Bengaluru, Feb 1 (Ians) The US Semiconductor Industry Association (Sia) and the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (Iesa) have announced plans to form a private-sector task force that will strengthen collaboration between the two countries in the global semiconductor ecosystem.

The task force will develop a “readiness assessment” regarding the semiconductor ecosystem in India and gather industry, government, and academic stakeholders to identify near-term industry opportunities and facilitate longer-term strategic development of complementary semiconductor ecosystems.

“We are thrilled to kick off this new initiative with Iesa, our counterpart in India,” said John Neuffer, Sia President and CEO.

“India is already a major hub for semiconductor research, chip design, and equipment engineering, but its future potential is even greater,” he added.

It will also make recommendations on opportunities and challenges to increase India’s role within the global semiconductor value chain, including chip manufacturing, apart from identifying and facilitating workforce development and...

The Delhi High Court on Thursday refused to stay the release of the upcoming Netflix series Trial By Fire.

A single-bench judge of Justice Yashwant Varma was dealing with the case seeking interim relief.

Ansal had filed a suit seeking permanent and mandatory injunction against the series and a restraint of further publication and circulation of the book titled “Trial By Fire – The tragic tale of the Uphaar Tragedy” by Neelam and Shekhar Krishnamoorthy, who lost their two young children in the 1997 catastrophe.

In November 2021, a Delhi court sentenced Gopal Ansal and his brother Sushil Ansal to seven years in prison each for tampering with evidence. However, the sessions court lowered it to the already completed period in July of last year, and thus they were released after serving little over eight months of the total sentence.

New Delhi, Aug 16 (Ians) India’s semiconductor component market is likel to reach 300 billion in cumulative revenues by 2026, as ‘Make in India’ and production-linked incentive (Pli) schemes will boost local sourcing of semi-components in the coming years, a new report said on Tuesday.

Mobile and wearables, It and industrial segments currently contribute around 80 per cent of the semiconductor revenues in the country in 2021.

Further policy reforms and building of a semiconductor ecosystem will reduce reliance on imports going forward, according to the report by the India Electronics & Semiconductor Association (Iesa) and Counterpoint Research.

“Before the end of this decade, there will be nothing that will not be touched by electronics and the ubiquitous ‘chip’. Be it fighting carbon emissions, renewable energy, food safety, or healthcare, the semiconductor chip will be all-pervasive,” said Krishna Moorthy, CEO and President, Iesa.
