Per THR, DC Studios and HBO have tapped James Hawes to serve as the director of the first two episodes of Lanterns. Hawes is a prolific TV director, having helmed episodes of Black Mirror, Penny Dreadful, Doctor Who, The Alienist, Snowpiercer, Raised by Wolves, and Slow Horses. He also recently made his feature directorial debut with One Life, a biopic starring Anthony Hopkins as Nicholas Winton, who helped save hundreds of children during World War II.
The live-action Green Lantern series is said to have a True Detective vibe as it “follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.” Kyle Chandler was recently set to star as Hal Jordan. Aaron Pierre (Rebel Ridge) and Stephan James (Homecoming) are the top choices for John Stewart, with THR stating that screen tests are happening right now.

Rumours began circulating earlier this month that Josh Brolin was in talks to star in HBO’s upcoming Green Lantern TV series. It later emerged that he had turned down the role, with Warner Bros. now in talks with Kyle Chandler to wield the power ring. While speaking with ComicBook.com, Brolin confirmed he had been in talks to star in Lanterns, but it didn’t work out.
“You know what? Green Lantern didn’t work out, but that’s okay,” Brolin said. “It’s working out. Who is it going to be, Kyle Chandler? I love him as an actor, I think he’s wonderful, actually. And, you know, we’ll see what’s down the line, man.” That last line does seem to hint that he would be open to another DC role. While there were some who weren’t down with Brolin taking on the role, I was excited by his potential involvement,...

Warner Bros. has faced a challenging couple of years, marked by significant financial losses. In August, Warner Bros. Discovery (Wbd) reported a share price decline of over 10% following the announcement of a $9.1 billion write-down on its television networks and a failure to meet revenue expectations.
For the three months ending June 30th, Wbd disclosed total revenue of $9.7 billion, reflecting a 5% year-over-year decline, alongside a net loss of $9.9 billion that included the $9.1 billion non-cash goodwill impairment charge. The company attributed these major losses to the write-down in the value of its cable network.
WB’s movies and TV shows have struggled to receive positive critical and audience feedback, with only a few recent releases standing out. The latest Dceu films have either flopped at the box office or barely broken even, and it appears the company is determined not to let this negative reputation affect the upcoming launch of the Dcu,...

Warner Bros. had a rough couple of years as the media company is seeing significant financial losses. In August, Warner Bros Discovery (Wbd) saw its share price drop by over 10% after announcing a $9.1 billion write-down on its television networks and missing revenue estimates.
For the three months ending June 30th, Wbd reported total revenue of $9.7 billion, a 5% decline year-over-year, along with a net loss of $9.9 billion, which included the $9.1 billion non-cash goodwill impairment charge. WB’s movies and TV shows aren’t doing all that well when it comes to critical and audience reception as well with a few recent releases being exceptions. Earlier this week, Kyle Chandler of Friday Night Lights entered negotiations to star as Hal Jordan in the HBO series Lanterns, inspired by DC Comics’ Green Lantern characters. Now Deadline reports that Aaron Pierre (Rebel Ridge) and Stephan James (Homecoming) have emerged as the top choices to play Jordan’s fellow Green Lantern John Stewart. Snowfall‘s Damson Idris was apparently in the mix at one point as well, but it looks like the conversation has come down to Pierre or James. Deadline’s sources caution that no offers have made to either one of them… yet.

Chris Mundy (True Detective: Night Country) will serve as showrunner and executive producer and will co-write the series alongside Damon Lindelof (The Leftovers) and Tom King (Supergirl), who will also executive produce.

With Kyle Chandler now officially set to play the Dcu's Hal Jordan in Lanterns, comic book fans are eager to learn who will join him in the HBO series as John Stewart.
A few different names have surfaced lately, but scooper @MyTimeToShineH - who was the first to share news of Matthias Schoenaerts' Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow casting - has now revealed a supposed shortlist.
Apparently, the five top contenders are Damson Idris (F1), Aaron Pierre (Mufasa: The Lion King), Sope Dirisu (Slow Horses), Kelvin Harrison Jr. (Chevalier), and Toheeb Jimoh (Ted Lasso). It may now be down to Idris and Pierre, though the former being cast in Children of Blood and Bone could take him out of the running.

