When one thinks of quintessential actors from the 1980’s, odds are that Corey Feldman will come up in conversation. Really, it’s hard not to remember of some of his more well known roles in films such as The Goonies, The Lost Boys, Stand by Me and The ‘Burbs when recalling the decade that also brought us “Frankie Say Relax” and “Where’s the Beef?”
But to horror aficionados, he’ll be remembered as having taken part in killing Jason Voorhees. Granted, it’s something that’s happened several times since in the Friday the 13th franchise, but it was intended on being a definitive ending when the aptly titled The Final Chapter originally hit theaters.
Not surprisingly, Feldman is more than willing to reprise his role, this time as a grown up Tommy Jarvis in what he envisions as being this series’ “own kind of H20.” In other words,...

Last year, we showed Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter which began our Late Nite Grindhouse journey into the Tommy Jarvis arc. This year, we end that journey with one of the best entries of the franchise!
Years ago, Tommy Jarvis (Thom Mathews) killed infamous hockey-masked murderer Jason Voorhees (C.J. Graham), and the intensity of the experience has landed him in a mental institution. To end his torment and achieve a level of closure, Tommy escapes from the hospital and heads to the graveyard where Jason is buried, intending to dig up the body and cremate it. But, before this total annihilation can occur, a freak electrical accident resurrects Jason from the dead, and the terror begins anew.

Alternate timelines, MPAA evisceration, and a presumed dead cast member.
You know what they say, one man’s trash is another man’s reason to spend an entire Saturday marathon-Googling Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood. What? Ok, so perhaps I improved upon the maxim a bit, but that does little to change the fact that I recently happily tumbled down the internet rabbit hole to investigate the many controversies surrounding Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood.
For most people, the only real controversy here is that the Friday the 13th franchise was allowed to produce seven films in the first place; these poor folks are also apparently blissfully unaware that the entry count currently sits at 12. What is so rewarding about being a b-movie devotee is how often one can find fascinating stories buried under the oddest and trashiest flicks that most would deem cinematic afterthoughts.

[Hello, readers! With Valentine's Day just around the corner, we here at Daily Dead thought it would be fun to do things a little different this year. We're putting the spotlight on our favorite horror-loving characters from genre cinema, people who have represented our own fandom on screen and, in many cases, helped bring our passion for horror into the mainstream. Be sure to check back here on Daily Dead every day through Valentine's Day for our tributes to some of the greatest horror fans to ever grace the big screen.]
The history of horror movies is full of Monster Kids—those young boys and girls obsessed with all things horror who are, sooner or later, able to put all of their knowledge gathered from hours spent in front of Dracula, Frankenstein, and the Wolf Man to good use. From Tommy Jarvis in Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter to Paula in Neon Maniacs, the genre knows that the quickest way to our horror-loving hearts is through representation and identification: us fans love seeing some version of ourselves on screen acting out the fantasy of standing side by side with axe murderers and fantastic beasts. There are few things more satisfying to a young horror fan than seeing one of our own go toe to toe with a nasty creature and come out on top.
There is no better example of this in all of horror cinema than Sean Crenshaw, the...

Friday The 13th Part V: A New Beginning was supposed to screen Midnights this weekend at The Moolah Theater and Lounge (3821 Lindell Blvd, St. Louis, Mo 63108) as part of Destroy the Brain’s monthly Late Night Grindhouse film series but it has been postponed becasue of the weather until next weekend (January 20th and 21st).

In 1985, Jason Voorhees was dead. Despite the death of a horror icon, Friday the 13th fans still flocked to see the Jason-less A New Beginning in theaters that April, but while the box office numbers would justify a sixth film, many moviegoers were less than pleased by the lack of Voorhees behind the hockey mask, pining for the return of Crystal Lake’s former camper who only wanted to make mommy proud.
And so, Paramount Pictures began their search for a Dr. Frankenstein, someone who could bring the hockey mask monster back to life. As someone who grew up on Universal Monster movies and filmed his first feature in a mausoleum, Tom McLoughlin turned out to be exactly the bolt of lightning the studio needed to get Jason back on his feet.

Due to nasty weather that hit St. Louis this past weekend, we postponed our January Late Nite Grindhouse show a week to January 20th & 21st.
A New Year. A New Beginning.
Late Nite Grindhouse returns to the Moolah Theatre & Lounge with the continuation of the Tommy Jarvis trilogy. Last Friday the 13th, we presented Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter. If you have been living under a rock, you know it wasn’t the final chapter. Director Danny Steinmann (Savage Streets) directs the sleaziest entry in this popular horror franchise – if not the sleaziest in any of the slasher films of any franchise.
Still haunted by his past, Tommy Jarvis – who, as a child, killed Jason Voorhees – wonders if the serial killer is connected to a series of brutal murders occurring in and around the secluded halfway house where he now lives.

