Today a new promo poster for V/H/S, a horror anthology featuring horror shorts from directors Adam Wingard (A Horrible Way to Die), Glenn McQuaid (I Sell the Dead), Radio Silence (a group of directors including Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett, Justin Martinez, and Chad Villella), David Bruckner (The Signal), Joe Swanberg, and Ti West (The Innkeepers, The House of the Devil), has been released.

In the film a group of criminals are hired to break into a country home and retrieve a mysterious video tape. Every tape that they watch is more evil and sinister than the one before. The found footage style shows well so far in the V/H/S trailer. It sounded like a simple job but upon entering the house, they find a rotting corpse next to the huge assortment of scary videos. You have to see the trailer as it may be the scariest trailer of 2012 so far.

The last few months, we’ve been tracking the eventual VOD and theatrical release of V/H/S with extreme interest, and today is that day. Sound On Sight will once again be covering the SXSW Film Festival this year, making it our second time attending. We’ve already posted news that 130 feature films will screen at the Austin, Texas fest taking place March 9-17, including 65 World Premieres, 17 North American Premieres and 10 U.S. Premieres. Now the fest has announced their “Midnighters” line-up which includes Sundance premieres V/H/S and Don Coscarelli’s John Dies at the End, and Juan Carlos Fresnadillo’s Intruders, Paco Plaza’s [Rec] ³ Genesis, Timo Vuorensola’s Iron Sky… to name a few.

The South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Conference and Festival has announced the highly anticipated features in its Midnighters section, as well as the complete short films lineup, which will debut at this year’s Festival from March 9-17, 2012 in Austin, Texas.

The eleven films announced in the 2012 Midnighters program include a feast of titles that promise to rouse, haunt, and thrill the eager SXSW late-night audiences with an eclectic mix of thrills from genre filmmakers at the top of their game.

“Though our regular program already includes a healthy sampling of genre fare, the Midnighters section highlights those that go a bit crazier, gorier, and all-around balls out-ier,” said SXSW Senior Programmer and Operations Manager Jarod Neece. “This year's program includes both veteran names with anticipated follow-ups and fresh discoveries with new voices and charts otherworldly, insane territories that breathe new life into horror conventions.”

Following the announcement of the majority of South by Southwest’s 2012 line-up including Cabin in the Woods, 21 Jump Street, The Raid and Casa de mi Padre, the midnight section has been unveiled today. Most notably there is V/H/S, a horror anthology we enjoyed at Sundance (review here), as well as Clive Owen-starring Intruders and the third film in the [Rec] quadrilogy. The nazi space movie Iron Sky is also part of line-up and a “super secret” screening. This upside down poster for A Horrible Way to Die reminds artists to use the flip feature on your graphics, as character Sarah (Amy Seimetz) looks for the right way up. This feature is a serial killer thriller where Garrick Turrell looks for old friends, after escaping police custody. Instead of a fun reunion, there is much bloodshed and a culling of acquaintances.

A Horrible Way to Die will release on DVD and Blu-Ray September 6th (Dread) and here is your early look at this skewed project. Anchor Bay Entertainment will help satiate your horror appetite with this thriller, once Sarah gets cut down.

A Horrible Way to Die deals with an escape murderer who is in pursuit of his ex-girlfriend, who has fled to start a new life in a small town. The film was written by Simon Barrett who has written such efforts as Dead Birds with Henry Thomas and Patrick Fugit, but who has also worked on other films such as "Frankenfish".

A Horrible Way to Die has been Rated R for disturbing bloody violence and images, language, some sexuality and nudity by the MPAA.

According to Deadline New York Anchor Bay Films and Celluloid Nightmares have closed distribution deals in English-speaking terrotories for the Adam Wingard-directed A Horrible Way to Die, a thriller which premiered Wednesday night at Tiff's Vanguard program.

The flick starring Aj Bowen, Amy Seimetz, Joe Swanberg, Brandon Carroll, and Lane Hughes was written by Simon Barrett. The film has been executive produced by Zak Zeman and partially financed by his company Site B, LLC. Associate producers include our brother in harm Brad Miska from Bloody Disgusting.
