He fled from Afghanistan at the age of 14, and was helped by a friend of the family to escape. He became a refugee after the movie and is now living in Sweden, Borlänge. In an interview he said "I did not know where I wanted, just somewhere. I fled through Israel, Belarus, Lithuania, Poland and Denmark before I ended up in Sweden. Among other things, I had to swim across a river, I think it was in Belarus".
