"We're not criminals, we're sanitation workers taking out the trash." Vertical Entertainment has revealed an official trailer for an indie action thriller titled Sanctioning Evil, from filmmaker Ante Novakovic. This has such a strange concept and all the synopses are extremely vague in actually describing what's going on. After being dishonorably discharged from the U.S. military, a Staff Sergeant finds his way back into society through a charismatic politician deploying a covert military operation to eliminate an underground criminal entity on U.S soil. So he's recruited to kill someone this politician doesn't like, but why? Which side is on? What's the message here, what exactly is it trying to say? This stars Tobias Truvillion, Zach McGowan, Taryn Manning, Ebony Jo-ann, Chris Tardio, Carrie Kim, Kyle Sharp, Tasha Lawrence, Kresh Novakovic, and James Biberi. This trailer only make everything a bit more confusing trying to decipher who's who and...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Resident Season 5, Episode 16 “6 Volts.”] It’s now been three years — in-show for The Resident — since Nic’s (Emily VanCamp) death, but that doesn’t make dealing with his grief any easier for her husband, Dr. Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry), as he learns in the latest episode. Conrad admits to Pastor Aaron Deering (Tobias Truvillion), whom he’s spoken with before, that he’s back in fresh grief, but he doesn’t know what set it off. Despite his medical emergency, Aaron forces Conrad to talk to him while he’s waiting. Have there been any big recent changes in his life? Crazy work stuff, he admits, and sure, that’s one way to describe an FBI-related incident. Is he seeing anyone? “One, nothing serious,” Conrad says. “Potentially others, they all come with complications.” But as Aaron points out, there were complications with Nic. “Yeah, but the baggage was mostly mine,...

Overlong and erratically paced, Brendan Kyle Cochrane’s New York City-based “Equal Standard” opens with a self-conscious scene that heavy-handedly hints at an impending tragedy. There in the sun-dappled kitchen of the happy Jones family, Detective Chris (Tobias Truvillion), Sergeant Jackie (Syleena Johnson) and their adorable daughter lovingly go about their rosy morning routine, while an over-sentimental score embellished with stark notes of caution (one of the film’s various recurring motifs of unsubtlety) accompanies the perfect picture. As the doting husband and wife exchange their daily goodbyes before taking off for their high-risk professions, there is so much weight and emphasis placed on the concerned Jackie when she says “Be safe” that you prophetically know Chris is soon going to need that advice.

Will Jamal Lyon be singing the sound of silence when Empire returns for Season 3 this fall?
After all, when last we saw Jussie Smollett’s rising pop-star character in the Season 2 finale, he’d vowed to hang up his mic until his troubled family ended its cycle of violence and treachery — then made good on said promise by failing to perform at his father Lucious’ twisted nuptials to ex-fiancée Anika (who happened to be carrying Lucious’ grandbaby).

Showrunner Ilene Chaiken promises Jamal will “continue to dig in his heels” on that front.

Continuing with previews of noteworthy films scheduled to screen at the upcoming Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles (Paff), from Feb 16 to the 23rd…
As I said in previous posts, we’ve profiled (and continue to write about) several of the films screening at the festival, including screening opportunities… Like this one, which I initially alerted you to in April 2009 - Russell Costanzo‘s The Tested which stars Aunjanue Ellis, Armando Riesco, Frank Vincent, Michael Morris Jr, Annie Parisse, Nathan Corbett and Tobias Truvillion.
The short synopsis reads: “A life shattering tragedy sends three people on vastly different paths to a similar goal of redemption and understanding.”
Further… A New York City cop accidentally kills an unarmed African American teenager (certainly topical); the film’s plot then picks up a year after the incident, as we follow the lives of 3 people linked to the incident (the cop, the victim’s mother,...

This week, the official line-up for the 2010 Woodstock Film Festival was announced and looks to showcase a handful of emerging talent as well as East Coast premieres of Welcome to the Riley's and Stone, starring Robert de Niro and Edward Norton. See, it's not all hippies.
We had a chance to talk to Tobias Truvillion, one of the stars of The Tested, which will also have its premiere at Woodstock. The Tested threads three characters arc into one intertwined narrative: Julian Varone (Armando Riesco, National Treasure), a plain clothes cop who one year ago, gunned down an unarmed teen, Darraylynn Warren (Aunjanue Ellis, The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3), the teen's grieving mother and Dre her younger son who begins to toy with ganglife.
Truvillion plays James, head honcho of the gang that draws Dre in - and he's not some cliche bad guy. Here's how Truvillion helped turn...

While the film title is a little misleading -- Truvillion hails from Queens -- this brother is fine indeed. Truvillion recently brought his soft, brown eyes and gorgeous, full lips to Essence headquarters to tell us about his upcoming film project and why he "loves sisters so much." We love you too, baby. Here's what you had to say: Jasmin: "We'll, alright! Thank you for the love Tobias. Yes, yes!" Lauren: "[Tobias is] An amazing man, truly. I wish there were more around here."...
