BET+ has set premiere dates for its fall slate of films and new and returning TV series.

First on the list is “Love & Murder: Atlanta Playboy,” a film series starring Taye Diggs. Part 1 debuts on Sept. 21 while Part 2 will arrive on the streamer a week later, on Sept. 28. The films follow an investigation into the murder of Lance (Diggs), a successful Atlanta businessman known both for revolutionizing the city’s 911 system and for being a womanizer. The cast also includes Keesha Sharp, Ciera Payton, Apryl Jones, Ernestine Johnson, Nicole Lyn, Robert Brown, Tye White, Anton Peeples, Yung Joc, Karlie Redd and Yandy Smith. Jaira Thomas directs scripts from Gregory R. Anderson. Mona Scott-Young and Eric Tomosunas executive produce, with co-executive producers including Lorisa Bates, Marvin Neil, Stephanie R. As Call Her King opens Judge Jaeda King is having a bad day, she got smacked around at her martial arts class and then her husband tries to join her in the shower which leads to a major argument. Exclusive: BET+ has picked up rights to the previously unannounced action thriller Call Her King, starring Naturi Naughton (Power Book II: Ghost) and Lance Gross (House of Payne), slating it to premiere exclusively as one of the platform’s originals on July 6.

More than two decades after the premiere of Universal’s The Best Man, fans will revisit with the cast in Peacock‘s limited series The Best Man: The Final Chapters premiering on December 22. The streamer released the first official trailer above.

Based upon the eponymous film franchise written and directed by Malcolm D. Lee, the 8-episode series will catch up with the beloved cast as relationships evolve and past grievances resurface in the unpredictable stages of midlife crisis meets midlife renaissance.

Writer/producer Joseph “Taheim” Bryan, who recently helmed the Ice-t action film Equal Standard, was shot to death in New York City late on Thursday night.

Bryan was sitting in his new Mercedes-Benz when the incident occurred at 11:15, the New York Post reported.

“MFs Killed my friend last night,” Ice-t wrote in a tweet Friday night above a photo of himself with Bryan, co-star Tobias Truvillion, and rapper “Havoc” of Mobb Deep.

Directed by Ante Novakovic, the story centers on Staff Sgt. Barnes (Truvillion), a recently discharged Army veteran who finds his way back into society via a charismatic congressman named Ambrose (McGowan). Barnes and Ambrose walk a fine line between covert military operations on civilian soil and unsanctioned retribution toward an underground criminal element, all while being tracked by FBI special agent Kensington (Manning).

Set in a New York legal aid office, In Contempt follows outspoken attorney Gwen Sullivan (Ash) as she deals with complicated cases. She works with quick-witted and egotistical lawyer Charlie Riggs (Christian Keyes) and gets advice from her stern father, Earl Sullivan (Richard Lawson), a former judge. Additional cast members include Daniel Kash, Megan Hutchings, Mouna Traore, Ronnie Rowe Jr., and Tobias Truvillion.

The Tested, based on the award-winning 2005 short film of the same name directed by Russell Costanzo and starring Aunjanue Ellis, Armando Riesco, Tobias Truvillion and Michael Morris Jr, will be available on DVD on July 24 this year. The film, which explores the complex relationship between mother and son grieving a family member, screened at the New Voices In Black Cinema Festival back in February. We had a chance to talk to Tobias Truvillion, one of the stars of The Tested, which will also have its premiere at Woodstock. The Tested threads three characters arc into one intertwined narrative: Julian Varone (Armando Riesco, National Treasure), a plain clothes cop who one year ago, gunned down an unarmed teen, Darraylynn Warren (Aunjanue Ellis, The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3), the teen's grieving mother and Dre her younger son who begins to toy with ganglife.