In the sprawling landscape of television, few shows have captured global attention and cultural significance like Game of Thrones. With its unprecedented success, HBO saw an opportunity to extend the universe crafted by George R. R. Martin. While that became a reality with the show’s prequel spin-off, House of the Dragon, the production company initially had plans to tackle yet another amazing storyline. However, the plans for that ended up falling through.

In fact, HBO even spent an insane amount of money to shoot the pilot episode. Yet, despite a staggering over $30 million investment, they wound up pulling the plug on the potential prequel that could have given fans a look at the old Westeros and a look at the history of White Walkers.

Jared Harris, son of Richard Harris, who originated the role of Dumbledore in the Warner Bros. Harry Potter franchise, doesn’t see the need for HBO’s television reboot.
In a recent interview with The Independent, Jared Harris — who followed in his late father’s footsteps with credits in Mad Men and Chernobyl (from HBO), garnering Emmy nominations for each project — emphatically dismissed the idea of portraying the beloved mentor character.
“No, thank you,” he said simply, when asked if he would consider playing Dumbledore on the small screen.
He continued, “Also, I mean, why do it? I don’t understand. The films were fantastic – leave them alone.”

In brightest day, in blackest night, no evil shall escape Kyle Chandler’s sight if the Friday Night Lights actor brandishes a power ring for DC‘s Lanterns series. According to Deadline, Kyle Chandler is negotiating to star as Hal Jordan in HBO’s Green Lantern series. News about the Emmy-winning actor becoming a space cop for the anticipated adaptation arrived weeks after rumors began flying about Josh Brolin playing Hal Jordan. No one is commenting about the likelihood of Kyle Chandler joining the series, but Deadline appears confident in their source.

When director Matt Reeves was writing “The Batman,” and effectively taking the franchise reigns with what was expected to be the first of a trilogy of films featuring Robert Pattinson as the caped crusader, he knew he wanted his Gotham to be a more grounded cinematic world. Inspired by the tone of Frank Miller’s comicbook series “Batman: Year One,” in which the chaotic real world of 1970s New York was a recognizable underpinning, Reeves wanted his Gotham to be recognizable to a modern audience — a direct reflection of our own broken and divisive times. That tone, more so than interlocking narrative, would be the glue.
It’s a vision Reeves had always imagined could neatly spin-off into an HBO-like series, especially when switching out of Batman’s point-of-view in the movies, and exploring the world through the eyes of one of the Rogues Gallery villains.

So far, the show has had terrific overall reviews with Season 1 being better than the latest iteration. But there are major issues that need to be acknowledged by the writer of the show, Ryan Condal.

While he told IndieWire at the Emmys red carpet that the show’s creative team has not approached him about any roles, he added that he felt his character was not as present in the films as he would have liked him to be — a sentiment long-shared by fans of the magical franchise.

HBO Head Denies Divisive Reactions to House of the Dragon - Main Image
Ever since the final season of Game of Thrones, the hyper-critical (and often misogynist) chunk of the Thrones fandom has been getting louder online, and they would do anything in their power to nitpick every single new property that comes out—including the spinoff series House of the Dragon.
Though Hotd was met with divisive online reactions throughout its run, it didn’t seem to be a problem when it comes to HBO head Casey Bloys.

