DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn promised that Creature Commandos would be the first of many Dcu-based animated projects, and we may now know which character the next one will focus on.
According to Nexus Point News, an animated series centred around Deadman is in the early stages of development, though the site notes that no writers or scripts are currently in place and the show has yet to receive an official green light.
This wouldn't be the first time Deadman appeared in animated form, and the supernatural hero almost made his live-action debut on a couple of occasions. A CW series was in the works way back in 2011 before being shelved, and the character would have been part of the Justice League Dark roster in M3GAN director Gerard Johnstone's now defunct movie along with Swamp Thing, Constantine, and Zatanna.

New M3GAN 2.0 update incoming! Following the recent news that the MCU is set to expand with 90s style AI erotic thriller SOULM8TE, the killer android franchise's own Sacred Timeline is picking up a head of steam as production begins on M3GAN 2.0. The shooting news came via a creepy video of M3GAN's animatronic skull shared by Jason Blum on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. What's more, per Deadline's reporting, the horror movie — previously eyeing a January 2025 release — is now slated to hit cinemas on 27 June, 2025. And that's not all that's new with the synthetic slasher's sequel, either.
As confirmed by Deadline, Timm Sharp (Percy Jackson And The Olympians), Aristotle Athari (Silicon Valley), and Jemaine Clement have all boarded the cast for more stab-happy AI antics. They join previously confirmed cast returnees Allison Williams, Violet McGraw, and Jenna Davis, series newcomer Ivanna Sakhno (Ahsoka), and Brian Jordan Alvarez and Jen Van Epps,...

Remember the dancing yet murderous doll, M3GAN? Well, she'll soon be back in an upcoming horror film called M3GAN 2.0. This is the sequel to the box office hit M3GAN, and we can't wait to see it when it hits theaters on its (new) release date, June 27, 2025.
We first learned of a potential sequel back in November 2022 when The New York Times reported that Universal (the studio behind the film) was happy with how M3GAN turned out and was looking to make a second film. Then, in January 2023, M3GAN director Gerard Johnstone confirmed that talks were being had about a sequel in an interview with Collider. In that same interview, James Wan, writer and producer of M3GAN, mentioned that he had an idea of where a second film would go.

The sci-fi thriller M3GAN (read our review Here, get a copy Here) was such a financial success when it reached theatres in January of last year, it didn’t even take Universal Pictures and production companies Blumhouse and Atomic Monster two weeks to announce that they’d be re-teaming for a sequel. We’ve known that M3GAN stars Allison Williams and Violet McGraw will be reprising their roles in M3GAN 2.0, which is set to reach theatres on June 27, 2025 – and now, with filming underway, Deadline reports that Brian Jordan Alvarez and Jen Van Epps are also returning from the first movie. Spoiler Warning: M3GAN ends with the titular doll being destroyed, but if there’s one thing we’ve learned from the Child’s Play franchise it’s that killer dolls can never truly be killed!
M3GAN is a marvel of artificial intelligence, a life-like doll programmed to be a child’s greatest companion and a parent’s greatest ally.

Universal Pictures has just announced (via Deadline) release dates – in some cases, new release dates for movies that are shifting around on their schedule – for five upcoming horror films… and every one of them happens to be a Blumhouse production. The movies in question are The Woman in the Yard, Drop, The Black Phone 2, M3GAN 2.0, and Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 – and we’re about to go through them one-by-one.
First up is the thriller The Woman in the Yard, which was once set to reach theatres on January 10, 2025, but was bumped out of that date so the Blumhouse reboot of Wolf Man could move from this October to January 17th. Jaume Collet-Serra is directing the film, which stars Danielle Deadwyler of The Devil to Pay and Till, Okwui Okpokwasili of The Exorcist: Believer and I Am Legend, and Russell Hornsby of The Hate U Give and Fences.

It was probably only a matter of time before Atomic Monster and Blumhouse announced a sequel to M3GAN after the critically-acclaimed sci-fi horror movie performed very well at the box office, and we found out last January that M3GAN 2.0 was officially in development.
Now, Deadline is reporting that Ahsoka star Ivanna Sakhno has joined the cast. No details on her character were provided, but it is said to be a "major role." Sakhno joins the original movie's stars Allison Williams and Violet McGraw.
Sakhno played Force-sensitive mercenary Shin Hati in the Disney+ Star Wars series, and is expected to reprise the role for the second season.

