Born in 1955, graduate of HEC (top French business school) and
post-graduate degrees in film and political science, Michel Poirier
started his career as Deputy General Secretary for the Parafrance
chain( Paramount-Siritzky).
From 1982 to 1985, he was General Secretary for the A.F.P.F. (main association of French film producers at the time), then founded in 1985 and continues to head Les Films Singuliers, a production and distribution company that has produced or distributed films by Frederic Rossif, Peter Watkins, Christian Lara, Idrissa Ouedraogo, Rachid Benhadj, Jiri Menzel, Sogo Ishii, Marc Levie, Andre Klotzel, Atif Yilmaz, among others.
Michel Poirier was also co-founder of the film distribution company Les Films Pluriels.
From 2001 to 2005, he was managing director of the A.F.P.F. and is still a member of the board.
From 1995 et 2002, he has also been elected a Council Member of the city of Montreuil then a Council member for the county of Seine-Saint-Denis.