"This is between me and Jason. Come on, maggot-head!" For nearly every slasher villain, there is a protagonist looking to stop them. Freddy Krueger had Nancy, Michael Myers had Laurie Strode, and Jason Voorhees had Tommy Jarvis, who is brought to life in a new reveal video featuring Jason Lives actor Thom Mathews reprising his beloved role in Friday the 13th: The Game.

Given that Halloween is fast-approaching, I thought I’d put together a number of listicles couting down some of my favourite films to watch this horrorday season. First up are my picks for the ten best 80s horror films on Neflix.
Netflix has a great list of spooky titles available on the service including the likes of TV shows such as Stranger Things and Black Mirror: Season 3 (reviewed here), and new movies like Spellbinder, The Intruders and Felony; all of which join the likes of Carrie, Paranormal Activity and The Ring. It’s safe to say that when it comes to choosing a movie this Halloween, Netflix has you covered!
So, on to my list. In no particular order:
10) Humanoids from the Deep
n this creepy chiller, mutant fish monsters bring mayhem to a sleepy seaside community as they kidnap and mate with the town’s nubile teenage girls.

Friday the 13th: The Game, Gun Media’s crowdfunded horror game, has officially been delayed into 2017 now that the developer has mapped out plans to introduce a single-player component.
Prior to this announcement, the licensed title was pitched as a multiplayer experience first and foremost, with players having the choice of controlling one of the many hapless teenagers bound for Camp Crystal Lake, or the iconic, downright horrifying Jason Voorhees himself. Gun Media has now confirmed that, after securing the necessary funding, a single-player mode will feature when Friday the 13th: The Game touches down in spring 2017, even making room for Tommy Jarvis (Friday the 13th parts IV, V, and VI) and Packanack Lodge.
Those who have already pledged their support via Kickstarter will get the new mode free of charge, though new backers will have to pay an increased digital price of $40. The $60 physical price remains unchanged.

It’s hard to believe that the same year George A. Romero released Day of the Dead, the ultra-gory, ultra-bleak conclusion of the trilogy he began with Night of the Living Dead in 1968, writer/director Dan O’Bannon was spinning Romero’s original classic into a totally new direction with The Return of the Living Dead. Whereas Romero’s film is dark and sober, Return is pure punk rock anarchy—a horror comedy that successfully manages to be equal parts horror and comedy while introducing one of the most significant elements into the zombie mythos since Romero first made them flesh-eaters 17 years earlier.
The film’s ingenious premise—which was “meta” before being meta was really a thing—is that the events of the original Night of the Living Dead really did take place and were covered up, with the zombies locked into airtight drums and left in the basement of a medical supply facility.

“Jason’s body has disappeared from the morgue!”
Friday The 13th: The Final Chapter screens Midnights this weekend (May 13th and 14th) at The Moolah Theater and Lounge (3821 Lindell Blvd, St. Louis, Mo 63108) as part of Destroy the Brain’s monthly Late Night Grindhousefilm series.
Friday The 13th: The Final Chapter (1984), the fourth film in the venerable franchise, is considered by hard-core fans of the series to be the best, although it was hardly the “final Chapter” (there were at least 10 more). Directed by Joseph Zito (The Prowler) directed, which is indeed far above average by slasher standards and features a good cast of recognizable 80’s brat pack wannabes, including Crispin Glover (Back To The Future), Corey Feldman (The Goonies), Lawrence Monoson (Last American Virgin) and Judie Aronson (Weird Science). It also ranks as one of the goriest in the series, thanks to the return of makeup effects legend Tom Savini,...

To many horror fans, Kane Hodder is Jason Voorhees, and the four-time Friday the 13th actor will reprise his iconic role this fall in Gun Media’s Friday the 13th: The Game. With their game’s Slasher Backer Campaign underway, Gun Media recently released a behind-the-scenes video of Kane Hodder performing Jason’s kills in the game with motion capture technology.
In addition to the behind-the-scenes video, Gun Media has also unveiled two images of the game’s Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood version of Jason. Along with the images and video, we have the press release with full details:
Press Release: Lexington, Ky — Feb. 25th, 2016 — Friday the 13th: The Game showcases new kills performed directly by Kane Hodder, actor of Jason Voorhees along with launching Slasher Backer campaign to attain even more gory and brutal kills! The team wants to show what fans can...

