Abby Elliott has come a long way since her "Saturday Night Live" days. Since leaving the sketch comedy series in 2012, Abby has landed the sitcoms "Odd Mom Out" and "Indebted," as well as films like "Sex Ed" and "Better Off Single." Currently, she stars in the award-winning series "The Bear." In the show, Abby plays Natalie "Sugar" Berzatto, who is the coowner of The Beef restaurant. "It's really exciting to be a part of something that has touched so many people," Abby said about her involvement on the show during an August 2022 episode of "The Last Laugh" podcast. "[It's the first time I've been a] part of a project that people have really responded to in this sort of way."
Abby's success as an actor isn't surprising since she comes from a family of entertainers. Her father is comedian Chris Elliott, while her mother is actor and talent coordinator Paula Niedert Elliott. Abby is also the granddaughter of radio personality Bob Elliott,...

What's most scary about Clara's Ghost is not the titular apparition, but the dysfunction it represents, at least for a non-performing member of a cynical show biz family. The film is set largely in and around the Reynolds family home in Connecticut. We follow them during the course of a single evening as daughters Julie (Abby Elliott) and Riley (Bridey Elliott) gather with their parents Ted (Chris Elliott) and Clara (Paula Niedert Elliott). More than by the way, it's not a coincidence that all the lead actors have the same family name, since they are all members of the same immediate family in real life. And, however fictionalized the story may be, the characters themselves, as well as their cutting interpersonal dynamics, strongly resemble the...

The first trailer has been released for an interesting looking supernatural film called Clara’s Ghost. The movie has a very strange tone that lies somewhere between comedy and madness. There were mixed reactions to this film at Sundance last year, but if you like what you see in this trailer, you might actually enjoy this movie. Here’s the synopsis:
Set over the course of a single evening in the Reynolds family home in suburban Connecticut, Clara's Ghost tells the story of Clara Reynolds who, fed up with constant ribbing from her self-absorbed showbiz family, finds solace in and guidance from the supernatural force she believes is haunting her.
The movie stars Abby Elliott, Bridey Elliott, Chris Elliott, Isidora Goreshter, Haley Joel Osment, and Paula Niedert Elliott.
Clara’s Ghost will be released on December 6, 2018.

"Stop making fun of me!" Orion Classics has released the first official trailer for an indie horror comedy of sorts titled Clara's Ghost, which initially premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. I kept hearing some good things about this but haven't had a chance to catch up with it yet. Set over the course of a single evening in the Reynolds family home in suburban Connecticut, Clara's Ghost tells the story of Clara Reynolds who, fed up with her self-absorbed showbiz family, finds some solace in and guidance from the supernatural force that she believes is haunting her. The film stars Abby Elliott, Bridey Elliott, Chris Elliott, Isidora Goreshter, Haley Joel Osment, and introducing Paula Niedert Elliott as Clara. This actually looks pretty damn good, something a bit different with all kinds of crazy things going on. See below. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Bridey Elliott's Clara's Ghost,...

There are some really interesting ideas threaded throughout Clara’s Ghost, the new possibly supernatural (?) comedy from writer/director Bridey Elliott. Using the paranormal as a means of examining family dynamics, Elliott clearly wants to say something about motherhood, about selfishness, about the fear of being forgotten. Unfortunately, it only occasionally comes through in what is otherwise an abrasive comedy about abrasive people, like a Noah Baumbach movie that might have a ghost in it.
The movie’s cast is made up mostly of Elliot’s real-life family as they spend an evening in their Connecticut home: the writer/director also plays Riley, a former child TV star, and her sister Abby (of Saturday Night Live fame) plays her sister Julie, who is still a successful actor and is freaking out about her wedding in a number of months. Their dad, Chris Elliott plays their dad, also an actor, but...

Sometimes funny, sometimes frustrating, always honest, Clara’s Ghost–written and directed by Bridey Elliott–is doing a lot on a limited budget. It stars the entire Elliott family (sister Abby, father Chris, mother Paula and Bridey herself) over the course of one strange, drunk evening. With a brisk runtime and set almost entirely in a big ole house, plenty of character tangents are introduced and nothing is really resolved. In a way, it’s admirable in its messiness.
There’s the mother, our ostensible lead here, who feels invisible next to her famous family members. She’s also being haunted by a overly-metaphorical ghost. In an impressive turn from Chris Elliott, there’s the father, an ex-comedy star struggling with the ex part. There’s the sister, obsessed with herself and her upcoming wedding, portrayed by Abby Elliott, offering a bravely complex performance. And finally, there’s Bridey herself,...
