Born in Oakland, CA and spending her youth alternately in Colusa,
Sacramento, and the greater Bay Area, Mariah is the daughter of a
German-Scotch-Irish-American mother (an RN) and and African-American
father (an Artist). She has some Asian and Native American ancestry as
well.
Mariah Lichtenstern-Walebowa is an entrepreneur, media consultant and producer. She founded Lightedstar Entertainment and Mobile App Development Pro. Mariah's multimedia portfolio includes narrative film, documentaries, music videos, commercials, websites, blogs, and social networks.
She's garnered wisdom from Hollywood's top studio executives, producers, and marketers, including a personal mentorship with Tom Ortenberg (Open Road Films), formerly of Lionsgate. Mariah has been a red carpet correspondent and interviewed Barak Obama, 14-time Academy Awards Producer, the late Gil Cates, and many more.
As an Arts Bridge Scholar, Mariah taught digital production to Berkeley High filmmakers. She taught theatre arts to incarcerated youth, via Unusual Suspect Theatre Company and several courses at the Art Institute of California. She served in many entertainment -oriented organizations such as Film Independent, The Film Arts Foundation, the Image Awards, and Pan African Film Festival. She has also pioneered new media development and cross-platform integration for private clientèle, including the world-renown ministries of Drs. Phillip and Brenda Goudeaux. She is an Executive Producer on the TV and Web broadcast, "A Father's Heart."
After emancipating from foster care at the age of 17, Lichtenstern graduated from UC Berkeley with a major in Rhetoric focused on media and cultural representation. She minored in English, Ethnic Studies, and African Studies. She attended graduate school for motion picture producing in the Peter Stark Producing Program at USC and earned a Masters degree in Entertainment Business at Full Sail University with emphasis on new media and marketing. Mariah has also held professional designations in financial planning and securities.
Lichtenstern has attended film markets and exclusive producing boot camps, from Cannes to the Los Angeles/ Tel Aviv Master Class in Producing facilitated by Lynn Roth (Paper Chase, 9 to 5) and Zvi Howard Rosenman (Sparkle, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, My First Mister). She has traveled to Asia, Europe, Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean researching culture and entertainment.
Mariah enjoys international travel, etymology, apologetics, and the arts. She is the wife of her college sweetheart, Sonny, and in 2010, became the mother of a delightful little girl, Naledi.