Exclusive: Max has picked up for development a law enforcement drama from Tomorrow Studios, Marty Adelstein’s joint venture with ITV Studios. The project, loosely inspired by Geraldine Hart’s experiences as an FBI agent and police commissioner, stems from Tomorrow Studios’ first-look deal with Story Syndicate, the media company founded by Oscar- and Emmy-winning documentary filmmakers Liz Garbus and Dan Cogan.
Eileen Myers (The Night Agent) is writing the pilot for the untitled series, which follows a legendary FBI agent who returns to her hometown on Long Island to clean up mob corruption and quickly finds that the rot is even deeper and darker than she thought. Before long, she finds herself facing down nefarious entities from all sides.
Garbus, who has branched out into drama series directing with episodic work on shows like The Handmaid’s Tale, which earned her an Emmy nomination, and Yellowjackets, will helm the potential pilot.

The second season of HBO's post-apocalyptic drama The Last of Us wrapped filming last month, and now, we have an exciting new update about when we'll get to watch it. HBO CEO Casey Bloys was out on the press trail after the Emmy Awards aired this past weekend, where he spoke to Deadline about a variety of the networks upcoming projects. He brushed off author George R.R. Martin's criticisms of House of the Dragon, hinted at ia 2026 or 2027 release window for the new Harry Potter series, and even gave us some new informaton on The Last of Us.
When asked about when we can expect to see Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey fighting zombies again, as well as the third season of the star-studded series The White Lotus, Bloys replied, "Well, all I'll say now, generally first half of the year, I expect them to be in the Emmy window.

This Thursday, HBO will premiere The Penguin, a new TV show spun off from director Matt Reeves' 2022 film The Batman. But don't expect Bruce Wayne to show up; this series is all about one of his most iconic nemeses: Oswald "Oz" Cobblepot, aka the Penguin, played by Colin Farrell under layers of prosthetics and makeup. In the first movie, the Penguin is a low-level enforcer in the mob. He'll be making some big moves in the new series.

The other week, Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin went public with his criticisms of the second season of prequel series House of the Dragon, which is based on his book Fire & Blood. Writing on his blog, Martin took issue with the way the show is cutting important characters from the source material in ways that could negatively affect the story going forward, and hinted at much bigger complaints down the line.
Martin deleted the blog post soon after, so we may never know what those claims were. Still, he made waves; HBO tried to do some damage control, and now we fans just have to sit with the knowledge that the man who wrote the book on which House of the Dragon is based has huge problems with the show. It's awkward.
HBO CEO Casey Bloys downplayed the impact of Martin's comments when talking to Deadline about HBO's Emmy haul this past weekend.

Gary Oldman played Harry's godfather Sirius Black in the Harry Potter movies. However, the actor doesn't seem done with the Wizarding World just yet. With HBO making a Harry Potter TV adaptation with a 10-year commitment to completing the series, Oldman has expressed interest in getting involved.
The announcement of a Harry Potter TV show earlier this year received a mixed reception. There's already eight fantastic movies, right? On the other hand, a TV show allows for a much more thorough adaptation of the books. The writers are not held back by the limited duration of a movie. Several former cast members have voiced their support of the upcoming series, from Daniel Radcliffe (Harry) to Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley).
Now, Gary Oldman has revealed that he's totally down to jump back into the Wizarding World. While it's hard to imagine anyone else playing Sirius, Oldman isn't expecting a call to reprise his old role.

All’s well that ends well. With most of HBO’s existing Emmy juggernauts — The White Lotus, The Last of Us, House of the Dragon and Euphoria — not releasing new seasons during the 2024 Emmys’ qualifying window and Succession and Barry gone, the network had been bracing for tough year-to-year comparisons.
Somehow, however, HBO | Max, No. 3 in the overall 2024 distributor rankings behind FX and Netflix, walked away with a top program Emmy on Sunday, scoring an upset win in the final category, Outstanding Comedy Series, for Hacks. It was the first time the Max original went head-to-head with FX’s heavy favorite The Bear after a long break between Seasons 2 and 3.
That won’t be the case with Season 4 of Hacks, which is already in production. In an interview with Deadline at the HBO | Max Emmy afterparty Sunday night, Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO, HBO and Max Content, spoke about Hacks‘ triple win — for Comedy Series,...

