Detroit hits cinemas in the UK 25th August and today we’ve been lucky enough to attend the press conference in London Town for the movie which has to be seen to be believed.
Actors John Boyega (Star Wars), Will Poulter (The Maze Runner), Hannah Murray (Game of Thrones) & Jack Reynor (Free Fire) were all in attendance alongside their Academy Award winning director Kathryn Bigelow (Zero Dark Thirty).
There was a lovely moment in the press conference where John Boyega recounted the first time he met Will Poulter…..
Detroit tells the story of the Detroit Rebellion of 1967 which saw the Michigan National Guard join both the State and local police to attempt to quash the uprising. The second act of the movie focuses on the events at the Algiers Motel which ultimately saw three young African Americans murdered.

And so after months, years in fact, of back and forth with rumours galore about whether Daniel Craig would again but on the famous tuxedo for a fifth outing as James Bond we finally have an answer – and it’s going to please a lot of people.
Coy for many months, and indeed during press just yesterday for his new film Logan Lucky, Craig spoke to Stephen Colbert last night on his chat show and delighted the audience by announcing that he was returning once more as James Bond 007. A simple “yes” was all anyone needed from him and that’s exactly what we got but the actor admitted that he had been talking to producers for a few months now to get everything right and now the word has come.

For anyone that loved Cannon Films in the 1980’s and their shlocky, grotesque but strangely enjoyable fare, Millennium Films are still flying the Golan-Globus flag some three decades later. Many of those who worked for the charismatic Israeli cousins during that manic few years through such “classics” as Invasion USA, Missing in Action, Lifeforce and Over The Top, are now part of Millennium and while a lot of their properties share much of its DNA, there’s an air of quality control with the new gang.
Their latest 21st-century Cannon-esque outing is The Hitman’s Bodyguard, another run-of-the-mill action-comedy that has all the hallmarks of being a little bit of a stinker from the off. But it’s with great joy that we can shake off those fears and proclaim the film one of the year’s most ridiculous but unabashedly delightful romps with two stars at the top of their powers.

Out of all the franchises that have come along in the last decade perhaps none were as big as Lionsgate’s double whammy of Twilight and The Hunger Games, at least in terms of its fan base. Based on the best-selling books, both rode the wave of the young adult sub-genre and were the stalwarts for the many Ya adaptations that followed.
But sadly as with most good things, both series came to a close and the studio, and indeed the fans, have been clamoring for both ever since. And they may all get their wish if Lionsgate have anything to say about it – and CEO Jon Feltheimer opened the door to new stories on Wall Street this week, saying to analysts: (via Variety)

It’s been a while since we heard anything about the future of the Divergent series after the previous installment, 2016’s Allegiant, was released in cinemas. Lots of rumours have circulated about what direction the franchise would take and it looks like we may have some answers this week.
While still in the “early stages” of development, Deadline states that Ascendant is set to find a new home with Starz and that the conclusion is being written and executive produced by Adam Cozad (Tarzan) and directed by Age of Adaline helmer Lee Toland Krieger, both of whom were attached the film version was planned.
The series began life on the big screen in 2014 with Divergent, based on the hit novels by Veronica Roth, which wowed audiences as part of the young-adult explosion at the time and grossed almost $290million at the worldwide box office. Then in 2015 the sequel,...

It seems Lionsgate wants in on the cinematic universe fad and looks set to turn its action series John Wick into the next big expanded franchise (well, they couldn’t do the same for La La Land could they?!)
The Hollywood Reporter has noted that the studio is looking at an outward expansion for the action thriller after it acquired the rights to a new action script called Ballerina. The female-driven thriller is written by up-and-coming writer Shay Hatten, who is currently working for Robert Downey Jnr’s production company as a writer’s assistant and who wrote the screenplay for Maximum King, a script he also wrote that recently was added to the Black List.
Ballerina would follow in the style of La Femme Nikita, Luc Besson’s acclaimed 90’s thriller, the script also has “stylised” moments closer to Quentin Tarantino and Matthew Vaughn. The story...

Everyone loves a superhero film these days – whether it’s Batmen, Wonder Women, Deadpools or Spider-Men – and it’s no surprise that Hollywood is continuing the trend by adding more to the ever-growing roster and Sony may have added their latest to proceedings.
Deadline is reporting that the studio is setting up a film based on comic-book Bloodshot. The comic is part of the Valiant Comics’ series and the studio is looking at setting up a shared universe based on them. And the site is reporting that they may have secured their first star in the form of Academy Award Winner Jared Leto.
Leto, who starred in last year’s comic-book villains team-up Suicide Squad as The Joker, is reportedly in talks for the film and would see him play Angelo Mortalli, “a mobster who is transformed into an unstoppable killing machine as part of a shady military project.

