Netflix has unveiled the full-length trailer for The Witcher spinoff Blood Origin.
The footage dropped Saturday at Brazil Comic Con, and fans were introduced to a prequel set 1,200 years before the events of the original Netflix series.
The moment that will likely get everyone talking is the arrival of Joey Batey as Jaskier in the closing moments.
It's a big moment and suggests Jaskier will play a pivotal role in telling everyone about the events of the troubling time before humans existed in the Witcher universe.

Netflix dropped a new “The Witcher: Blood Origin” trailer at Ccxp down in Brazil on Saturday, offering a closer look at the four-part prequel event series and revealing that fan-favorite character Jaskier (Joey Batey) from the flagship Netflix series makes an appearance.
Set in an elven world 1200 years before the world of “The Witcher,” “Blood Origin” will tell a story lost to time – the creation of the first prototype Witcher, and the events that lead to the pivotal conjunction of the spheres, when the world of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one.
By the looks of this trailer the show is a bit more action/martial arts-heavy than the Henry Cavill-fronted original series, but it also looks to offer up answers to big questions posed in “The Witcher” – namely what in the world are those monoliths and what do they do.

"They're harvesting energy." Saban Films has debuted the trailer for an indie sci-fi thriller titled Project Ithaca, which seems to fit in with Netflix's "Love, Death & Robots" series more than anything. First titled Grim Trigger in development, the film is about a group of strangers who awaken on an alien spacecraft. They must figure out what's going on and how to escape, or they'll be trapped there and tormented forever. Or something like that. This looks a bit like the "Beyond the Aquila Rift" short from "Love, Death & Robots", and io9 describes it: "the idea behind Saw, set it on a spaceship, replace torture devices with psychological torment." Starring James Gallanders, Deragh Campbell, Daniel Fathers, Alex Woods, Caroline Raynaud, Konima Parkinson-Jones, Greg Ellwand, and Sofie Holland. This looks okay, though I'm not sure if it's going to be as good as it truly should be with this concept.

Void. “A completely empty space”… according to a quick Google search. Well, not so much, when it comes to art. In fact many an artist, whether it be in words, paint, sound, or pictures, have tried to fill it since mankind slithered out of the primordial soup eons ago. The attraction may be it is the blankest canvas of them all. And possibly the darkest…
The Void is the latest leap into the “empty space”, which lands chin deep in B-movie tentacle stew. Cooked up from the minds of Jeremy Gillespie and Steve Konstanski, both on writing and directing duties, and pretty much everything else. Their backgrounds are in art direction and practical effects, and they deftly handle the practical “Lovecraftian” creatures and blood splatter; lovingly dished up from the pages of a John Carpenter inspired recipe book.
The story begins at the dead of night with police officer Daniel Carter...

I was recently comparing directorial culture today with that of the 80s and 90s, referencing how new technology has allowed a disintegration of the old school “pay your dues” mentality. Forty years ago you had artists working their way up under the tutelage of established directors through the more niche technical departments. See James Cameron (matte painter on Escape from New York) and Joe Johnston (visual effects on Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark) as examples. I’m not saying this type of mailroom intern to studio executive evolution isn’t still possible or relevant, just that young filmmakers can currently make a calling card film like the $750,000 budgeted Safety Not Guaranteed and find themselves helming a $150 million blockbuster like Jurassic World in only three years.
Is that talent? Luck? A bit of both, surely. But I still admire the idea of learning before jumping, earning the big...

When practical effects drive a film’s talking points, I pause. Gruesome monster designs and caved-in prosthetics merely supplement story, yet a film like Harbinger Down piles all its eggs into one blood-soaked basket. Fans yearn for realistic SFX, and filmmakers always aim to dethrone The Thing‘s bar-setting kingship. But at what cost? Take Astron-6’s The Void. Jeremy Gillespie and Steven Kostanski create Lovecraftian hellbeasts from synthetic molding, yet a cultist presence could have used more fleshing out. Bodies splatter, character structures crumble and visuals outweigh storytelling.

I've been hearing a lot of great things about this upcoming sci-fi horror thriller called The Void. The movie is a throwback to the classic '80s horror films that many of us grew up enjoying, and it comes completely old-school crazy gory and bloody practical FX. The film is being compared to the classic horror films of John Carpenter and Clive Barker.
The story centers around a group who are fighting to survive in a hospital where people are turning into insane-looking monsters from hell. It definitely looks like the kind of twisted and demented horror film that I'd enjoy. Here's the full synopsis:
Encountering a blood-soaked man on a dark deserted road, a police officer rushes the victim to the local hospital. Soon the staff and patients are trapped by a terrifying, otherworldly threat and forced on a hellish voyage into the depths of the building to escape the nightmare.

"Who are they?" "There is something calling them all here..." Screen Media Films has debuted a brand new full-length trailer for the horror film The Void, which is a gnarly throwback to old school horror from the 80s with nasty practical effects, and gross gore galore. The Void is co-directed by Jeremy Gillespie & Steven Kostanski (both from Canadian filmmaking collective Astron-6), and is a mind-bending sci-fi horror thriller about a small town overrun by some "otherworldly threat". "You will become something remarkable." Plenty of eerie body horror is teased in a hospital under siege in the official, full-length trailer for The Void, giving viewers a deeper look into the new film following the teaser trailer released last month.
"The Void, written & directed by Jeremy Gillespie & Steven Kostanski, stars Aaron Poole, Kathleen Munroe, Ellen Wong, Kenneth Welsh, Evan Stern, Daniel Fathers & Grace Munro.
When police officer Carter (Aaron Poole) discovers a blood-soaked man limping down a deserted road, he rushes him to a local hospital with a barebones, night shift staff. As cloaked, cult-like figures surround the building, the patients and staff inside start to turn ravenously insane. Trying to protect the survivors, Carter leads them into the depths of the hospital where they discover a gateway to immense evil."
Horror fans can enter The Void when Screen Media Films releases the movie in theaters and on VOD beginning April 7th.