Just eight months after the last round of Emmy celebrations — with the 2023 show pushed to January following the strikes — Hollywood is back at it, toasting this year’s top TV talents all across town. The agencies kicked things off on Thursday and Friday, while Saturday saw the toasts carrying on and the studios closed out Sunday with their respective afterparties.
Here’s an inside look at this year’s festivities, as The Hollywood Reporter‘s staffers hit the biggest events across Los Angeles.

Larry David probably already had curbed his enthusiasm about a final-season Emmy breakthrough for his veteran HBO series as he was a no-show at the Sunday ceremony which made it official: David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm ended its run as the show with the most Outstanding Comedy Series nominations, 11, without a win.
Curb was nominated for four Emmys this year including Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for David, missing out on all to wrap its 12-season run with a total of 55 Emmy nominations and two wins, for Outstanding Single-camera Picture Editing for a Comedy Series in 2012 and for Directing in 2003.
While skipping the ceremony, David made the Emmy party circuit earlier this weekend and was also holding court at the HBO I Max after-party Sunday night. Another HBO | Max series, Hacks, won the Comedy Series Prize tonight, while Jeremy Allen White repeated as the...

It looks like Matt Reeves has recently let the Bat out of the bag! The genius behind Cloverfield and Let Me In revealed that his grand plan for The Batman has always been a sweeping trilogy. Well, remember The Penguin series? The director confirmed that the upcoming series will take place right after the events of The Batman.
Intrigued? You should be! Because Reeves also dropped a frosty little nugget; the next installment of The Batman’s saga is likely to be set in winter.

Update: Josh Brolin won’t play a space cop for DC Studios’ Lanterns series after passing on the opportunity to play the brash, cloud-slicing maverick Hal Jordan for the forthcoming HBO series. According to multiple sources, DC Studios offered Brolin the part in late August, but this past weekend, the No Country for Old Men and Avengers: Endgame actor declined. The studio gave no further details.
Did Brolin strike anyone else as an odd choice for Hal Jordan? Don’t get it twisted, I love me some Brolin, but isn’t he a little too rugged to play one of DC’s flagship Lanterns? I still think the show should center on John Stewart, but no one’s asking me. Regardless, the hunt is back for an actor to star as Hal Jordan in DC Studios’ Lanterns. Who should play Jordan now that Brolin is out of the picture? Have they cast Jessica Cruz yet?...

Game of Thrones fans are definitely rejoicing with all the lined-up projects heading their way soon. However, with all the planned spinoff series, only some are confirmed, and the unfortunate ones have been canceled or shelved for the time being.

After House of the Dragon, the most highly anticipated series would be Aegon’s Conquest, the tale of the conqueror who united the realm and became the first king of the Targaryen dynasty. There have been positive updates about the series, so fans will be assured that this is still moving forward.
Game Of Thrones Spinoff Aegon’s Conquest Is Confirmed To Be In The Works
After Game of Thrones wrapped up in 2019, HBO still wanted to explore the world of Westeros through spinoffs. Programming chief Casey Bloys told The Hollywood Reporter at the time that they planned to pick which stories were worth telling.

After the Harry Potter franchise ended its iconic run in 2011, rumors of a Harry Potter and the Cursed Child movie began swirling in the muggle world. Unfortunately, with little to no official discussion about the potential film, spotlights shifted to the Harry Potter TV series, that’s currently in development.

Addresing the potential reboot, several actors have revealed if they would return to the Wizarding World franchise. While actors like Tom Felton and Bonnie Wright expressed interest in continuing the Harry Potter franchise, other stars simply turned down the offer. Surprisingly, even Imelda Staunton, who traumatized Potterheads with her villainous depiction of Dolores Umbridge, refused to make a comeback.