There has been far too much news this weekend coming in from D23 that it’s hard to keep up-to-date with the ins and outs of what the studio has announced – and as well as all things Marvel and Star Wars, the studio has made some inroads for one of their anticipated live-action remakes.
After reportedly struggling to find a cast for its upcoming Aladdin remake, the studio and director Guy Ritchie (King Arthur: Legend of the Sword) have finally found their leads for their “whole new world”.
First up, actors Mena Masooud and Naomi Scott are to take the lead roles of Aladdin and Jasmine respectively. While both have been acting in many films and television series’, they are still unknown enough to be considered “newcomers” with Masooud featuring in TV’s The 99 as well as starring with John Kransinki in the new Jack Ryan TV show.

The treats from Entertainment Weekly keep coming this week with the magazine posting a brand new photo of Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft in the new reboot of Tomb Raider.
The new film, which will show the origins of the legendary video-game character, sees Vikander take over from Angelina Jolie who played the character in the previous two films, released in 2001 and 2003 respectively. But this is a new and different Croft, showing her from her early days working an ordinary job before she embarks on a quest to find her archeologist father, played by Dominic West (The Affair).
Speaking EW, Vikander said the new Lara has all the traits you are familiar with but she has yet to find her true calling, saying:
“She has all the fierce, tough, curious, intelligent traits… but we’ve stripped away all of her experience. She hasn’t gone on an adventure just yet.

It seems that we won’t have to wait too much longer to see the next film from Quentin Tarantino as new reports suggest his next project might not be too far away from starting up.
The Hollywood Reporter has said that Tarantino is putting the final touches on his latest script which reportedly centres around the Manson Family murders that took place in the late ’60s. Details on the film aren’t known quite yet but part of the film will focus on the murder of Sharon Tate in 1969, who was the wife of Roman Polanski.
Harvey and Bob Weinstein, who has been involved in previous films with Tarantino, are set to be involved once again and that they are looking for co-financiers and distributors for the film.
In addition, reports suggest that a few big A-listers are being eyed for roles in the film. Brad Pitt,...

Released to an almost euphoric reception back in the summer of 2015, Mad Max: Fury Road became something of an event and has become one of the great action films of the 21st century. Talk of a sequel has been mentioned ever since, but it may be the prequel that beats it to filming.
Speaking about the film and the prospects of a Furiosa-led prequel whilst promoting her new film Atomic Blonde, star Charlize Theron has been chatting to Variety about her excitement about potentially returning to the shaven-headed character and says that it may become a reality much quicker than expected.
In an interview with Variety, Theron said:
“I’d love to. There were three scripts. They were written as backstories to Max’s character and to Furiosa’s character. But at the end of the day, this thing lives and breathes with [director] George [Miller]. I think Warner Bros. knows that.

Spider-Man, Spider-Man, does whatever the other Spider-Men can do! As expected over the weekend, Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures’ newest reboot of the comic-book franchise took over the worldwide box-office and has already become one of the biggest hits of the year.
Opening in over 4,348 cinemas, Spider-Man: Homecoming went straight into the No.1 spot at the Us box office with an estimated $117million over the three-day weekend. If the estimates hold, this would be the 2nd biggest opening ever for the franchise, jumping just above the 2002-original directed by Sam Raimi and starring Tobey Maguire as the webslinger.
The debut is also the 3rd biggest opening weekend of 2017, behind the $174million taken by Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and the $146.5million opening of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2. Indeed it sets the film up nicely for what could be a very big domestic cume with both Guardians Vol.

It’s going to be quite the year in 2018 for 20th Century Fox and Marvel with not one, not two, but three X-Men related films set to take over the multiplexes next year as they go full speed ahead into the comic-book world.
One of the films in the glut of those upcoming is X-Men: Dark Phoenix, the new film as part of the “new” X-Men franchise which sees producer Simon Kinberg make his directorial debut. Following the events of X-Men: Apocalypse, the latest entry will try to re-do the Jean Grey/Dark Phoenix saga that was somewhat unsuccessfully brought to the screen as part of 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand.
In that film it was Famke Janssen who played Jean Grey and the actress has been speaking about her experiences with the franchise and says that the original cast (namely her, Halle Berry, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan,...