Following the first reboot in 2009 and word of a second one currently in development, fans of the "Friday the 13th" franchise are patiently waiting for another go around with Jason Voorhees however they can get it.
Today comes word that Gun Media has launched a Kickstarter campaign for a "Friday the 13th" video game that would see Kane Hodder reprising the role after playing it in four of the sequels.
Makeup effects artist Tom Savini and the franchise's co-creator Sean S. Cunningham are also involved in the project. Set in the semi-open world of Camp Crystal Lake, it is described as a third-person, asymmetrical 1v7 multiplayer title where one player controls Jason Voorhees while the remaining seven control camp counselors trying to survive the night.
Fans can play as either Jason Voorhees or the seven camp counselors, and can ever create their own movie trailer based on the games they play.

The folks at Gun Media announced today that their slasher video game formerly known as Summer Camp is now set to be the first official Friday the 13th video game since 1989. Fittingly revealed on the 13th day of the month, a new announcement trailer and Kickstarter campaign for Friday the 13th: The Game have now been revealed.
Friday the 13th: The Game will bring some familiar faces back to camp, with Sean S. Cunningham, Tom Savini, Kane Hodder, and Harry Manfredini involved in the game's development, along with co-creator/designers Wes Keltner and Ronnie Hobbs and more.
Should it reach its $700,000 fundraising goal, Friday the 13th: The Game will feature a seven player experience in which one person plays Jason Voorhees and the other six take on the roles of camp counselors. Wow. So much has happened in Crystal Lake since our last visit. Mrs Voorhees got in over her head. Someone attempted to open another camp, a lot of people went to the lake to relax, and they’re all dead. Oh, and Jason, Mrs Voorhees’ son, isn’t dead. Maybe he didn’t even drown because he’s a full grown man running around the woods killing and maiming. Except for Tommy Jarvis, a young boy who killed Jason in part 4, The Final Chapter. But after the box office returns there was nothing final about that chapter.
Years after his deadly encounter with Jason Voorhees Tommy Jarvis (John Shepard) is being moved to the Pinehusrt Youth Development Center. Blood stains scrubbed away and its high body count shoved deep into knowing minds, Camp Crystal Lake reopened for business under the new name of Forest Green, and it might have been a sunny, scrapbook-worthy summer had a zombified Jason Voorhees not stomped back onto the grounds. With shotgun shells and balled fists unable to take down the reanimated killer, Tommy Jarvis and his new friend, Megan Garris, used the most lethal weapon of all against Jason: the lake. As fans of Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives well know, the goalie-mask-wearing murderer ends up confined to a watery grave with a sturdy chain and rock by film's end. For their latest Midnight Madness (24-hour) offering, Fright Rags is celebrating Friday the 13th once again with a T-shirt depicting Jason with arms outstretched in his serene underwater prison, waiting for the night when a telekinetic Tina Shepard will inadvertently free him.

Windows, open graves, the shimmering surface of Crystal Lake—Friday the 13th fans have seen Jason Voorhees attack from a plethora of places, but his new hiding spot is an especially surprising one: a coffee table.
Made by the folks at Australia's Slaughter FX in creepy custom fashion, this frightening Friday the 13th furniture piece features the top half of a post-Friday the 13th Part VI Jason Voorhees, with his exposed ribcage wrapped in Tommy Jarvis' chain and eerie eyes that might make you think twice about setting down your cup of coffee.

Taking a cue from Tommy Jarvis and his buddy Allen Hawes, the folks at Neca have sought out the dead version of Jason Voorhees and reanimated the Camp Crystal Lake killer (though they did so intentionally rather than accidentally). With New York City's Toy Fair in full swing and this past Valentine's Day Eve having been Friday the 13th, Neca recently pleased fans of Tom McLoughlin's take on the legendary machete-wielding maniac with their unveiling of a new Jason figure that replicates his zombified appearance in Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives, in addition to adding Jason to their new solar-powered Body Knocker line.

Halloween is almost upon us and there’s no better time of year to watch some of your favourite horror films, or better yet…discover something new to terrify you for the very first time.
These are ten films that I always find myself watching during the Halloween season.
1. The Universal Monsters
I’m cheating a bit here but try as I might I just couldn’t narrow it down to one. While none of these films are necessarily scary from a modern perspective, nothing gets me in the Halloween mood quite like a dose of good ol’ Universal Monsters.
Horror Trivia: Lon Chaney, Jr. played all four of the big monsters during Universal’s monster heyday. He played Frankenstein’s monster in The Ghost of Frankenstein, The Wolf Man in The Wolf Man, Dracula in Son of Dracula, and The Mummy in The Mummy’s Ghost.
Universal Classic Monsters:...