Almost every Stephen King novel (or novella) is a page-turner. The author has experimented with varying styles over the years: sometimes, horror has taken a backseat, operating like an ominous shadow lurking amid the pages, and at other times, his stories have felt akin to peering into the abyss. Then there are works centered on crime, notably the Bill Hodges trilogy, which includes the brilliant, engrossing "Finders Keepers." And then there are masterful entries that defy neat genres, like "Revival." When it comes to King's "The Outsider," the basic beats of the grisly tale already feel like a compelling crime saga with the author's signature flourishes. Once the police stumble upon the heavily mutilated corpse of young Frankie Peterson in Flint City, Oklahoma, it prompts the arrest of baseball youth coach Terry Maitland — publicly known as an easygoing family man — whom the town turns against overnight.

With the success of Game of Thrones and now its spinoff House of the Dragon, it’s no surprise that HBO is looking to continue expanding upon this world that George R. R. Martin created. With a vast history of rich characters, there is plenty still left to be explored in Westeros – it’s just a matter of finding the right stories to tell.
Some series will never see the light of day, while others are in active development, slowly but surely working their way to our screens. From Snow to Sea Snake, here are all of the Game of Thrones spinoffs that have been conceptualized in the wake of the series’ ending, and their status.

It seems like it has been forever and a day since we learned that there are plans to create a series based on the highest grossing horror franchise, The Conjuring. It has been in the works for some time over at the streamer Max. Are there any updates? Well, the good news is that it is still happening.
The best update we can get when it comes to a series we hope to one day enjoy, is that it is still in the works. That said, it's good to know that The Conjuring TV series is still happening. So, at the very least, we know that it has not been canceled. The movie The Crooked Man can't say the same, so we're lucky! But it would still be nice if we knew the synopsis, the cast involved in the project, will anyone from the iconic movies make an appearance? Or...

HBO in November 2022 announced a third season for The White Lotus, which will bring a new installment of the Mike White-created anthology series to screens.
The first installment, which premiered July 2021 and was set in Hawaii, was nominated for 20 Emmy Awards and won a leading 10, including for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series. Season 2, set in Sicily, debuted October 30, 2022 and won five Emmys, including a repeat for Jennifer Coolidge.
When will The White Lotus Season 3 premiere?
Originally eyed to premiere in 2024, HBO boss Casey Bloys has said Season 3 will likely arrive in 2025, delayed be the Writers Guild and SAG-AFTRA strikes that shut down production through the heart of 2023. Season 3 of The White Lotus, to be set in Thailand after setting the action in Hawaii for Season 1 and Sicily for Season 2, is now slated to begin filming in and around Koh Samui, Phuket, and Bangkok in February 2024.

At the tail end of June, Bill Burr took the stage at Seattle’s Moore Theatre, where he filmed his eighth stand-up special. His last few specials had been with Netflix, where he’d been part of an illustrious roster that includes Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, Ali Wong and Jerry Seinfeld.
But those who know Burr say he wanted to feel important — or at least less like a cog in the wheel at a streaming behemoth, which now spits out specials on a weekly basis and largely relies on internal algorithms to get them seen. Plus, there was an excitement about being on the ground floor of something new. So Burr inked a deal with Hulu, the latest entrant to what’s quickly become an arms race for stand-up specials, one of few bright spots in an otherwise bleak entertainment landscape. “Euphoria” Season 3 might be even more intense, given the seemingly creative carte blanche for the series from network HBO.
“Euphoria” actor Eric Dane told Variety that he is “very happy” to be going into production on the long-awaited third season. HBO confirmed that Season 3 will begin filming in January 2025, with series breakout stars Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, Hunter Schafer, and the entire principal cast returning.
“I was optimistic that it was going to come back so I’m very happy,” Dane, who plays Elordi’s onscreen father, said. “I know there’s a massive appetite for it out in the marketplace. There’s a huge audience, and I love making it. I love the people I work with. I love working with Sam Levinson. I have a great time. HBO is supportive in allowing us to do whatever the fuck we want to do.”