Exclusive: Bong Joon-Ho & Seo-Hyun Ahn on the ‘idiosyncratic’ genesis of Okja & working with Netflix

After taking the Cannes Film Festival by storm in more ways than one, Netflix’s latest original film Okja is available on the subscription service this week. To celebrate its release, we spoke to its creator and director Bong Joon-Ho and star Seo-Hyun Ahn about the film.
The idea of Okja has been floating around the director’s mind for a few years now and while he was preparing the script for his previous film, Snowpiercer, it hit him in a strange way:
“It was 2010 during the screenwriting phase of Snowpiercer. I was in the middle of Seoul – huge place, 11 million people, too many people! – and I was driving in the middle of the city, suddenly it just hit my mind, the image of a huge animal. Originally it was much bigger than what you see in the movie too. Almost 30ft high but her face looks...

Okja tells the story of Mija (Seo-Hyeon Ahn), the decade-long caretaker and companion to a massive animal in South Korea. But when a multi-national corporation takes Okja from Mija and transports her to New York, Mija follows her to save her from the evil company’s clutches.
One of the people who tries to help her is Lily Collins and we sat down with her to chat about the film. There were many lures for the actress to be part of the film, not least the story, and director Joon-Ho, saying:

The fiercely private King was not only championing for equality, but also struggling to come to terms with her own sexuality, as her friendship with Marilyn Barnett (Andrea Riseborough) developed. And Riggs, one of the first self-made media-age celebrities, wrestled with his gambling demons, at the expense of his family and wife Priscilla (Elisabeth Shue). Together, Billie and Bobby served up a cultural spectacle that resonated far beyond the tennis court, sparking discussions in bedrooms and boardrooms that continue to reverberate today.
The film also stars Andrea Riseborough (Birdman), Sarah Silverman (The Book of Henry), Bill Pullman (Independence Day: Resurgence) and Alan Cumming (The Good Wife) and is set to open in UK cinemas on October 20th.

“I think it’s kind of fun to play a character 30 years later… The story, the themes, the stunning visual environments — it was a pleasure to get back in the world of Blade Runner again.”

It’s been a decade since the first entry into the Transformers cinematic franchise came into the hearts of the billions of fans it has accrued and like the giant robots that populate the film, the series has become a monolithic symbol of the ultimate summer blockbuster ever since. But ten years on does The Last Knight bring us full circle to the first film and give us a treat that’s most stimulating and visually impressive?
Well, for the first hour or so, its actual all rather good fun. It’s the typical Bay-hem you would expect but there is some actual story work going on with some characters, new and old, that make for some compelling moments – the world has disowned the Transformers since Optimus Prime’s defeat at the end of Age of Extinction. Cade Yeager (Wahlberg) has become an outlaw, heading off the...

Last night we joined the cast and crew on the red carpet of the special gala screening of War for the Planet of the Apes, held at the Ham Yard Hotel in London. Andy Serkis returns as Caesar, king of the apes, against the well-armed dregs of humanity for one final battle.
The latest modern Planet of the Apes film draw a close to one of the most surprising franchises in recent years. Serkis himself can take a great deal of credit, along with the geniuses at Weta, for the emotional heart at the centre of the trilogy. The CGI is of astonishing quality, and is backed up with some fearless performances.
We caught up with Serkis on the carpet, along with his cast mates Steve Zahn and Amiah Miller. We also got some time with director Matt Reeves, who will soon have his hands full in...

This hot summer’s evening the capital played host to the world premiere of Michael Bay’s latest Transformers movie, his fifth and supposedly last. The first film was released a decade ago, with a sequel following, on average, every two and a half years. The first film was helped in no small part by Steven Spielberg, whose suggestion to Bay to base the film about a boy and his first car set a relatable tone the series has consistently moved away from. Early word on Transformers The Last Knight suggests that the series has improved on its fifth occasion, and it really needs to.
With a Bumblebee movie diving into production (and attracting a teen-friendly cast) and over a dozen spin offs planned (seriously…) there’s never been a more glorious time to be a fan of metal hurricane deathmatches. Jumping on board to join Age...

Open Road Films have released a brand new trailer for their upcoming comedy-drama Home Again, which you can view in the player below.
Home Again follows the story of a woman (Oscar Winner Reese Witherspoon) who turns forty and was recently separated from her husband. She somehow ends up with three aspiring (and hunky) directors living under her roof and hilarity, and love, ensues.
