The mysteries at the center of National Treasure: Edge of History will remain unsolved.

Disney+ has officially canceled its TV spinoff of the hit movie series.

Deadline first reported the news on Friday.

Lisette Alexis, Zuri Reed, Jordan Rodrigues, Antonio Cipriano, Jake Austin Walker, and Lyndon Smith starred as series regulars.

Catherine Zeta-Jones also appeared as Billie, a badass billionaire with an eye for black-market antiques. 

Movie series veteran Justin Bartha reprised the role of computer expert Riley Poole from the movies.

The series was described as an expansion of the National Treasure movie franchise told from the point of view of a young heroine, Jess (Lisette Olivera), a brilliant and resourceful DREAMer in search of answers about her family -- who embarks on the adventure of a lifetime to uncover the truth about the past and save a lost Pan-American treasure.

The cancellation isn't entirely surprising: Disney+ has failed...

Disney+ is calling off the hunt for more treasure.

The streamer has canceled its series National Treasure: Edge of History after a single season. The news comes more than two months after the 10-episode series wrapped in early February.

The show premiered in December 2022. Per usual with streaming series, detailed viewing figures aren’t available for Edge of History. It made Nielsen’s streaming rankings once during its run, tying for ninth place among original series for the week of Jan. 16-22. (It’s one of only two Disney+ original series not related to Marvel or Star Wars to make the rankings; The Santa Clauses is the other.)

“National Treasure: Edge of History” has been canceled at Disney+ after one season, Variety has confirmed.

Based on the “National Treasure” film franchise, Disney’s TV adaptation followed treasure hunter Jess Venezuela. After a stranger gives her a tip about a centuries-old treasure possibly connected to her father, she and her friends set out on the hunt. Lisette Olivera, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Zuri Reed, Antonio Cipriano, Jordan Rodrigues, Jake Austin Walker, and Lyndon Smith were among the cast.

In the season one finale, which aired in February, co-creators Marianne and Cormac Wibberley (who also wrote the first two films) closed the first installment unveiling a “National Treasure” twist. FBI Agent Hendricks (Armando Riesco) — who appeared in both “National Treasure” films and recurred on the series — revealed himself to be the Cras Est Nostrum’s Salazar, a generational title for wizard behind the curtain and had been secretly sabotaging Billie’s (Zeta-Jones) Treasure Destoyer hunts.

The treasure hunt is over.

Disney+ has cancelled National Treasure: Edge of History after a single season, according to our sister site Deadline. The news comes two months after the release of the Season 1 finale, which dropped Feb. 8.

The show, from Disney Branded Television and ABC Signature, is an expansion of the National Treasure movie franchise told from the point of view of young heroine Jess — a DREAMer in search of answers about her family — who embarks on the adventure of a lifetime to uncover the truth about the past and save a lost Pan-American treasure.

Lisette Olivera, Zuri Reed, Antonio Cipriano, Jordan Rodrigues, Jake Austin Walker and Lyndon Smith starred in the series executive produced by the films’ producer Jerry Bruckheimer, director Jon Turteltaub and writers Marianne and Cormac Wibberley.

The season one finale of Disney+’s National Treasure: Edge of History ties up all the treasure-hunting loose ends while dangling the possibility of where season two could go if the streaming service picks up the drama. Episode 10, “Treasure Protectors,” picks up the action right where episode nine ended, with Agent Hendricks (Armando Riesco) having just stabbed Agent Ross (Lyndon Smith) with a sword. We, the audience, now know he’s Salazar – the man we’ve heard about all season but whose identity has just been revealed.

When Billie (Catherine Zetta-Jones) questions Salazar about why he’s there, Rafael (Jacob Vargas) chimes in and reminds her that Salazar is the one who killed her brother. But, of course, Salazar claims Rafael is a liar.

After loading the boat, they set off to find the treasure.

Episode nine of Disney+’s National Treasure: Edge of History is jam-packed with surprises, so buckle in. The episode kicks off with Jess (Lisette Olivera) and her father, Rafael (Jacob Vargas), being led through a private airport by Billie (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and her team. Rafael has a plan but Jess has one too, of course, and lets him know she has Ethan’s phone.

Before boarding the private plane, Billie reminds them that she heard everything and wants Rafael’s journal. She orders Kacey (Breeda Wool) to search Jess.

Elsewhere, Oren (Antonio Cipriano) is currently freaking out. He and Liam (Jake Austin Walker) went to Agent Ross (Lyndon Smith) and told her about Myles – his grandpa’s old nurse – being murdered. When Agent Ross checks out the scene, Myles’s body is gone and the room’s clean.