Matt Reeve’s sequel to “The Batman” doesn’t hit theaters until 2026, but fans of the film will get to revisit Reeves’ take on Gotham City this fall. Colin Farrell is set to reprise his role as comic book crime lord Oswald “Oz” Cobb in “The Penguin,” an eight episode limited series from showrunner Lauren LeFranc that will air on HBO and stream on Max in September.
“The Penguin” will bridge the gap between the end of “The Batman” and the beginning of Reeves’ next film, following Oswald (better known by his villainous alias The Penguin) as he rebuilds his crime empire and seeks to fill the power vaccum that emerges in Gotham City after the death of John Turturro’s Carmine Falco.
A new trailer released during the show’s Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday gives fans their closest look yet at the series, which...

Zendaya was allegedly ready to challenge Sam Levinson’s plans for “Euphoria” Season 3.
After a years-long hiatus (“Euphoria” has been off the air since Season 2 concluded in February 2022), “Challengers” star and “Euphoria” executive producer Zendaya was frustrated by Levinson opting instead to focus on his controversial series “The Idol” rather than the long-awaited third season of “Euphoria.”
In a new exposé published in The Hollywood Reporter, a source claimed that the allegations of a toxic workplace during “The Idol” production reshoots affected Zendaya, who was urged by fans to distance herself from Levinson. “Her image is pristine,” an unnamed executive said. “And fans were turning against Sam.”
Additionally, Zendaya was reportedly frustrated by the delay in “Euphoria” Season 3 scripts from Levinson as he was in production on “The Idol.” Zendaya allegedly had a meeting with HBO executives Casey Bloys and Francesca Orsi to ask why the network was allowing Levinson...

On a sunny day last November, the grief-stricken family and friends of producer Kevin Turen gathered at the Forest Lawn cemetery in Glendale, then made their way to a reception on the Warner Bros. lot. At just 45 years old, Turen had been driving with his 10-year-old son in the car when he suddenly slumped over, having suffered a cardiac event. His son managed to stop the car and call for help.
A true cineaste with a zest for life and a long list of independent film credits (Arbitrage, The Birth of a Nation, Pieces of a Woman), Turen was beloved by many. Among the mourners that day were Robert Pattinson, Andrew Garfield and Zac Efron. Zendaya, the star of the biggest success of Turen’s career — the culture-rattling HBO series Euphoria — missed the funeral but attended the reception.

Several Max Originals were rebranded as HBO Originals earlier this year, and now ‘Dune: Prophecy’ and ‘The Penguin’ will join them.
Don’t look now, but it appears the HBO brand is rising from the dead. Warner Bros. Discovery has never tried to really kill HBO, per se, but the decision to name its new streaming service Max and drop the “HBO” from the title in 2023 raised more than a few eyebrows from observers. Now, the company appears to be slowly rolling back that change; in late June, the company announced that it was rebranding several Max Original shows as HBO Originals, but only for titles that were coming out in 2025 or later due to contractual issues. But a new report from Variety states that those issues have been ironed out, and that “Dune: Prophecy” and “The Penguin” — two shows that are set to debut later in 2024 — will also be...

Last month, we learned that the Harry Potter reboot, It prequel Welcome to Derry, and DC Studios' Lanterns were all making the move from Max to HBO. This apparent shift away from streaming shocked many, but two upcoming titles weren't mentioned.
Those were The Penguin and Dune: Prophecy, both of which are now also heading to HBO.
Due to contractual issues stemming from each series being sold to international outlets as Max Originals, it was seemingly too late to change things. Somehow, HBO and Max CEO Casey Bloys has made it work!
While The Penguin and Dune: Prophecy will still stream on Max, they're now being branded as HBO Originals and will premiere on the cable network in the same way as House of the Dragon and The Last of Us.
As Variety explains, Bloys watched early cuts of The Penguin and decided pretty quickly that it would be a better fit for HBO.

