Jeff Murphy is an author, screenwriter, script consultant and composer. A Bafta winner for his work on the successful detective show Hinterland, Jeff is involved in a wide range of projects in both feature film and television. He was recently been nominated for a second writing Bafta, for the same Hinterland show.
Two feature films Denmark and Justine were completed in 2019. Fairytale, another feature, will join them 2020.
Aside from working on all thirteen episodes of the successful Welsh detective noir show Hinterland (a writer on three) Jeff was a screenwriter and producer on the critically acclaimed, Series One, 8 x 1hour BBC/All3Media television series, Hidden.
Jeff founded, set up, structured, and creatively ran Cardiff-based company Severn Screen from 2009 to 2018. As a director of the company he ensured all projects under his guidance saw their way to the screen.

A Random House/Penguin author, his book on boxer Johnny Owen, now adapted for the screen, was elected the London Sunday Times Sports Book of the Month. A new book 'Welcome to Valleywood', about a lifetime living with Autism, and how that played out in the film/television industry, will be published in the fall of 2020.
Jeff's unique three-hour lecture Where Ideas Come From a discussion on the way we think, why we think the way we do, explores the essence of our creative being and attempts to answer the age-old question of why we seek to tell stories.