Just when you thought the scariest thing you could have on display in your home as a horror fan was replica dolls of Chucky and Tiffany from the "Child's Play" franchise, Neca, Blumhouse, and Universal have taken things a step further with a life-sized replica of everyone's favorite Sia-singing robot slasher, the titular "M3GAN." According to the doll's lore, the Model 3 Generative Android (M3GAN) was designed by a gifted toy inventor named Gemma (Allison Williams) from high-tech Seattle toy company Funki and crafted to be a parent's greatest ally and programmed to be a child's best friend.

The sci-fi horror film M3GAN (watch it Here) was a box office success when it was released last year, earning $181 million at the global box office on a budget of $12 million and spawning a sequel that is set to reach theatres in May of 2025. The collectible makers at Neca are about to find out, because they have created life-size replicas of M3GAN and are selling them for $494.99. You can check out the product page at This Link. They only come along every once in a blue moon: the dueling movies. 1998 was an especially unusual year in that it saw two of them hitting theaters, with killer asteroid films "Deep Impact" and "Armageddon" going head-to-head within the same 12-month span as the animated insect flicks "Antz" and "A Bug's Life." There haven't been too many since then, save for the clash of the White House action-thrillers in 2013 with "Olympus Has Fallen" and "White House Down." Now, 2024 is bringing us the next big showdown between movies with remarkably similar premises.

Anyone who knows me would say my taste runs ever so slightly counter to the popular opinion but up top I wanted to shout out some big titles that I appreciate but didn’t quite make my favorites list. Oftentimes it feels like the days of true-blue horror icons are behind us, but Gerard Johnstone and Akela Cooper’s M3GAN was a veritable hoot that gave us an instantly iconic tiny terror in tights who more than lived up to the memes and showed everyone that hasn’t quite come around yet on HBO’s Girls just how #mother Allison Williams is. Also, that Skatt Brothers “Walk the Night” needle drop took up residence in my head last January and has not left. Talk to Me was one of the more intense in-theater experiences I had this year, and though it lost something the more I sat with it, what...

The year began, as they usually do, with so much promise. This was, after all, supposed to be the year that DC came roaring back, with Shazam! Fury of the Gods, the long-awaited The Flash, Blue Beetle, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Marvel had its own big slate. We were to be in a Shangri-La of screen superheroes. Yet in the end, it appeared the comic book movies failed audiences.
Or did they? Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, based on comics from the 1980s, is one of the top animated movies of the year. David Fincher’s stylish The Killer is based on a French graphic novel. And of course, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, is a towering achievement even beyond the medium of animation.
In other corners, movies based on toys, for the most part, are looked down upon and are considered jokes. But here, too, 2023 surprised us.

Happy New Year! 2023 has been a strange one at times, and while not the worst year in recent memory, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t ready to turn the calendar page and start something new. But that being said, there were a number of things over the course of this year that made it not only tolerable, but downright fun at times. I will always turn to art and media in stressful times, and 2023 gave me a great mixture of new films, exciting series and other projects that I found to be entertaining, enlightening, or even heart-touching.
M3GAN
2023 started off with a banger in the form of a sentient monster doll by the name of M3GAN. I haven’t had this much fun in a theater since 2021’s Malignant, which was also written by the great Akela Cooper. I had so much fun with this one.

The end of the year always brings about reflection, so it felt appropriate to recall the moments that helped define 2023 in horror. As in, the unforgettable moments that shaped the conversation whether through watercooler discussions or going viral on social media. Consider this a fun trip down memory lane before 2024 ushers in its own new wave of horrors.
These ten memorable horror moments stood out, and catapulted their respective movies, video games, or TV series into the public conversation.

M3GAN 2.0 is set to reach theatres on January 17, 2025 – and during an interview with Empire Magazine (with thanks to Collider for sharing the information), producer James Wan said we can expect to see the sequel lean further into exploring concerns about AI.
Based on a story crafted by Wan, M3GAN was directed by Gerard Johnstone from a screenplay by Akela Cooper (Malignant). The film has the following synopsis: She’s more than just a toy. She’s part of the family.
From the most prolific minds in horror — James Wan, the filmmaker behind the Saw, Insidious and The Conjuring franchises, and Blumhouse, the producer of the Halloween films,...

