From a certain perspective, monster movies might not seem to be as relevant during monstrous times. But in an age when our fears seem larger than life and the world constantly seems as though it’s on the brink of collapse, the best examples of the genre can almost assume a documentary-like authenticity, reflecting our reality as vividly as vérité ever could.
“The Babadook” might be about a demon that pops out of a children’s book, but no recent film does a better job of capturing the acute reality of living with grief. “Cloverfield” follows a gaggle of pre-Instagram model millennials as they’re chased around Manhattan by a bug-eyed colossus, but few of the somber post-9/11 dramas do a better job of distilling the heartsick chaos of watching your hometown try to make sense of a senseless attack. “The Village” is...

“Love and death are the two great hinges on which all human sympathies turn.”
-B.R. Haydon
Love and death are the two most powerful forces in human experience. They are the engines of our stories because they are the engines of our existence. Our hopes, desires, heartbreaks, and fears so often hang on these two factors—ever-present and constantly in tension. Horror, more often than not, preoccupies itself with the latter but from time to time, a really great horror love story comes along. Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson’s Spring is not only a great love story but an acknowledgment of the eternal balance of love and death that connects us to each other, the ancient and ongoing human story, and perhaps even the infinite.
Spring is quintessential Moorhead & Benson, who from their first feature, Resolution (2012), to their most recent, Something in the Dirt (2022), have explored vast and...

Killer Collectibles highlights five of the most exciting new horror products released each and every week, from toys and apparel to artwork, records, and much more.
Here are the coolest horror collectibles unveiled this week!
Universal Monsters Bobbleheads from Neca
Neca will add four Universal Monsters to its Head Knockers line of bobbleheads in August. Priced at 34.99, Dracula, Frankenstein, Bride of Dracula, and The Wolf Man are made of hand-painted resin and stand 8″ tall.
The sculpts are pretty fun on these, although I’m not sure why the necks are comically long when Neca’s other bobbleheads don’t have that issue. The prototypes are pictured, so maybe they’ll iron that out before production.
B’Twixt Now and Sunrise: The Authentic Cut Blu-ray from Lionsgate
2011’s Twixt was an ambitious, if flawed, Gothic horror film from the great Francis Ford Coppola that failed to land with critics and audiences alike.

It’s over.
Over a decade after its initial premiere in October 2010, AMCs “The Walking Dead” has reached its ultimate conclusion. “Rest In Peace” marked not only the last episode of the mega-sized 11th season, but the final episode of the entire flagship series. While there are a plethora of spin-offs featuring fan-favorite characters on the horizon, “Rest In Peace” closed a chapter on the core ensemble’s long fight for survival.
With dozens of recurring characters, actors juggling other filming commitments, losing its lead character, showrunner shifts, and the occasional controversial moment, finding a way to resolve the longest-running zombie television series seemed like an impossible feat. Despite all the odds, showrunner Angela Kang managed to overcome the show’s typical hiccups for an exceptionally rewarding, and emotional send-off.

After 11 seasons and 12 years, present and past cast members of “The Walking Dead” gathered together to celebrate the series finale at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday night. Fans sat on risers yards away from the red carpet, cheering the names of their favorite actors, who spoke to Variety about all they were feeling.
“When we were first doing the pilot, everybody kept saying, ‘This probably won’t go any further, because it’s zombies.’ Everything at that time was vampires,'” said Lennie James, who stars in “The Walking Dead” and spinoff “Fear the Walking Dead” as Morgan Jones. Reflecting on the work of Greg Nicotero, the series’ longtime director and executive producer, and Scott M. Gimple, the franchise’s chief content officer, James added, “What Gimple and Nicotero have done is they’ve made zombie sexy. They’ve made zombie scary. They’ve made zombies interesting.

