Oh my goodness you guys. I don't know what to say right now. I am all up in my feels right now, and unfortunately not in the good way. The Outer Banks season 4 finale is definitely the best one this season, and one of the best in Obx's history. But it's also the most heartbreaking one we've had ever. Gosh there's so many moments where Groff could have been killed, but this horrible man has nine lives or something. The first is when he got back into the custody of Dalia and her crew. They should have just killed him right then and there. But no. We wait until Morocco and Lightner is beating him up really good. Honestly, he deserved that and so much more. It was fun watching.

While the Pogues race to Morocco to find the Blue Crown, an unexpected tragedy strikes that will cast a shadow over the show's forthcoming fifth and final season.

In its feature-length season 4 finale, Outer Banks takes the biggest swings yet, and that's saying something for a show that constantly aims for the fences. If you're still in a state of shock and processing what just happened in the finale, we're going to dive into the two most urgent takeaways from the finale and look at what's ahead for the Pogues in season 5.

Outer Banks season 4 part 2 picks up immediately after episode 5, “Albatross,” when Luke Maybank (Gary Weeks) reveals to JJ that he’s the son of Larissa Genrette (Tommi Rose) and Chandler Groff (J. Anthony Crane).

In the first scene of Outer Banks season 4 episode 6, “The Town Council,” we get a flashback to baby JJ. Luke helps soothe JJ while Larissa struggles with her relationship with her husband. Luke grows close with Larissa before Groff reveals she’s not doing well. Groff brings JJ to Luke’s house to give his parents a break.

Groff pays Luke to take JJ behind Larissa’s back, which is a bit strange, right? Like, it’s straight kidnapping. Larissa reportedly drowns with her son, which is not true because obviously Luke has JJ. Groff convinces Luke to keep JJ without telling the Genrettes that he’s alive.

Three years after releasing the instrumental, “Scent of Dark,” Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi has released another solo song, also an instrumental titled “Deified.” The song begins with Iommi’s signature doleful blues soloing before kicking into a doomy groove. Then in comes a classical choir, recalling Black Sabbath’s orchestral-metal interlude “Supertzar,” off 1975’s Sabotage, which the band used to open concerts throughout the late Seventies. “Deified” sounds grimmer, though, and Iommi’s solos throughout plumb dour new emotions.

One Piece is a rare success for Netflix. After a string of failed anime adaptations like Cowboy Bebop and Death Note, it's more than nice to see the streaming giant produce not just a decent, but an impressive adaptation.

One of the main ingredients for the project's success was the show's cast: with rare exceptions, the images turned out to be surprisingly accurate. Especially noteworthy are Iñaki Godoy, playing Luffy, and Jeff Ward, playing Buggy.

Godoy seems to have been born for the role of the future pirate king: it is almost impossible to imagine anyone else in the role, as the young actor managed to convey the endless optimism and passion for justice that Luffy is famous for.

But Ward's role as the clown pirate Buggy differs from the original source: in the Netflix version, he seems much more sinister and dangerous, which only works to the character's advantage.

And even though we have seen countless underdog stories like this one set on a playing field, we actually haven’t seen one quite like this in terms of the welcome spotlight it puts on the homeless population among us. “Coco Chanel: Unbuttoned” director Hannah Berryman has set her latest documentary, about Nasa’s first female spacecraft commander Eileen Collins.

The feature-length doc is based on Collins’ memoir, “Through the Glass Ceiling to the Stars,” which was co-written by Collins and Jonathan H. Ward.

According to the logline, it will focus on “the extraordinary achievements of Eileen Collins, the first woman to pilot and command a spacecraft, paving the way for the next generation of female space explorers.”

Black Sabbath founders Tony Iommi and Bill Ward each took to social media to give fans and followers an end-of-year update, and it turns out both are in the studio working on separate projects.

Iommi shared a short video on Facebook, recapping his 2023 and dropping some hints of what we can expect from the Sabbath guitarist in 2024.

While he didn’t offer any specifics, Iommi has been “working in the studio” and “writing and doing plenty of stuff,” presumably for his previously mentioned solo LP.

“It’s sounding really good,” he said. “I’m very happy with it. I might use some orchestration, I might not. So we’ll see how it goes.”

Iommi also shared an update on the long-awaited Tony Martin-era Black Sabbath box set, which Iommi teased in his year-end message last year. The collection is now expected to drop in a May after a period of delay.

Former New York Giants Super Bowl champion Derrick Ward was arrested for committing several robberies in Los Angeles.

Ward is accused of robbing multiple businesses, including a few gas stations. He allegedly used fear and force to take money but no gun was involved.

He was arrested on Monday evening and booked at the Valley Jail in Van Nuys, California, on a felony charge. Ward is currently in police custody and his bail is set at $250,000.

In 2004, he was the seventh-round pick by the New York Jets but was cut by them before he had a chance to play.

He formerly spent eight years playing in the NFL, including the Houston Texans, Giants and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The creator of acclaimed and best-selling comics Something Is Killing the Children and The Nice House on the Lake is teaming with Christian Ward, the writer-artist behind the current Batman miniseries Batman: City of Madness for Spectregraph, described as a ghost story steeped in the decay of a century of capitalism.

