and Daniel’s ex (Michelle Veintimilla) angry at the pair for their own respective reasons. They represent the obstacles, as Daniel’s Cuban-American family generally leaves the door open to Noa, at least before certain differences of viewpoint rear their heads.
It’s all done with charm and a relatively light touch. There are enough credible reasons why this pair might actually click — among them Daniel’s relatable indecision. Bucatinsky is reliably great in the part of a nasty entertainment-biz alpha, carrying all the Hollywood baggage so Noa’s free to be lighthearted.

Netflix released the first trailer for its upcoming sci-fi series “The I-Land” on Thursday, revealing that I-Land is actually a high stakes simulation put on as some kind of survival test for its participants.
The seven-part limited series, starring Natalie Martinez and Kate Bosworth, envisions a “Hunger Games”-esque scenario where 10 people wake up on a treacherous island with no memory of who they are or how they got there.
Netflix’s official description of the show says, “They soon discover this world is not as it seems. Faced with the I-Land’s extreme psychological and physical challenges, they must rise to their better selves — or die as their worst ones.”

And guys, this sci-fi show appears to be what would happen if you combined Fyre Festival, the plot of “Lost” and a slasher movie.

ABC has picked up to series hourlong romantic comedy The Baker and the Beauty, based on the hit Israeli format. Starring Victor Rasuk and Nathalie Kelley in the title roles, the Notting Hill-esque Baker and the Beauty hails from The Brave creator Dean Georgaris, David Frankel, Keshet Studios, Universal TV and ABC Studios.
For the second time in three years, writer-creator Georgaris received two pilot orders in the same cycle this year with NBC’s Bluff City Law and ABC’s The Baker and the Beauty. In 2017, he also had pilots at NBC (The Brave) and ABC (Las Reinas) with the NBC one going to series. He did one better this year as both of his pilots went to series. To help with the load, Becky Hartman Edwards has joined The Baker and the Beauty as executive producer and co-showrunner.

Jason Michael Snow (Black Monday) is set as a series regular opposite Jane Curtin in United We Fall, ABC’s multicamera family comedy from Making History creator Julius Sharpe, Seth Gordon, Sony Pictures TV and ABC Studios. Written by Sharpe and directed by Mark Cendrowski, United We Fall is a profoundly realistic, multicultural sitcom that shows how, when two people, Bill and Jo, with young children and overzealous extended families truly love each other, barely anything is possible. Snow will play Gary, Bill’s (Tbd) super-cool, cosmopolitan, glamorous brother. Snow can currently be seen in Showtime series Black Monday and recently starred opposite Jane Krakowski, Fred Armisen, and Maya Rudolph in Fox’s A Christmas Story Live. He’s repped by Paradigm and Fourth Wall.
Adrian Martinez (No Activity) has booked a series regular role opposite Cobie Smulders in Stumptown, ABC’s drama pilot from writer Jason Richman, Ruben Fleischer and ABC Studios.

“My Frank and I can overcome anything as long as we’re together,” the very well-to-do Nancy Teagarten avers. Whether that includes going broke without their college-bound daughter or nosy neighbors knowing about it is debatable.
Here’s the first trailer for Drunk Parents, starring Alec Baldwin and Salma Hayek as the proud dad and mom who must scramble to cloak their financial implosion. Here’s the logline: Frank and Nancy Teagarten are a staunchly lower upper-class couple with a shiny black Range Rover and tasteful Tudor-style home. They couldn’t be prouder as they anxiously drop off their daughter at her first day of college. However, a visit by the repo man shortly thereafter leaves them scrambling to make ends meet, and it seems their wealth is less secure than it appears.