Who will survive the 11th season of The Walking Dead TV show on AMC? The time has finally come. The final eight-episode run of AMCs “The Walking Dead” has kicked off with the Greg Nicotero-directed “Lockdown.” Picking up directly after the events of Episode 16, our survivors are on the run from a tyrannical Hornsby (Josh Hamilton) and his vicious militia. Inside the walls of the Commonwealth, the rest of the gang witness the downfall of the Milton family’s power in light of allegations against Sebastian Milton (Teo Rapp-Olsson). With the series finale creeping up on the horizon, “Lockdown” pushes full throttle with its pacing as it sets its sights on the highly-anticipated conclusion.
“Lockdown” delivers a healthy-dosage of action sequences paired with proper character-centric scenes. Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Daryl (Norman Reedus) execute a pretty gnarly car-chase, featuring camera movement and stunt-work that feels exhilarating and intensive, on a scale that reminds you of the genre-dipping “The Walking Dead” is capable of.

There are spin-off and companion shows that will continue and more spin-offs on the way, but The Walking Dead itself will soon be coming to an end. There are only eight episodes of the show left, and those episodes are scheduled to begin airing on October 2nd. AMC+ subscribers will be able to watch two new episodes on that date, and going forward new episodes will reach AMC+ a week before they air on AMC.
This final batch of episodes, which is called The Walking Dead Season 11C, has the following synopsis we’ve seen before:
In the upcoming final episodes of The Walking Dead, threats lurk around every corner, dead and alive, as each group continues to get caught in uncontrollable situations. The looming pressure is cresting towards a day of reckoning for all. Will the sum of their individual journeys cumulate into one, or divide them forever?

After 12 years and 169 episodes, The Walking Dead is leading up to the final fight the survivors will face together. TV Insider has an exclusive first look at the new promo (with new footage!) and key art for the eight episodes of Season 11C. “Do you think people are born brave, or do they become it?” Eugene (Josh McDermitt) asks in the new video, which shows the survivors fighting walkers and the Commonwealth. “We are going to take back our home, and make it right,” Maggie (Lauren Cohan) says. Carol (Melissa McBride) knows “this isn’t going to be easy,” but as Daryl (Norman Reedus) points out, “When is it ever?” Watch the video above for a glimpse of what to expect in the final episodes, then scroll down to check out the new art, showing the survivors — Cassady McClincy as Lydia, Nadia Hilker as Magna, Paola Lázaro as Juanita ‘Princess’ Sanchez,...

This The Walking Dead review contains spoilers.
The Walking Dead Season 11 Episode 10
If there was even a starker contrast between two places, it hits the very opening moments of “New Haunts,” the first episode of The Walking Dead to show what life is like in the Commonwealth for the hungry, bedraggled survivors from Alexandria. Sure, they’ve had 30 days to get adjusted, but that’s barely enough time to get used to not having to fight marauders for crumbs. By and large, Daryl (Norman Reedus) and company are still trying to adjust to the new world, which feels suspiciously like the old world in all the wrong ways.
The Commonwealth is so insulated from the world around them that something like a zombie-filled haunted house is just part of the community Halloween celebration, rather than the real world outside the community’s walls. It seems to be in poor taste,...

Though the ratings have dropped quite a bit, The Walking Dead has remained the highest-rated scripted series on AMC. Warning: The following contains spoilers for what was to have been the Season 10 finale of The Walking Dead (but is now just kinda a treat to tide us over until we get our six bonus episodes). If you wanna be surprised when you watch, you don’t wanna be here.
In Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead comic books, “A Certain Doom” lived up to its title in a big way by killing off Andrea, whose role as Rick’s significant other wound up being taken by Michonne in the series. So we were primed to expect a major casualty during Beta’s last stand.

