Ripped To Shreds is a period-authentic graphic novel adaptation of Michael Johnson’s “lost slasher” screenplay from 1980. Originally scheduled to begin filming in Dec. 1980, Ripped To Shreds went through years of development hell before funding ultimately fell through and production collapsed.
Now, nearly 45 years later, the long-lost script is getting a faithful adaption in graphic novel form. At long last, fans of 80s horror can, in some way, see what might have been.
About the adaptation:
Adaptation director Scott Alan Gregory, artist Thiago Motta, and colorist Karla Aguilar have taken period-accuracy seriously. The overall experience is painstakingly designed to mimic the feeling of watching an actual 80s slasher film. Wardrobes, props, settings, camera angles, and even the filmic color palettes of the 80s have been faithfully recreated for the book.
Friday the 13th connection:
Russell Todd and Lauren-Marie Taylor from “Friday the 13th Part 2” reunite… in comic book form!

As far as I’m concerned, director Jim Wynorski’s 1986 film Chopping Mall (watch it Here) ranks up there as one of the most entertaining horror movies of the ’80s, which is the decade that brought a lot of my favorite horror movies into the world. It’s also a movie that doesn’t seem to get referenced often enough, and doesn’t get as much respect as it deserves – even if James Wan wants to remake it and Shout Factory TV aired it for 24 hours straight on Black Friday. So I’m glad to see that Chopping Mall is getting some love from the folks at Encyclopocalypse Publications, who have announced that they’re teaming up with Shout Factory and author Brian G. Berry for a Chopping Mall novelization!
Written by Wynorski and Steve Mitchell, Chopping Mall has the following synopsis: Some people will kill for a bargain… and...

We told you earlier this year about Stiletto, an upcoming horror movie from director Samuel Gonzalez Jr. (The Retaliators) that’s being described as a throwback to the early slashers of the 1980s. We now have an exclusive first look at the film’s villain, “The Stiletto Killer.”
The killer’s mask was created by Jason Baker, famous for designing the mask that Ethan Hawke wore in The Black Phone, and owner of Callosum FX Studios, which is the creative brainchild of legendary special effects master Tom Savini and renowned artist and effects creator Jason Baker himself.
Baker tells Bloody Disgusting in a statement, “Creating the killer’s mask for Samuel Gonzalez Jr. & Gigi Gustin on Stiletto was an absolute blast. I personally drew so much inspiration from the script. The film is a morbidly beautiful mixture of beauty and carnage. And that was the mindset we used in the design.

We told you earlier this week about Stiletto, an upcoming horror movie from director Samuel Gonzalez Jr. (The Retaliators) that’s being described as a throwback to the early slashers of the 1980s. Bloody Disgusting has now exclusively learned that makeup effects legend Tom Savini and his creative partner Jason Baker designed the killer’s mask for the film!
The duo most recently designed the mask for Ethan Hawke’s sinister “The Grabber” in box office hit The Black Phone, which is getting a sequel from Blumhouse in Summer 2025.
Baker tells Bloody Disgusting in a statement, “Creating the killer’s mask for Samuel Gonzalez Jr. & Gigi Gustin on Stiletto was an absolute blast. The 1980s were full of robots, lasers, odd fashion choices, and teen films, including the now cult film Chopping Mall (watch it Here). In this 1986 sci-fi film, a group of teenage friends and mall workers end up stuck in the Mall after closing hours when a trio of security robots are deployed for the first time.
In the 80s, anything futuristic or with robots seemed to get greenlit with budgets of varying levels and quality of varying degrees. Some of these films took themselves very seriously, too seriously even. However, Chopping Mall was one of those films with the perfect mixture of low budget, the right talent in front of and behind the cameras, and the right level of seriousness to its content and how it was approached. The film doesn’t take itself too seriously, but it doesn’t go full-on goofy, either. There is a “just right” aspect...

As most diehard fans know, the original Friday the 13th was filmed at Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco, an active Boy Scouts camp in Hardwick, New Jersey. Unfortunately, the campgrounds are off limits to the public, meaning you can’t actually visit the filming locations outside of rare special events that the camp offers. And that’s where Crystal Lake Tours comes into play.
For the last few years, Friday the 13th fans have been offered the opportunity to tour the real-life Crystal Lake, and a special event this June will take that experience to the next level.
The team announces, “We made history in 2019 with the largest gathering of cast and crew from Friday the 13th since the movie was released. It was an amazing event and the fans that travelled to the camp from all over the world still rave about it. We had plans for an even larger reunion in...

Shopping costs an arm and a leg – literally – in Jim Wynorski‘s Chopping Mall, a cult classic horror movie from 1986 that horror master James Wan happens to be a big fan of.
Speaking with Slash Film this week, Wan expressed interest in someday putting his own stamp on Chopping Mall, set in a shopping mall (naturally) and centered on killer robots.
Wan tells the outlet, “I have many horror films that I think are just fun that I love, and I’m pretty sure the horror community shares them with me. I love movies like ‘Chopping Mall.’ I love ‘Night of the Creeps.’ These, to me, are just sort of fun horror films that I would love to be able to dive into one day, or do them but with the way that I make my films.”

While talking with writer/director Steve Mitchell about King Cohen: The Wild World of Filmmaker Larry Cohen, his new feature-length documentary that celebrates and explores the decades-spanning career of maverick storyteller Larry Cohen, I had the opportunity to chat about a cult classic that he was involved with over 30 years ago: Jim Wynorski’s Chopping Mall, starring Kelli Maroney, Barbara Crampton, Tony O’Dell, and Russell Todd, who square off against a squad of killer robots inside a shopping mall after hours.
Mitchell wrote the script for Chopping Mall with Wynorski, and the duo collaborated on the film from beginning to end, with Roger Corman’s Concorde-New Horizons handling distribution of the indie horror movie in March of 1986. During our interview, Mitchell discussed his collaborative process with Wynorski, how his experiences on the original Transformers series tied into Chopping Mall, and how surprising it is to him that the film...

Cory Monteith (right) in Killer Bash Did you honestly think I was going to do a post of this type without being an equal opportunity blog? It's just so unfair to limit a post of this type to the male audience. Hence, why I am doing a second post for the female and gay audience members out there. Big Daddy Horror Reviews has always been about diversity in its apporach to horror journalism and that isn't about to change. So, it is starting to become more acceptable these days for the guys to get in on the nudity these days and I have to say "it's about time!". Still, we've had plenty of actors who have worked in the field that haven't given up the goods. Riley Smith, who has a legion of fans due to his running about in his boxer briefs in Voodoo Academy, didn't give up all the goods.

The beach movie has come a long way from the days of Frankie & Annette, Gidget and The Ghost in the Invisible Bikini.
On second thought, maybe it hasn't changed at all. They've always been about the same things: babes, beefcake, and trying to get laid without getting sand in your nether regions.

The beach films of recent times don't have to hint at anything, and can be as blatantly sexual and nuded up as they want. And they don't have to tiptoe around the "love that dare not speak its name" either, although if you read between the lines of those 60's films, we were always there,...
