- Dieter Wedel was born on November 12, 1942 in Frankfurt am Main, Hesse, Germany. He was a director and writer, known for Der Schattenmann (1996), Der große Bellheim (1993) and Einmal im Leben - Geschichte eines Eigenheims (1972). He was married to Uschi Wolters. He died on July 13, 2022 in Hamburg, Germany.

- Wedel has often been accused of plagiarism, because of strong similarities in his 'original' screenplays - including identical scenes and dialogues - to successful Hollywood features. In one case the author Stefan Esser, who once wrote a screenplay exposé for Wedel, accused him of stealing his work for Mein alter Freund Fritz (2007). In another case the author Manfred Zach successfully sued Wedel in court, because he could demonstrate that parts of Wedel's screenplay for Die Affäre Semmeling (2002) were taken from Zach's published book.