As The 100 nears the end of its seven-season run, the creator and executive producer Jason Rothenberg was joined by cast members Marie Avgeropoulos, Lindsey Morgan, Richard Harmon, Tasya Teles, Shannon Kook, Jr Bourne and Shelby Flannery in a pre-taped panel for Comic-Con@Home to reflect about their time on the CW sci-fi series. In addition to that, Rothenberg gave audiences some vague hints about the backdoor prequel pilot to the series which aired earlier this month.
“We definitely started the season wanting to make sure we didn’t leave anything on the field,” said Rothenberg about wrapping up seven seasons. He added that he recognizes the series leaves a lot of unanswered questions throughout the seasons that he wanted to answer and said that the prequel episode helped “fill in a lot of the blanks”. For example, he pointed out that the episode addressed why the bunker was empty...

Some of The 100 cast and showrunner Jason Rothenberg took place in a pre-recorded panel today for Comic Con at Home in which they chatted about the legacy of this show and what to expect from the latter half of the show’s final season.
“We definitely started this season wanting to make sure we didn’t leave anything on the field, meaning there were certain unanswered questions over the seasons that we wanted to answer,” said showrunner Rothenberg about the plan heading into the seventh season. “And since I know people are seeing this after I think maybe the first 10 episodes have aired, you already have seen the prequel so you know that that episode kind of fills in a lot of blanks. Why was the bunker empty when they opened it in Season 4 just being one sort of question that I always had and we needed to answer this year.

Luna was a character that had a reputation before she ever graced our screens.
She was a loyal friend to Lincoln, and she represented a form of peace that none of the other characters prepared themselves for at the time. She was an unattainable example of doing better on a show that always straddled that line.
But it wasn't until the audience got to see Nadia Hilker embody the role of Luna that her extraordinary presence on the show really started.
Luna was captivating because of how honest she was when it came to making hard choices, which other characters sometimes struggled with themselves. She had her morals, and she was always looking to exist in peace.
This was a strange concept when The 100 always put the other characters in difficult positions with no good choices. But Luna made it look easy; there was a way to just stop killing and to find happiness.

This Twilight Zone review contains spoilers.
The Twilight Zone Season 2 Episode 6
Science fiction that happens underwater almost always become horrifically scary, really fast. Off the top of my head, the only sci-fi premises that aren’t automatically horrifying are the ‘90s show seaQuest, or my three-year-old daughter’s favorite TV Show, Octonauts. Everything else that happens underwater has the potential to be packed with the stuff of nightmares. James Cameron’s The Abyss isn’t called The Lovely Abyss. Great underwater fiction comes with scary sea monsters, at least nine times out of ten.
The sixth episode of season 2 of the new Jordan Peele Twilight Zone is what would happen if the sea monster story was merged with the original Ridley Scott-directed Alien. In other words, you’re terrified, but also kind of rooting for the monster on some level. What makes this episode so interesting, is you think...

Season 10 of “The Walking Dead” has seen its share of bloodshed. Beloved veterans like Siddiq (Avi Nash) were shockingly eliminated, and new faces like Mary (Thora Birch) met their end just as viewers grew to love them. Just two episodes remain in this action packed season, which will feature The Whisperers on the move with a gargantuan zombie horde. That means more character exits are inevitable and it’s time for another “Walking Dead” death watch. These are the most likely characters to die before the season wraps.
Gabriel
Father Gabriel (Seth Gilliam) has experienced quite the journey since his cowardly debut. Season 10 has seen Gabe grow more bold and brutal, having no problem torturing Whisperers because he thinks they can be easily broken. But Gabe wasn’t there for the Hilltop fire and his overconfidence against the ruthless group could lead to his downfall. The Whisperers have already murdered...

‘The Walking Dead’ episode 12 recap: Top 7 epic moments from ‘Walk With Us’ include a shocking twist
It’s hard to believe that “The Walking Dead” still has four more episodes left in Season 10. Because Episode 12, “Walk With Us” was jam packed with epic moments that it felt like a season finale. Homes burn, battles rage, and main characters meet their maker. These are the seven most epic moments from “Walk With Us.”
The Battle of Hilltop
The fighters on the frontline of the battle have managed to retreat inside Hilltop’s walls, but flames engulf the entire town. Carol (Melissa McBride) picks off walkers from her archer tower, but the horde is overwhelming. Zombies pour through a massive hole burned through the central gate and shielded warriors do their best to contain the breach. Ezekiel (Khary Payton) gathers the children and ushers them to an exit, but Judith (Cailey Fleming) has gone missing. The “little ass kicker” is taking out a group of the undead with her sword,...