Jason Bateman is partnering with Warner Bros. and J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot for The Pinkerton. No, this isn’t a making-of-documentary about Weezer’s 1996 sophomore album. The project is an original feature about Pinkertons, which Bloomberg says is a private security guard and detective agency founded around 1850 in the United States by Scottish-born flatfoot Allan Pinkerton and Chicago attorney Edward Rucker. Initially known as the North-Western Police Agency, the outfit became Pinkerton & Co., then the Pinkerton National Detective Agency.

The Pinkerton is the first project from a deal between Bad Robot and Warner Bros. In addition to directing the film, Bateman is executive producing with Michael Costigan. Abrams and Hannah Minghella also produce through Bad Robot.

According to Pinkerton, the group saved president-elect Abraham Lincoln from an assassination attempt before the famous leader of the United States took office. Thankful for the save, Lincoln hired the Pinkertons as his security guards during his presidency.

With just two episodes left in season one of Disney+’s National Treasure: Edge of History, things are really heating up. Episode seven ended with Jess concluding she needs to break her father out of a prison in Mexico. Episode eight picks up with Jess’s dad, Rafael (Jacob Vargas), in for a shock when he sees Billie (Catherine Zeta-Jones) has come to visit him.

Billie accuses him of killing her brother and Rafael denies it, insisting it was Salazar who killed her brother. Billie demands the last relic or else she’s going after Jess. “You’re about to find out how it feels to lose the person you love more than anything else in the world,” warns Billie.

Oren (Antonio Cipriano) desperately tries to talk Jess (Lisette Olivera) out of breaking her father out of prison.

Disney+’s National Treasure: Edge of History episode seven is filled with one shocking twist after another, beginning with a fake tape implicating Jess in Sadusky’s murder. Agent Ross (Lyndon Smith) and her boss, Agent Hendricks (Armando Riesco), seem to believe the recording is real, and Hendricks instructs Ross to get a warrant for Jess’s arrest.

Episode six found Jess (Lisette Olivera) convinced she needed to travel to Mexico to talk to Salazar about the third relic. Tasha (Zuri Reed) and Oren (Antonio Cipriano) were equally convinced she’d never be able to return to the States if she left the country. That conversation continues in episode seven, and Tasha and Oren decide that if they can’t talk her out of it, they’ll go with her.

We’re halfway through the first season of National Treasure: Edge of History and the action is really heating up. Episode six, “Frenemies,” picks up right where episode five ended as Jess (Lisette Olivera) hops into a car with Billie (Catherine Zeta-Jones) to avoid the police. Billie claims she knew Rafael (Jess’s dad) and, of course, that piques Jess’s interest.

Billie shows her a medallion – the same one that Jess has – and claims to not only be a daughter of the Plumed Serpent but also insists they’re on the same side.

After Jess texts her friends to assure them she’s fine, she agrees to go to dinner with Billie. Billie shows Jess the medallion again and shows her a picture of her father, Rafael, with another man. Billie explains that the man in the photo is her brother Sebastian,...

Disney+’s National Treasure: Edge of History episode five catches up with Billie (Catherine Zeta-Jones) who’s busy working with her lackeys to try and figure out what Elvis’s riddle means. Dario (Darri Ingolfsson) thinks he figured it out with his high-tech programs, but Billie knocks his theory out of the running. She believes “twin serpents” doesn’t refer to a “tail” but instead is about a “tale.”

Billie doesn’t know it, but that’s also what Jess latched onto.

Meanwhile, Jess (Lisette Olivera) is having second thoughts about Liam being the mole. However, Tasha (Zuri Reed) is certain he’s Billie’s mole and attempts to convince Jess of that as she sweeps their apartment for bugs. The action picks up with Jess (Lisette Olivera) deep in thought trying to decipher the message she heard from none other than Elvis Presley (in episode three) as Disney+’s National Treasure: Edge of History episode four begins. A knock at the door interrupts her concentration, and it turns out that Ethan’s apologizing via cupcakes.

Oren (Antonio Cipriano) is deep in his own investigation and asks Ethan (Jordan Rodrigues) if he wants to help. It’s a no-go for Ethan; he’d rather spend time with his new girlfriend.

Meanwhile, Jess is getting frustrated that she can’t figure out Elvis’s riddle. Tasha (Zuri Reed) is there helping by talking her through it.