Dallas Comic Con's Fan Days 2014 wasn’t as hectic an event as May’s monstrous blow-out, but it still provided plenty of fun for attendees. Held back at the familiar Irving Convention Center, it was better organized than in the past and only had some minor issues.
The biggest draws of the week came from the media guests. After folks got over the disappointment of several canceled appearances, there still found plenty to do. A mini-Goonies reunion occurred with Corey Feldman and Ke Huy Quan sitting mere feet from each other. Sean Astin was in attendance as well, completing not only that partial reunion, but a Lord of the Rings one with fellow guest Elijah Wood.
Having met Corey Feldman years before at Texas Fearfest, I wanted to catch up with the busy former Lost Boy and Goonie. His new movie The M Word is about to come out on DVD for one.

Directed by: Danny Steinmann

Albeit, it was a small step, because maybe two people probably stumbled across it. Either way, I did it and I’m not ashamed. Matter of fact, I’m taking it to the big show by including it here. A weekly television series following the exploits of Jason Voorhees – how the hell is that supposed to work? The producers appear to have an idea for how to adapt Friday the 13th into a TV show, but I think I might have a few better ideas for how to transform Jason from horror icon to TV star.
The remakes, reboots, reimaginings, sequels, prequels, premakes, adaptations, and spin-offs that rule the big screen are taking over the airwaves like never before.
For horror fans alone "Bates Motel", "Hannibal", "From Dusk Till Dawn", and "Teen Wolf" have been turned into weekly TV shows, and soon "Scream", "Constantine", "12 Monkeys", a series based on the box office stinker Legion, and, yes, "Friday the 13th" will add to the fray.

Hailed by many as the best installment in the franchise, the film was directed by Joseph Zito, starred Corey Feldman, Crispin Glover and Kimberly Beck and introduced horror fans to Tommy Jarvis, a character who would resurface a few times in the series. To celebrate this birthday, let's reflect with some videos. Does The Final Chapter rank as your favorite in the series?

The Tommy Jarvis “trilogy” of Friday the 13th movies is among the franchise’s most popular. When looking at The Final Chapter, A New Beginning, and Jason Lives, it’s clear that we’re talking about three very different slasher movies—each with its own style.
They utilize the Tommy Jarvis protagonist in three very different ways, and there isn’t a massive character arc that strings them together, but they lend an air of continuity to a series that rarely bothered to have any.
Why does Tommy remain a consistent fan favorite? Examining the popular decisions of other franchises may help bring the issue into focus.
Surely we can agree that Dr. Loomis lends weight to the Halloween series as the boogeyman’s foil. He’s what every villain’s nemesis should be: resourceful, determined, and flawed. It’s this combination that I would argue makes him an enduring character.

If you haven't yet looked on your calendar, today is Jason Voorhees' favorite day: Friday the 13th. As tempting as it is to head out into the woods and go camping with some friends, I instead encourage you to wait out the day at home, and lock yourself in your bedroom until Jason's done doing what he's gotta do. In an effort to keep you in your computer chair, I thought it only fitting to give the Friday the 13th franchise the Must-Own Toys treatment today... a task that's quite a bit easier said than done. In fact, given that so many incredible Jason toys have been released over the years, this was no doubt the hardest time I've had to date when it comes to narrowing the awesomeness down to just ten selections. But just as Jason has to brutally slaughter any horny young teens who wander into his...

With a main feature that ran four hours and a bonus features package that extended the two-disc affair's total running time to a whopping eight hours, Never Sleep Again became hands down the greatest horror documentary ever made, providing even the most die hard of Fred-heads with a wealth of knowledge that had never before been injected into those little suckling mouths on their arms. I can say this with 100% certainty because I am one of those lifelong Freddy fans, and I learned more from that documentary than I ever thought it was possible to learn. The final battle in Freddy vs Jason may have ended in a duel, even if Freddy was left without a body, but the no contest winner of the franchise documentary war was Never Sleep Again, which made...

Horror films are probably the worst offender for throwing, logic, caution, and good sense to the wind, but that is one of the many reasons we love watching them. Horror movies provide us a form of escapism and the opportunity to be entertained without straining our brains too aggressively. The point at which we must suspend our disbelief the most is almost always the resurrection scene at the beginning of any sequel; the killer comes back to life, usually by some outrageous stroke of stupidity on the part of some poor schmuck. Once that bit of obligatory business is out of the way, the audience is free to enjoy the killer cutting his way through the cast of characters until one valiant and virtuous young woman remains to send the killer to another (temporary) demise. There are some great and highly inventive resurrection scenes in horror film history; the instances...