With horror recently enjoying an arthouse renaissance, another film that looks to fit the bill will arrive this year. The first teaser trailer for director Jeremy Gillespie’s (Father’s Day) latest horror film The Void has now arrived. Last year, the film stopped by Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas where it made an blood-splattered impression with comparisons to the work of John Carpenter.
This first teaser, although quite brief, packs a punch with no shortage of effective imagery, including some eye stabbings, body horror, and the threat of the Kkk, while also packing some sci-fi elements. Set for a U.K. debut at the end of next month, we’re still waiting a U.S. release, but in the meantime, check it out below with a hat tip to Birth Movies Death.

“There is a hell. This is worse.” Welcome to The Void, Jeremy Gillespie and Steven Kostanski’s indie horror flick that has today conjured up its first, truly unsettling teaser trailer.

Fantastic Fest 2016 Review: The Void is an Ambitious and Unexpected Treat for Old-School Horror Fans
I love going into movies knowing as little as possible, which was certainly the case for Jeremy Gillespie and Steven Kostanski’s The Void, which screened on the opening night of this year’s Fantastic Fest. The duo have collaborated on some intriguing indie horror movies as of late, including Manborg and Father’s Day, and without ruining too many of the surprises that the duo keep throwing at viewers the further along they take you on their latest wildly unexpected story, what I can say is that The Void is easily one of the more ambitious indie horror movies I’ve seen as of late. It feels like a movie you’d find on the video store shelves of yesteryear alongside films like Phantasm, Prince of Darkness, Hellraiser I and II, or even In the Mouth of Madness.

"Orphan Black" has never met a twist it didn't like. And for a show with a very twisty pedigree, the penultimate episode of season three has its fair share. In this episode there were betrayals, ultra-violence, mistaken identity, and a song thrown in for good measure. Just another week in the Clone Club. Packed between all the twists was a lot of good stuff this week. Episode director Vincenzo Natali ("Hannibal", Splice) brings a distinct style to the show. He works within the visual vocabulary already established by the previous 28 episodes, but stages the action (or doesn't stage in one notable scene) in ways that are brutal yet appealing. As Terry (Daniel Fathers) is beaten and tortured, Natali's camera is more concerned with moments that represent the brutality rather than subjecting the audience to the complete, horrifying picture. He is also able to raise the tension across multiple scenes just...

The gang returns for Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam, and there are new faces, a new camp across the lake, and a new batch of songs to fuel the campy productions and teen antics. As syrupy as this strange, mid-budget excuse to string together music videos with Demi Lovato and the Jonas Brothers may be, it’s actually a pretty fun vehicle, and the kids are sure to love it.
Oddly, there is more meat to this run through than the original, and while the addition of a new camp rivalry may have much to do with that, I suspect it is mostly because returning to camp offer more to work with than simply going to camp.
Mitchie (Lovato) is bursting with excitement upon returning to Camp Rock, and the idea of jamming it up in the woodsy setting is all she can think about. Well, apart from seeing her friends again…...

The unrelenting strength with which Disney markets its rising tween stars has the magical ability to awe and horrify all at once. The awe stems from the unmatched capacity for creating vehicles specifically tailored to promote their Disney-branded youth simultaneously in the film and record industry. No one else does it like them. The films aren’t any good, a fact seemingly dictated by some unwritten rule, but they do well enough to snag the attentions of every adolescent and tweenage girl in North America and beyond as well as their parents. It’s harmless fun and it encourages people to believe in themselves and follow their dreams – what’s not to support? That’s the benefit of this current string of Disney musicals pouring out Mickey Mouse’s run-off pipe, but what makes it so horrifying is the lack of effort and the blinding simplicity of the writing. It...

It only seems like yesterday that my younger brother and sister were going bananas over Camp Rock, starring Demi Lovato, Joe Jonas, Alyson Stoner and Nick and Kevin Jonas. In fact it was last year, and in true Disney “High School Musical” style a sequel to the film has already been announced!
The imaginatively titled Camp Rock 2 The Final Jam will feature a new writer And director, but fans will be happy to hear that Demi Lovato and The Jonas Brothers are both returning for the film. According to THR, Camp Rock 2 The Final Jam sees Lovato and Joe Jonas return to camp rock for the Summer only to find many of the students and instructors have left in favour of nearby Camp Star!
Other cast members returning for the sequel include Meaghan Jette Martin, Maria Canals-Barrera, Alyson Stoner and Daniel Fathers. Joining them this year will be...

Principal photography is underway in Toronto for Pontypool, a new film from director Bruce McDonald (Highway 61, Roadkill and recently, The Tracey Fragments, with Ellen Page). "It is set in a radio station in Pontypool and our morning team took reports in of extreme and bloody incidents of violence. The reason for this violence is that the English language has become infected with a virus," McDonald tells 680 News in an interview. From a script by Tony Burgess, the film stars Stephen McHattie, Daniel Fathers, Georgina Reilly and Beatriz Yuste. The great news is that Pontypool should be ready in time to debut at the Toronto International Film Festival, hopefully we'll catch it if it screens.