When The Walking Dead Season 10 Episode 9 drew to a close on Sunday night, the fate of Connie (Lauren Ridloff) and Magna (Nadia Hilker) was left up in the air.
Both women were trapped in a cave after dynamite closed the only exit. Despite viewers witnessing it fill up with rocks, we didn't get confirmation on whether either of them survived.
Ridloff is attached to the forthcoming movie, Marvel's The Eternals, leading to fans questioning whether the actress is taking some time out from the AMC series to film the movie.
Naturally, showrunner Angela Kang was quizzed on whether the dire situation we left Connie in was due to her commitment to The Eternals.
"That is a very apt observation," the showrunner told Business Insider.
"Yeah, there is some aspect of that that is true. But I think for the story, it's actually worked out really beautifully.

It’s been three long months since “The Walking Dead” trapped a band of heroes in the depths of a zombie infested cave. The mid-season premiere, which aired Sunday, February 23, reveals who makes it out alive and who is in danger. But the writers still found time to throw in some intrigue at the Whisperer camp. Not to mention the freakiest love scene of the year. So bring your flashlight as we go spelunking with walkers. These are the five best moments from “Squeeze.”

Throughout its many years on the small screen, The Walking Dead, typically vacillates between ‘V’ or ‘Vl’ on the official ratings chart. Which is to say that nearly every installment of AMC’s zombie flagship contains violence or crude language. Or both.
Rarely does an episode of The Walking Dead get slapped with ‘Svl’, which denotes a combination of violence, crude language and sexual content. And yet, that seems to be the case for this month’s mid-season premiere, “Squeeze.”
It’ll signal the return of season 10 in just a few weeks, and when it does, it’ll contain “sexual situations,” according to intel obtained by ComicBook.com. Perhaps this has something to do with the newly-released footage of Eugene and Rosita kissing? Or does AMC have something else planned for episode 10×09?

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “The Walking Dead” Season 10, Episode 5, “What It Always Is.”]
It’s tempting to praise “What It Always Is” simply because of how busy it gets. Most “Walking Dead” episodes move like molasses, but this week’s entry has no less than four significant plot threads going, which at least keeps the pace pulsing. Unfortunately, all but one of those threads have major problems, with its most significant entry — Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) gets a new acolyte — being particularly dire. The upside: Episode 5 sets the stage for more compelling developments next week, but it’s a hard road getting there. The cracks in this season are just getting wider.
Last week I noted that “The Walking Dead” is always more interesting when it explores its heroes’ fallibility, as paranoia about the Whisperers leads to unrest in both Hilltop and Alexandria. Of course, it’s not paranoia if they’re really out to get you,...

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “The Walking Dead,” Season 10, Episode 4, “Silence the Whisperers.”]
To its credit, “Silence The Whisperers” is the most thematically interesting episode of the season so far, arguing that it wouldn’t take much of a push for the communities’ new society to descend into chaos, as everyone works themselves up into a frenzy about the Whisperers. Also, Ezekiel (Khary Payton) finally gets some attention this week, sharing some tender moments with Michonne (Danai Gurira), which is a surprisingly fresh pairing on this show, considering how long both characters have been around.
Of course, this is still “The Walking Dead,” so a lot of this material is pretty ham-fisted and cartoonish, and the season still doesn’t have much in the way of narrative drive. But we’ll hand out some points for effort.
The main focus this week is on Lydia (Cassady McClincy) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), who have a...