While the dramatic movements of projects at Warner Bros. seemed to have calmed down and despite some big decisions being made on gambles like Kevin Costner’s Horizon series, the studio is still working on some re-arrangement of their properties. It was reported earlier that upcoming series that were meant to be exclusive to the Max streaming app are now becoming HBO originals. Previously, all shows that were based on Warner Bros. IP fell under the Max umbrella, which felt like the most obvious way to separate the label from HBO. “We felt like we had to delineate between an HBO show and a Max show,” HBO and Max content CEO Casey Bloys said. “The idea of using Warner Bros. IP as a delineation for Max felt right. At least that gives you a clear lane. But as we started producing those shows, we were using the same methods, the same kind of thinking,...

We had learned last month that several Max Original shows are being rebranded as HBO Originals by Warner Bros. When Variety broke the news last month that HBO and Max content CEO Casey Bloys had changed the delineation between what an “HBO show” and a “Max show” is, there was an asterisk attached. Max’s big-budget, tentpole Warner Bros. IP projects like the “Harry Potter” TV show, the “It” prequel series “Welcome to Derry” and the Green Lantern adaptation “Lanterns” — were moving to under the HBO umbrella, but those coming before 2025 would not.
Here was the rub, much to Bloys’ chagrin: The two shows premiering this fall that had inspired Bloys to change his tune, “The Penguin” and “Dune: Prophecy,” couldn’t contractually make the switch. The shows had already been sold to international outlets as Max Originals, and those kinds of complicated deals are hard to unwind and revise.

A series set inside the prison Arkham Asylum within Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” universe will no longer move forward for Max, an individual with knowledge of the decision told IndieWire.
Antonio Campos, the director known for “Christine,” “The Devil All the Time,” and the Max series “The Staircase,” was previously tapped to be showrunner and director of the Arkham Asylum series. However, Campos is no longer involved, and his version of the series will not come to pass. The individual says it’s possible a different Arkham Asylum series could still happen down the road, including one set within the universe established by Reeves’ film. But Campos’ version is dead.
A rep for Max had no comment.

The planned Arkham Asylum TV series is no longer moving forward at Max, Variety has learned.
As Variety exclusively reported in October 2022, Antonio Campos had come onboard to serve as writer and showrunner of the series, which was originally meant to be set within the world of Matt Reeves’ “The Batman.” But according to an individual with knowledge of the situation, Campos’ version will not proceed. It is still possible, though, that a new project set within the infamous Gotham City asylum could be developed in the future, the individual noted.
Thus ends (at least for now) the show’s complicated path to the screen. It was originally announced in July 2020 with a series commitment, but at that time it was meant to focus on the inner workings of the Gotham Pd as featured in “The Batman.” Terrence Winter was attached to write and executive produce, but he left the...

The growing chasm between HBO and Max has widened to the point where you could fit a Mountain of Entertainment(™) through the two. But why would you want to?
Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount Global are engaged in talks to combine streamers Max and Paramount+, according to CNBC. Such a merger could be the lifeline Paramount+ so desperately needs and would bring HBO/Max closer to the magic 200-million-subscribers mark; Paramount+ has more than 71 million global streaming subscribers, Wbd’s direct-to-consumer platforms combine for about 100 million subs (most are Max). Or it could be a giant mistake that further dilutes the perceived quality of the former HBO Max.
When reached by IndieWire, spokespeople for both Paramount Global and Warner Bros. Discovery declined to comment on the CNBC report. The Max/Paramount+ conversations are not totally out of the blue. For a minute in December 2023, it looked like Wbd and Paramount Global might merge entirely.

After The Penguin‘s Max release this year, the new change in the delineation of Max and HBO shows will come into effect from 2025. Most of the Warner Bros. IP films will essentially move under the HBO banner, including one much anticipated Dcu series under James Gunn. According to an insider report, Lanterns will now be an HBO feature and other major Dcu series projects may also follow suit.