Due to the recently resolved writers strike and the ongoing Screen Actors Guild strike, Chucky season 3 (read our review Here) has had to be split in half because not all of the episodes have been filmed yet. The first half of the season just wrapped up, with episodes airing on Syfy and USA Network before streaming on the Peacock streaming service. The second half of the season is expected to air sometime in 2024. In our recent interview with Don Mancini (you can watch it in the video embedded above), the Chucky creator said he has ideas for season 4, which isn’t yet a sure thing, and dreams of making a Chucky vs. Freddy crossover movie. But during an interview with Variety, Mancini seemed to hint that another crossover is possible. Some time down the line, we might see Chucky face off with M3GAN!

One of the biggest horror hits in recent memory (and one of the biggest original hits of any kind for that matter) was "M3GAN." Produced by modern horror master James Wan and directed by Gerard Johnstone ("Housebound"), the film about an AI caregiver gone wrong captivated audiences in 2023, becoming the year's first bonafide blockbuster hit. Naturally, that means a sequel is on the way. Get ready for "M3GAN 2.0."
Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions were quick to give the green light to a follow-up after the first movie had a massive opening weekend at the box office en route to a $181 million worldwide total. Not bad for a movie made with a mere $12 million budget. As is almost always the case in horror, a franchise has now been born. With development currently underway, we're here to give you all the details you need to know about the sequel. Here is...

There’s something inherently unsettling about inanimate objects that move on their own accord. Especially if they happen to resemble people. Which is what makes dolls so perfect for the horror genre; the uncanny valley of it all heightens the fear response in audiences.
This week’s streaming picks belong to the killer doll subgenre. These pint-sized homicidal maniacs deliver plenty of scares, heart, humor, and occasionally a great fashion sense.
As always, here’s where you can stream them this week.

This Amicus Production feature sets its wraparound in an asylum, where a doctor arrives for a job interview. His interviewer subjects him to an unorthodox interview process, which entails four tales of terror. The episode of Best Horror Movie You Never Saw covering Housebound was Written by Eric Walkuski, Narrated by Jason Hewlett, Edited by Paul Bookstaber, Produced by John Fallon and Tyler Nichols, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
In January of 2023, cinemas were invaded by M3GAN, a horror-comedy about a feisty, and murderous, android companion that brought a fun new spin to the killer doll genre. While the film was a surprise hit at the box office, it had been in development for quite a while, dating back to the pre-pandemic days of 2018. Intriguingly, its director, Gerard Johnstone, had only one feature film under his belt up until that point. That feature was Housebound (watch it Here), a twisty, humorous thriller that deftly combined chills with laughs. M3GAN producers James Wan and Jason Blum were both thoroughly impressed by the tightrope the movie walked, and found Johnstone was perhaps...

S1M0NE.Recently my MacBook showed signs of malfunction that I feared were fatal. I rushed to the Apple Store, where I was promptly introduced to Isaac, Apple's in-store virtual assistant—that is, a handheld device—to sign off on what was apparently a very standard procedure. Fifteen minutes and three Geniuses later, I was informed that numerous attempts had been made to restore my MacBook to its factory settings, all of which had inexplicably failed. “It just didn’t want to die,” said one of the Geniuses, directing me toward the newer models available for purchase. “It must have loved being yours.” I walked home in a state of devastation—and surprise at my devastation, too. At my desk I unboxed the machine, which I knew was in many ways identical to my former MacBook but for now felt uncanny. Powering up the screen, I was reminded...

Drew Barrymore may not have hosted the MTV Movie and TV Awards, but she still had a presence Sunday night. The clip-heavy awards show featured several prerecorded skits starring Barrymore doing everything from dancing in “Wednesday” to reprising her role in “Never Been Kissed.”
Barrymore was originally slated to host the MTV Movie and TV Awards but dropped out of the event last Thursday, two days after the beginning of the WGA strike. At the time, the host of “The Drew Barrymore Show” said she pulled out of the event “in solidarity with the strike.” MTV likely planned to accompany Barrymore’s hosting duties with a batch of sketches that put the beloved stars into some of the biggest shows and movies of the past year. But watching the clips sans-Barrymore-as-host was still fun.