Aimee Lou Wood and David Morrissey have been tapped for the lead roles in new BBC Studios comedy “Daddy Issues.”

Wood is best known for her turns in “Sex Education” and “Living” (the latter opposite Bill Nighy) while Morrissey has starred in “The Walking Dead,” where he played The Governor, and James Graham’s series “Sherwood.”

The duo are now set to play daughter and father in “Daddy Issues,” which follows the story of hard-partying Gemma (Wood), who lives for the weekend when she gets down to let down her hair in Manchester. Update, with DGA statement: Elliot Silverstein, who directed Jane Fonda and, in an Oscar-winning performance, Lee Marvin in the 1965 comedy-Western Cat Ballou, died Nov. 24 in Los Angeles. He was 96.

His death was announced by family members.

Born August 3, 1927, in Boson, Silverstein launched his directing career during television’s 1950s on such programs as Omnibus and the Alfred Hitchcock-produced mystery series Suspicion, Silverstein stayed busy with episodic series throughout the 1960s. Among his credits from the era: Route 66, Have Gun – Will Travel, Naked City, Dr. Kildare, The Defenders and four episodes of The Twilight Zone, including the fan-favorite, Rod Serling-penned 1961 installment titled The Passersby, a mournful ghost story set at the end of the American Civil War.

With voting juiced by a decidedly partisan John Oliver, the puteketeke bird was crowned the “Bird of the Century” in New Zealand.

After it pulled in more than 290,000 votes, “puteketeke pandemonium prevails,” the conservation organization New Zealand Forest and Bird, announced, granting the title to the endangered water bird with a surviving population of just about about 3,000.

New Zealand’s national bird, the North Island brown kiwi, garnered just 12,904 votes, and the kea, a large, endangered parrot thought to be one of the most intelligent birds in the world, took third with 12,060 votes.

Oliver, meanwhile, took up a global campaign for the puteketeke, also known as the Australasian crested grebe, on his Nov. 12 show.

Zee-Sony Merger Back On Track

The merger of Zee Entertain Enterprises and Sony’s Indian arm looks to be back on track after an order banning Punit Goenka from managing the new entity was lifted yesterday. The merger of Zee and Culver Max Entertainment was given the go-ahead in August, but the merger has run into several problems. The India Securities and Exchange Board had barred Goenka and his father, Zee founder Subhash Chandra, from the boardrooms of listed companies for a year over allegations of insider trading. However, the Securities Appellate Tribunal has overturned that decision, paving the way for the $10B merger to go ahead and for Goenka to resume his role as MD and CEO of Zee. Sony and Zee have been planning the union for over two years now.

Stephen King once wrote that the "last reason for reading horror: it's a rehearsal for death. It's a way to get ready." I agree with that statement and believe it applies to watching horror, as well as reading it. Sure, there's something to be said about how watching people scream and die in terrible ways probably satisfies the morbid curiosity that resides in the more primordial parts of our brains. But King's quote serves as a more profound (and socially acceptable) explanation for our attraction to the stories about fictional characters shuffling off this mortal coil, and how they allow us to come into contact with the great beyond.

From a safe distance, that is.

However, for an unlucky number of actors and film crew members, death got a little too close during the making of several horror movies, whether it was freak accidents, production team negligence, or tyrannical directors pushing their crew to extremes.

Clarissa Ward was about to begin a top-of-the-hour CNN live shot in Sderot, Israel, when a Red Alert siren started to blare. The alert is “telling us to find shelter,” Ward said, as her crew hurried toward a bomb shelter. They didn’t make it in time. As Hamas rockets whizzed overhead and Israel’s Iron Dome intercepted some, creating explosions in the sky, Ward and her colleagues ducked in a ditch. The pulse-pounding scene showed that, as Ward said on air, “even with the most sophisticated military technology, the Israelis are still up against a really tough fight.”

Adventure Time showrunner Adam Muto revealed that Cartoon Network was initially hesitant about one major change that took place during the original series. 

Muto took over for the original creator of the hit animated series Pendleton Ward who left the title during Season 5, citing the show was affecting his "quality of life" (via Rolling Stone).

Since Ward's departure, Muto went on to lead the show to 10 total seasons and two spin-off series on Max.

Kate Ward joined BBC Studios, the corporation’s commercial arm, last year to oversee its factual portfolio. Ward moved over from Vice Studios, where she was global president, and has jumped into the challenge of stewarding one of the world’s most powerful factual brands, which includes 66-year-old leader in the space the BBC’s Natural History Unit (Nhu).

Ahead of Ward’s trip to Mipcom, she sat down with Variety to discuss the changes she’s implemented over the past year and what she’s looking forward to spotlighting in Cannes.

How would you describe your remit as head of BBC Studios’ factual portfolio?

I’m in the really, really lucky position that BBC Studios Factual is one of the pillars of our production business. We are working across an incredible range from natural history, specialist factual, docs, popular factual and formats, so we’re really reaching across the whole of that factual genre.