Disney+’s National Treasure: Edge of History episode two ended with a very shocked and confused Jess (Lisette Olivera) learning her mother was the author of an unpublished academic paper that provided Liam’s (Jake Austin Walker) dad with information on rare artifacts. Episode three opens with Jess confirming she now believes her mom knew about the treasure.

Jess, Tasha (Zuri Reed), and the gang’s newest member, Liam, show up at Ethan’s place to use Oren’s (Antonio Cipriano) old camcorder. They watch a tape and Jess acts as interpreter, explaining her mom is delivering a lecture about women fleeing as war broke out. They brought with them sacred objects so their history would be preserved.

One brave woman, Malinche, risked her life to save the treasure from the Conquistadors.

Episode two of Disney+’s National Treasure: Edge of History starts off right where episode one left off. The event, a Hollywood institution since 1978, honored Diane Keaton with the “Brass Ring Award,” while patrons of the evening were treated to show-stopping performances by music icons John Legend, Andy Grammer and Deborah Cox. There were a lot of trailers revealed at the recent D23 Expo, but one we missed was the new trailer for National Treasure: Edge of History. The upcoming Disney+ spinoff of the big screen franchise may be lacking Nicolas Cage, but it does look like it will offer up the same type of globe-trotting treasure hunts audiences loved in the first two movies.

The official trailer for Disney+’s National Treasure: Edge of History series begins with Sadusky (Harvey Keitel), a familiar face from the National Treasure films, passing along a clue to a treasure of utmost importance. The tie-in to the Nicolas Cage-led action-adventure films doesn’t stop there as the series was created by Cormac Wibberley and Marianne Wibberley, screenwriters of National Treasure (2004) and National Treasure: Book of Secrets (2007).

The official trailer debuted during the D23 Expo 2022 accompanied by the announcement the series will premiere on December 14, 2022.

The Wibberleys and Jerry Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman, Jon Turteltaub, and KristieAnne Reed executive produce. Writer Rick Muirragui and director Mira Nair also executive produce.

On Sept. 10, Disney+ unveiled the first full-length trailer for "National Treasure: Edge of History," and the show looks action-packed - plus, it includes plenty of nods to the original franchise.

While Cage isn't expected to appear in the series, the presence of his character, Ben Gates, is felt thanks to a fun Easter egg. In one scene from the trailer, a character discovers Benjamin Franklin's glasses - the same glasses Ben used in the 2004 "National Treasure." Additionally, the series will see Justin Bartha reprising the role of Riley.

The 15-second teaser offers the first glimpse at star Lisette Olivera, who plays Jess Morales, a 20-year-old Dreamer who sets off on an adventure to recover lost Pan-American treasure, unearthing shocking secrets about her family’s past in the process.

Disney+ shared a teaser trailer and behind-the-scenes look at its upcoming series National Treasure: Edge of History at San Diego Comic-Con today, giving a glimpse of Jess (Lisette Olivera), the lead.

The ABC Signature-produced series also announced that Harvey Keitel, who played Peter Sadusky — the FBI agent constantly at odds with Nicolas Cage’s Ben in the National Treasure film franchise — will join the series as a guest star in the same role. Harvey Keitel will guest star in National Treasure: Edge of History, a series based on the movie franchise starring Nicolas Cage. He’ll reprise his role as Peter Sadusky, an FBI agent who investigated the theft of the Declaration of Independence. The news was announced Thursday during a panel for the series at Comic-Con in San Diego.

Keitel is the second actor from the films to take part in the series; Justin Bartha will also reprise his role as tech expert Riley Poole.

Disney+’s “National Treasure” spinoff series introduced its newest treasure hunter in a teaser released at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday, and revealed that another familiar face would be returning.

Though the teaser is quick, there’s plenty to be seen. It opens in an office, where our new hero has a whole board set up with maps and information, presumably related to the next treasure that’s out in the world. Wearing a very Indiana Jones-esque hat and jacket, she takes off her hat to reveal long hair and looks straight into camera.

And so we meet Jess, the series’ heroine played by Lisette Olivera. According to the official “National Treasure: Edge of History” synopsis, she’s “a brilliant and resourceful DREAMer who embarks on the adventure of a lifetime to uncover the truth about her family’s mysterious past and save a lost Pan-American treasure.”

Marvel will make some big waves with its upcoming new movies (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) and Disney+ series (She-Hulk), but it will keep some powder dry for D23 in early September. Dwayne Johnson will be booming with New Line/DC’s Black Adam, along with Shazam: Fury of the Gods star Zachary Levi. However, while Sony will be skipping as the Spider-Verse animated sequel is set for next year. Paramount will be giving fans an early look at Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.