When released at the cinema earlier this year, M3gan was certainly promoted perfectly. The M3gan ‘dance’ featured in the trailer became a bit of a viral hit, and alongside mainly positive reviews, helped the movie make over $175 million at the box office – a huge profit. Now releasing on digital and Blu-ray is a new unrated version.
The story is pretty basic but that’s all it needs to be. A toy company builds a life-like doll that is sold to be a child’s friend as much as it is their toy. But before it is even officially released on the market, the Beta version of the doll is used by the designer’s niece and it soon starts to take on a life of its own.

Exclusive: New Zealand has long been known as a prime destination for big budget films such as Avatar and The Lord of the Rings thanks to its enviable locations, skilled crew base and generous 40% tax rebate. But, earlier this year when Avatar: The Way of Water was on its way to breaking multiple box office records as it climbed to its $2.3Bn tally, there was another New Zealand-shot project that was making a dent in the global box office chart. Universal, Blumhouse and Atomic Monster’s killer doll hit M3GAN amassed an impressive $176M worldwide from just a $12M budget after its January release.
While the film was set in Seattle, it was, in fact, shot in Auckland in 2021 after the pandemic forced the project to pivot from a Montreal shoot to New Zealand’s relatively Covid-free shores.. The nation is home to director Gerard Johnstone and it would be where the project would ultimately would find its 12-year-old star, Amie Donald, who plays M3gan.
“The fact we were able to find her in the moment that we needed to cast someone to play that role is, I mean, I don’t even know what the odds are, but they are very long,” says producer Judson Scott. “And to be able to find someone that is as capable as she is to do what we need to do but then also be as good of an onscreen presence that she is, is something you can’t really teach. You know, you just point the camera at her and the physicality and her presence is there. It’s an X factor – she has it. We’re just incredibly lucky and fortunate enough to have found that person in the city we were filming in.”
Donald, an Auckland native and national dance champion (whose skills came in handy for the doll’s viral dancing), brought M3GAN to life with the help of VFX, puppetry and animatronics. “She reminds me of old movie stars,” says Scott. “She can dance, she can perform all of these incredible stunts. Our stunt coordinator and movement coach was like, ‘This is incredible – we’re seeing something a lot of these people haven’t seen before.’”
The low-budget production, says Scott, was able to benefit from a crew that had worked on some of the biggest films and television shows to come out of the region.
“When we started this film, we were working with a lot of individuals who had done productions that are much bigger than ours on a much grander scale in terms of budget and what’s required of them to do,” he says. “We were incredibly lucky to be making what you would consider a smaller movie at the studio level with people that have won Academy Awards for working on Avatar, working The Lord of the Rings, working on Cowboy Bebop, working on the Rings TV show. So, we’ve been able to have access to those people to work on our smaller movie. We’ve been incredibly lucky that they brought all that knowledge to it.”
Producer Adam Hendricks says Auckland reminded him “in a lot of ways” of Los Angeles. “It’s sprawling, which is nice and also you get a bunch of different looks.”
He adds, “One of the things that I loved about the experience [in New Zealand] is it’s a very holistic idea of working on a film set. In the U.S. and in other places, every one of their different departments feels like they’re part of their different little fiefdoms – they seldom interact, let alone pick each other’s equipment up. But here, when the dolly trucks get moved, everyone comes and helps and when something needs to get done, everyone comes to the aid of the person that needs it and pushes it along. It’s very collaborative.”
Reflecting on the experience, Screen Auckland manager Matthew Horrocks, says the group is “incredibly proud of the role the Auckland screen sector played” in the film.
“M3GAN was shot in Auckland, making the most of our city’s forests, suburbs and city-centre locations, using Auckland studios and Auckland crews. There is even a star in the making in Amie Donald, who plays the M3GAN doll. The film is also a remarkable achievement for our own director Gerard Johnstone.
“From twice wining the 48 Hour Filmmaking competition, through writing credits on Housebound and The Jaquie Brown Diaries to working as a director on The New Legend of Monkey, Gerard has long been recognised as one of our finest talents. M3GAN is a new milestone in what is shaping up to be a stellar international career.”...

What's better than having one M3GAN to look after your child, provide some companionship, and also maybe commit the occasional murder out of a misplaced sense of protectiveness? How about five M3GANs?