After suffering tremendous loss at the hands of The Whisperers, “The Walking Dead” leaps forward a few months to show how the survivors are coping with their losses. AMC’s hit series has experienced a slew of cast and location changes over the years, and Season 10 looks to once more alter the dynamics of the apocalypse. The new photo (see below) features Michonne slashing walkers with her trusty katana against the backdrop of a forest on fire, and when you can't exactly call the fire department in the living dead apocalypse, a blaze like the one in the photo could lead to utter devastation if it goes unchecked.
Here's what The Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang told EW about the fire in the photo:
“One of the things that we have going on this season is, we’re continuing some explorations of natural elements and how they play into our world. And fire is one of those elements that comes into play in a few key ways that twist the story in a way that will be pretty exciting.

Dude, AMC has released their San Diego Comic-Con lineup, and it’s freaking exciting! Not only do we have panels for all our favorite AMC shows, but Deadline also reports a “new and improved DeadQuarters fan zone, a Walker Horde photo opp, gaming demo previews, and a canned-food drive for Feeding San Diego.” The following description of the events details the crazy fun that will be jam-packed into the weekend by the cable giant:
Beyond the convention’s panel programming, AMC will host DeadQuarters (at 4th Avenue and L Street) the “official fan zone” of The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead. This year’s edition ” will feature a curated walk through of settings (including “Winter Escape” from the Season 9 finale of The Walking Dead) as well as an elaborate treehouse and plane crash site inspired by Season 5 of Fear the Walking Dead. If AMC has its way, this year’s Comic-Con International will be swarmed by zombies in historic fashion. The stars and creative team behind The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead will be turning out in force in San Diego, and AMC hopes zombified fans will do the same for promotions such as the new and improved DeadQuarters fan zone, a Walker Horde photo opp, gaming demo previews, and a canned-food drive for Feeding San Diego.
AMC will also bring key cast members and the producers of Preacher, NOS4A2, and The Terror: Infamy to the San Diego expo for pop culture and and genre entertainment. A quick overview of AMC’s full-court press at this year’s 50th edition of Comic-Con:

In the penultimate episode of The Walking Dead‘s ninth season, 10 survivors were wiped out by the Whisperers in one of the show’s biggest massacres to date. The fifteenth episode,”The Calm Before,” saw Ezekiel’s fair turn sour when Alpha and her cronies kidnapped and murdered numerous Alexandria, Hilltop and Kingdom citizens, including Enid, Henry and Tara.
With no offense intended to the other fallen characters, those three were the ones who were mourned the most by fans following the episode’s airing. However, Tara’s death also got a lot of people riled as it spelled the second removal of a rare gay character on the show this same season. The first time it happened was Jesus (Tom Payne) back in the midseason finale.

The death toll on “The Walking Dead” Season 9 has been staggering. Gregory (Xander Berkeley) was executed. Jesus (Tom Payne) was murdered. Saviors were gunned down and burned alive. In addition, main cast members Andrew Lincoln and Lauren Cohan were written out of the series. My “walker-sense” is tingling and telling me there will be more bloodshed before the season finale, which is scheduled to air March 31 on AMC.

With the ruthless Alpha (the Emmy-worthy Samantha Morton) on the prowl, Team Family should be quaking in their boots. We’ve watched Alpha murder her own people, abuse her daughter, and abandon a baby to the zombies. It stands to reason that a major conflict will erupt during the last two episodes of the season, and not everyone will survive. After all, the series has...

Eleanor Matsuura takes on the role of Yumiko on The Walking Dead cast this season. She first appeared at the end of the last episode where Rick Grimes (played by Andrew Lincoln) was seen in Season 9. Yumiko is one of the new arrivals to the show, first as someone who was invited by Judith Grimes (Cailey Fleming) to live at Alexandria. Then, after Michonne (Danai Gurira) decided they couldn’t stay, Yumiko went to Hilltop with her group of survivors. It’s also important to note that Yumiko is the love interest of Magna, who is played by Nadia Hilker on […]