You would have to be living under a rock to have not heard of M3GAN (check out our review Here). Every bit as outrageously entertaining as horror fans would expect from Housebound director Gerard Johnstone, Malignant writer Akela Cooper, and producers James Wan and Jason Blum, M3GAN danced into theaters the first week of January.
With a persuasive marketing campaign led by a buzzy trailer and a strong social media presence, the film performed beyond expectations, grossing $173.4 million worldwide on a $12 million budget. A sequel, M3GAN 2.0, was swiftly put into development for a January 2025 release.
Until then, viewers can now enjoy both the theatrical and unrated cuts of M3GAN on Blu-ray. The release also carries three making-of featurettes: “New Vision of Horror,” “Bringing Life to M3GAN,” and “Getting Hacked.” Despite running a scant 14 minutes in total, they pack in soundbites from a wide array of cast and crew members.

One of the surprise breakout hits of the year was the fun horror flick M3GAN, which puts a modern twist on a Child’s Play-esque concept with the doll having AI. Promotion of the movie went viral thanks in part to an eerie sequence of the M3GAN doll doing a TikTok dance down a hallway in an intimidating fashion. Not only did the movie score as a big hit for a modest-budgeted studio film, collecting $173.5 million at the box office, but there is now a sequel in development from the film’s director, Gerard Johnstone, that will be titled M3GAN 2.0.

Now ComicBook.com has caught up with director Gerard Johnstone to get a status update on the sequel – and during their talk, Johnstone said he’s excited to try to replicate the success of the first film.
Johnstone told ComicBook.com, “All I can say is that I’m here in L.A. and been thinking about it, working on it, and I’m just catching up with them this week to talk about it and do a debrief. It’s really important to do a debrief on the first movie, like a post-game analysis, and look at what worked and how we can do it again. I mean, Jesus Christ, it’s difficult to replicate the success.

Now here's something even a killer doll could sing and dance to. Mere months after the horror-comedy "M3GAN" came to theaters and swept the world of its collective feet with its brutally macabre, yet weirdly compelling story of a slightly too-clingy murderous android, fans are about to get the chance to relive all the thrills and scares through its official vinyl release. The popular record label Waxwork Records has unveiled their newest must-have release: the official "M3GAN" soundtrack from BAFTA-nominated composer Anthony Willis ("Promising Young Woman"), featuring exclusive artwork inspired by the film from artist Susi Vilchez, two colorful vinyl discs, and even more goodies for the vinyl collector nerds out there.
Directed by Gerard Johnstone from a script by Akela Cooper and James Wan, "M3GAN" stars Allison Williams, Violet McGraw, Ronny Chieng, Brian Jordan Alvarez, Jen Van Epps, Lori Dungey, and Stephane Garneau-Monten. The vinyl set is currently available...

When it comes to January film success stories, you can’t do much better than “M3GAN.” Gerard Johnstone’s AI-gone-wrong movie, which boasted a script from horror heavyweights James Wan and Akela Cooper, rode a wave of strong reviews and viral dance videos to become a box office-topping cultural phenomenon. In addition to proving that January releases don’t have to suck, it arguably gave rise to the first true Gen Z horror character. After all, there had been a million movies about creepy dolls — but as the marketing campaign was determined to remind us, this one could slay.
Amid all of the viral success, Cooper revealed that the film was almost a lot darker. While many of her gorier ideas were scrapped to maintain a PG-13 rating and keep characters alive for future sequels, she promised that an unrated cut of the film was on the way. Those plans...

If you thought the PG-13 version of "M3GAN" was mouthy, you might want to cover your ears for the unrated cut, now available on Peacock. Shortly after the surprisingly touching horror comedy hit theaters, director Gerard Johnstone and screenwriter Akela Cooper both made it known that the original script was gorier than what was shown in theaters, and teased the possibility of an unrated cut as much of the original gore was already filmed but edited out for a PG-13 release. Luckily, Blumhouse and Universal Pictures made the brilliant decision to release the gorier cut of "M3GAN" on Peacock, which is now available to stream.
There are some definite differences between the two films, some more noticeable than others, and may help make your decision whether to go with the theatrical cut or the new, unrated release. Obvious spoilers ahead, but there are the all of differences between the two versions of "M3GAN.
